Fun fact, during Kamen Rider Gaim's final live stage show. A lot of the actors cried, special shoutout to Kouta's actor breaking down during his last singing of "raise your flag" for how much he loved playing a rider and being seen as one.

While I do see parallels to Ryuki, Ryuki focuses on the personal desires and what one does when given the opportunity to get it while Gaim is what people do in the face of apocalypse, all characters have different ideas and means of reaching salvation and we see what happens to them as they gain power to achieve their ends.
I think Gaim was so well done cause it had a lot of different ideas in it and most of it was very well refined. The story was planned from the start and the actors passion themselves really helped pushed it up
Gaim is the reason I got into Rider and toku in general. I started watching it as it aired and I was hooked. I had known about Rider before in a general sense, but "the Madoka writer is doing Rider" was enough to get me watching. It's easily a top 3 Rider for me, even after having seen ~20 Rider shows since.
I got into Kamen Rider around the tail end of Decade/early W and I haven't watched Madoka but Gaim is still easily one of my favorites. I only a year or so ago watched Fate/Zero after getting into the Fate franchise too and it was really good too.
I heard about Kamen Rider through Dragon Knight and finding an upload of Kamen Rider SD. This was the first proper season I followed, initially only caring about the Rider fights. As it went on I became more invested in the plot and characters, while it's not my absolute favorite it's at the very least top 10.
@@HordikaNate3821 Dragon Knight has some great civilian fights apparently, even won an Emmy for the choreography in one where Len fought Albert and Danny and even stole their Advent Decks when they were about to transform lol.
@@mattwo7 That one scene and the other fight scene of Kit against Axe, Spear and JTC in a warehouse are some of the best action scenes in the franchise. DK also gave us Xaviax who's one of my personal favorite Rider villains

Gaim is my personal favorite Rider show. Almost every major character gets an arc of some kind and is given a meaningful ending. Planning your show out rather than completely winging it, what a concept! Gaim also benefits from the immense talent of all the cast, crew, and music contributors. Gaku Sano, Mahiro Takasuhi, Yuki Kubota, Minami Tsukui, and all the rest of the cast turned in great performances which really help to sell the characters and make the drama believable. Gaim’s original suits are all spectacular, and some of the kitbashes are good too! And the soundtrack… man, other than Ghost and maybe Ex-Aid I don’t think there’s been as strong of an OST for a series as Gaim. Considering how good KR ost’s are, that’s no small compliment! Not to mention how catchy and energetic the insert songs are. Simply put, Gaim’s soundtrack truly rocks.
Kamen Rider Gaim has everything I love in Kamen Rider in one package. Whacky hijinks and bold aesthetics blended with mature themes and good storytelling. Exciting action paired with questionable CGI and a rocking soundtrack. And of course, a hero who proudly lives up to the Kamen Rider legacy and fights for good, no matter how much self sacrifice they must endure. Until another show rises to the challenge, Gaim will stand as my favorite KR season.

I recently got a friend into Kamen Rider, had to find a series that would fit his dark and slightly edgy sensibility. Did I pick 555, Decade, Kiva?
No, I picked Gaim. Because I knew it would give him the drama and atmosphere he was looking for while also preparing him for just how BATSHIT this franchise is most of the time. Now he's hooked.
I think that makes my "score" of spreading the addiction...8 or 9.
I mean while the older Heisei(and maybe even stuff like shin or Amazons) may look more appealing *visually* to a newer viewer, from my personal experience the you can cast a bigger net with Heisei phase 2 shows

Takatora is my favorite not only in Zangetsu’s design but his relationship to Micchy, and I love how he’s taunting his brother when he’s presumed dead. Showing that Micchy can’t escape the ties of his family and how Takatora will always overshadow him.

I really wish Kaito had Ringo for one of his forms for the story's sake, or at least get Ringo Energy instead of having a handed over Lemon Energy.
And that's why Toei did a huge mistake by not giving Kaito a power-up, in the series. It went against the main narrative of the season, which was the clash of ideals between Kouta, Kaito & Mitsuzane.
Kaito motivation already high while Kouta motivation is low, that's why Kouta get the most support form DJ Sagara.
Better if it was Apple Energy Arms...

