Seriously thinking of buying this thing now that it's gotten the promised dts:X update.
I picked this thing up at best buy for 700 on a open box special. Built a custom box with the back open for the subwoofer to slide into. Filled my port with stuffing to dampin air an low frequency. Amplified the bass output 10 fold. Missed out on the Atmos due to PS4 pro not supporting it. Movies are great though.
I’ve been offered this for £750. Would you say it was worth the additional £250 over the ZF9?

when i push the display button on the remote to this soundbar, I get 'dolby digital plus' as the source whether I'm watching directv or netflix film that has atmos audio output. also, when i play a 4k UHD disc on my Sony player I get a 'LPM 7.1' instead of a DOLBY ATMOS on the display. basically ive never seen the words dolby atmos show on the display on my soundbar. anyone have any tips or know what to do here? especially if its a simple setting. thank you.

Looks amazing I want to get into the Dolby Atmosphere Soundbars to go with my 4K TV as lots of Films and Games using Dolby Atmos now but they are so expense for these sounds bars. Shame they cost as much as 4K TV at mo. I suppose the sound is amazing.

You also didnt