Weird for me that Gaim was the season that got me to appreciate Zexal when the 2 shows were airing the same year(s).
Why? They're not very much alike aside from the tone shift partway through and Yugioh GX did that well before Gaim and Zexal.
Honestly I don't like Zexal nearly as much as I do GX, Arc-V, Sevens (which didn't really get a tone shift) and Go Rush (which I also don't expect to get a tone shift) too.
@@mattwo7 Because I see Kouta and Kaito almost parallel to Yuma and Shark in characterization. Gaim and Utopia wields swords whereas Baron and Black Ray Lancer wields a spear. Plus Baron and Barian almost sounded similar in japanese pronunciation.

The Showa Rider's motivation always felt weird to me. But there was another translation I saw where they were made at the Heisei Riders because the Heisei Riders keep reviving the dead, and that was tearing apart the boundaries between life and death. It makes way more sense to me and I'm confused how the two radically different translations came about.
I think villain is the more proper description for this. The way they acted towards the Heisei Riders was nothing short of the same monsters they fought and were completely against the ideals they once stood for. All because Shinichiro Shirakura hasn't the singlest idea of the concept of heroism or what Kamen Rider stands for. It's pathetic when you think about it.
Speaking as an Aussie about how shafted Rider gets in the US by Toei - it's even worse here in Oceania (Aus, NZ, Polynesia) & UK/EU as if we want to watch the few legal subs of the show, we have to import DVD's/BD's from the US (usually Shout!Factory via Amazon) and deal with region lockout BS (thankfully programs like VLC ignore region encoding of DVD/BD, but those of us that use a games console like PS4, PS5, XB1 or XS for our media; we have to rip the discs to .mp4 files on a USB stick in order to watch the media we legally purchased), or use a VPN to watch the streaming options (again; Shout!Factory), and same goes for wanting legit Sentai.
If people think the US is a "tiny" market for Rider, then the rest of the Commonwealth Nations aside from Canada (who is covered by Shout!Factory) is stiff outta luck with our even smaller individual populations proportionally to the US (especially Australia - roughly the same amount of landmass as the Lower 48 of the US, but not even 1/6th the population due to how relatively little inhabitable-to-Western-sense land we have that isn't already taken up by agriculture or other industries).
I think Gaim has Armored Rider instead of Kamen Rider is because the riders aren't really disguised so everyone knows who's behind the suits, also pair that with the idea that it's modern day warring nations depiction. Prior riders are a bit more obscured from the public so they're more "masked."
I can't remember when was the last the protag rider would actively hide his identity from the public. Was it Agito?

I forget if it was Kuuga or Agito (probably Agito) but in one of those, the term "Kamen Rider" wasn't actually used and as mentioned in the video, the riders in Hibiki were called Oni.
I wasn't saying all, but most others. Someone is called a masked vigilante, hero, or rider, because no one knows who they are yet or no one has publicly revealed the identity behind the mask. Most of the Armored Riders were publicly revealed and made their allegiances known. Gaim is Kouta, Baron is Kaito and the populus knows this. The public doesn't know who's behind the masks of Kuuga, Agito, Ryuki, Faiz, Blade, Kabuto, Den-O, Kiva, W, OOO, Fourze, or Wizard. Some of them may be loose with their identity, but no media is brought to them to be a social icon in their respective stories. Kuuga got a lot of attention, but Yusuke never was caught by cameras while transforming, only when he was in his rider form.

Gaim was my introduction into Kamen rider, i heard about how good it was from The Super best friends talking about it and it peaked my interest and I'm so glad i did. I didn't watch it as it was airing, i was watching it when Ghost was airing. After i finished Gaim, i was hooked and my fate was sealed.
What did you like about the other Rider shows?
The rivaling philosophy of Kouta and Kaito was probably one of my personal biggest draw to Gaim and also the biggest irony in them.
Kaito embraces a "only the strong survive" idea while Kouta wears the "everyone is worth saving and has value" idea.
YET THEY'RE BOTH MASSIVE HYPOCRITS IN THEIR OWN RIGHT.
Kaito, despite believing in strength was responsible for brining the beat riders together and works to lift them up (examples being how he told Mai to dance because that's her strength and how he gave Zack a driver) while Kouta despite being "power of friendship" rarely rallied together people and even seem to actively focus on becoming strong himself rather than help others become stronger, leaving it to them to figure it out themselves.
The start of "Kouta risking it all for friends" and "Kaito the ruling solo" takes such a turn when they both actively suck at pursing what they want to do.
And we see this repeatedly, Kaito fights amazing with others, Kouta works extremely well solo and this dycodemy of their actual skills and desires is what I think made the show so good.
Gaim is one of my favorite seasons, and I basically knew it would be even before watching it as I learned more about it while running through earlier Rider seasons. It's one of the only seasons I skipped ahead to watch out of order, and adored almost every second of…save maybe the random Kikaider intrusion. Gaim, I feel, is what Classic Heisei seasons should have been like; in my book, they tried, but Gaim succeeded. In addition to the suits and music and story and pacing, one of the things I like the most is that, while there are many, many enemies and opponents throughout the story, there are very few actual villains (ignoring those of one-off side material that needed a quick resolution), allowing those with incongruent ideas in the short-term to put that aside and work together for the long-term to stop the true threats at play. It's almost like some people in the world recently who I won't name need to understand that concept a bit better. Also, hot take, but Toki no Hana is one of my favorites among the soundtrack (well, they're basically all my favorites, but still).
15:30 As part of a trend that started with W's two-at-a-time toy gimmicks in base and Fang forms, the unlocked but closed form of the lockseeds form a 6, the lock part of the name, "rokku" even being a play on "roku"
To answer your question about Durians Marco's , yes they are good. If you can get past the smell and the spiky skin, you will a almost creamy, milky sweet inside

Having discovered Ryuki back in 2004 and getting into Rider as a whole. Gaim is certainly my favourite for sure. My Driver sits on my desk and is never going to move unless I plan to play with it.
I would consider lord baron the final form of Kaito as a character. Not as a rider.

Oof... Yea boy did that show fall off... Which in more recent years has started to become a weird trend in later episodes... Like the shows should've ended sooner but needed to fill more episodes... Least with Revice it only lasted a couple of episodes so it didn't do too much damage.
It’s a shame too, the supernatural theme is really cool, all of the fangire rider suits are pact full of details. The story was ‘meh’ at best.

Which I suppose is fitting considering Tsukiyomi absolutely ripped off Kiva-la's stabbing of Decade with her finishing off Another Decade.
I doubt it's a rip-off when it can be considered a twist/homage.
Since Natsumi at least got the kill on her Decade target, where as Tsukuyomi did it to try and kill/weaken Swartz as Another Decade only to get killed herself.

It was _explicitly_ Tommy as Black Dino Ranger yet it was a different actor doing the voice over because Disney are stingy aholes who refused to pay for JDF's flight to NZ so any lines that weren't recycled were dubbed by Trent's actor, Jeffrey Parazzo instead.

Gaim is very strange to me I do think its a fantastic show, but its just some of the forced movie tie ins shouldve been used for character moments instead. Like mai seemed so out of place for most of the series and it just felt like her being tacked on, when she just didnt belong there. I feel like if they developed kouta's and kaito's rivalry as sortve a tragic friendship, the ending wouldve hit a lot harder. Cause one main thought kept enetering my mind after I finished the series, was that the entire half of the second series was caused by micchy being a total simp. So that just put such a sour mood on it to me. Gaim just either needed to be a tale on how power is attained and the sacrifices you will have to make along that road, or it shouldve been a love triangle story with, Kouta's willingness to save everyone not both. Also I can not hear Kouta's and Kaito's final battle without hearing MGR it has to be this way anymore.

I think the Heisei vs Showa final fight in the movie’s finale would’ve been better if the showa riders actually decided to have the final fight be a fun match between the two eras, and have their ideals of Heisei being too soft be a trick to fool the villains all along

Oh I'd absolutely LOVE that idea. I can see it being the Showa Riders' way of celebrating their victory with the Heisei Riders', as well as giving them their blessings.
That'd be a LOT better than the stupid grudge match in the movie proper lol 😂
I'd really love to see the Showa Riders showing interest in the Heisei Riders' weapon systems as they fight and getting to try them out, kinda like kids sharing their toys with each other.
Both sides would fight with a big smile beneath their helmets, having fun with each other. In the last minutes, Gaim vs Ichigo would end in a draw and both of them LAUGHED heartily, followed by the other Riders.
And THAT is how you properly end the movie with the Riders gazing upon the sunset.
Unfortunately I do use these HOKR to replace certain Seasons that I've decided not to watch. Reading and or listening about Seasons that I don't want to watch is far more enjoyable than sitting through them. So far there's only two seasons I don't intend to finish, so I watched the HOKR of both of them after dropping the seasons.

So glad to see this one finished. A friend and I just finished Gaim about a month ago and I have to say it was by far one of the better series that I have seen. My jaw was on the floor for some of the later reveals of the series even with the knowledge of Fruit Samurai Space Jesus.
Without a doubt, this is my favorite season I’ve seen so far. The fruit theme is refreshing (pun intended).
By far my most favorite History of Kamen Rider video of your, it reminded that Gaim used to be my favorite Kamen Rider series before Ex-Aid and Build

9 times out of 10, I do agree. Lack of planning is something that can kill seasons like Ghost and, as much as I like it, Zi-O.
However, I think Build is an interesting outlier. It was being written as it aired, and yet despite that, it had a successful running mystery plot and easily took its place as one of the best Rider seasons.

There are always outliers, but that's few in between. Statistically, I would rather want a properly planned show over the usual "winging it" that most Kamen Rider series take.
And though I love Build, let's be honest, if it did get better planning, maybe we wouldn't have had basically multiple arcs with similar premises. There is a bit of retreading of past story beats.
@@ArcDragoon Sure, I'll admit there is a bit, but I think under the circumstances, it's hard to deny that achieving a cohesive narrative with so many parts ((all Build side content is canon)) is impressive.
But yes, it is just an outlier. Though my personal writing style tends towards winging it as well, I acknowledge that objectively, planning it ahead of time more often leads to a quality product.
I sort of miss the robo voice when bringing up the Gaiden of Bravo-Gurridon and I'm surprised that you didn't reach out in translation community to give you a PDF of what the novels contained
that all said you and Liz did a amazing job to complete what is honestly a dense narrative with side content that either adds to its lore or just a fun bit to enjoy. so depending on when you read this I say take your time with the next review video, tell Liz that I enjoy the comments she included and both of you have a nice safe month *hug*

This was the first Japanese season of Rider I followed, at first I only cared about the Riders and fight scenes. After a while my focus shifted to the story and characters, as well the action. I'll never forget how unnerved I was watching Harce mutate into an Inves, how hyped Kachidoki and Kiwami form's debut made me, even if back then I couldn't find every new episode since I wasn't the smartest kid, Gaim isn't in my top 5 it'll always have a special place in my heart. Hard to believe Gaim is almost 10 years old

I love Kamen Rider Gaim from the Beat Riders to the hilarious Fruit Arms and Lockseeds all the way to the Sengoku themes but most of all I love the titular Kamen Rider Gaim himself being equal parts a true hero and absolute goofball.
Gaim is definitely in my top five Kamen Rider seasons.
So i recently finished Gaim and watched this video after. I gotta say, it was so beautiful that it made me feel a lot of things. I've only ever watched Ex-Aid and W till the end and that was long ago so coming back to it with Gaim was truly a journey.
I loved every single character and that included Mitchy for being an absolute bastard. Kouta's sacrifice and Kaito's dream were something that really hit me. Bravo's and Gridon's dynamic is something I never expected to love seeing. Gaim is truly a masterpiece
Ok first off I value Marcos opinions and insight on rider seasons not to mention he does so much research I’ve watched through gaim about 5 times and he still manages to point things out that I either didn’t notice or never knew. As for my favorite rider in this season I have to agree that zack is my favorite he turns into the big brother character after kaito passes the torch in a way. Seeing that growth is what makes kamen rider worth watching
Kinda funny hearing about everyone's first kamen rider, my first was dragon knight. Then first legit version I saw was build, one of these days imma watch Ryuki
Same, Dragon Knight might have been really cringe but it did an amazing job introducing many in Canada and North America to Kamen Rider. I am glad 4kids made it and tried to push it like Saban pushed Power Rangers.

Gaim opens with a dance off and ends with a city block long missing persons wall. 10/10
26:44 given the colors of the uniform, the theory I've seen quite a few propose is that Oren served in the French Foreign Legion to earn French citizenship, since a great number of traineeships and schools for chefs, patisierrs and other culinary arts are open only to French citizens. Though the beret is the wrong colour for that (the Foreign Legion wear green berets). I still like the theory, because as flamboyant and ridiculous as he is, its hard to deny that Oren is a complete badass.
And for the record, Durian is absolutely delicious, IF you can get past the smell. The smell is so potent and thick that someone cutting one open caused a university building here in Melbourne to be evacuated a few years ago, because people were terrified there was a gas leak.

I don't know if everyone know this but Gaim looks actually based on a real samurai Masamune Date. also his form based on japan old feudal lord rank, from basic samurai, jimber is daimyo, kachidoki is shogun, kiwami is well dai-shogun or emperor

Easy in my top 5 favorite Kamen Rider series, the designs are gorgeous and awesome. Great story, good acting.

You bring up the black and black rx similarities but something that I’ve noticed is but kouta’s actor feels just as passionate as tetsuo kurata. Something about his movements, actions, his own stunts, and how powerful his presence is on screen was really obvious to me. You really feel tetsuo’s emotions and intensity in everything he does, and the same with Sano’s. I fell in love with kouta because I fell in love with Kotaro.
Jin did very good job on the final episode! I really enjoyed how most of it was the final battle with a re-born Mars.
I’m in my 50’s , and I love Kamen Rider also , Zi-O is my favorite , but I love them all. Not a big fan of the Showa era , but everything after that , I can’t stop watching.

After Decade I never watched any of the Neo Riders until I stumbled on Gaim. It's by the far the most story driven and coolest concept riders I've seen in a while. I was thrown of by the fruit motif but it grew on me the moment the rider suit was shown. Definitely very fun to watch and the ending is more than satisfactory. Didn't feel the same when I watch other Neo Riders until Build. Got the same vibe as Gaim. This is few of the nicest Riser shows I watched.
you know how i found kamen rider was thanks to mask rider dragon knight, which made me remember masked rider. On top of that I'm a huge gackt fan so when i saw his decade music i had to go look up decade which is how I'm now a avid kamen rider watcher.
When it comes to kamen rider gaim is my standard if kamen rider show cant be near the level gaim i kinda just wave it off. Plus it made me love the weird theme seasons more.

Ah yes, the one that started it all for me. Discovering this show through a freakin toy review channel of all places just out of nowhere so many years ago has gotta be the best accident to ever happen to me. I’ve gotten to see shows that I never would’ve seen before, become attached to characters that just feel like real people like shinosuke, fuwa, banjou, emu, yuuto, kazumin, chaser, kota, heck even my main man Dan Kuroto XD like many relationships, it has its ups and downs, but honestly I know I’ll always love Kamen Rider no matter what. From sentient hot wheels, trains, bottles, video games, magic ring-pops, usbs and everything in between, I’m here for it. Bring on the funny grasshopper bikers
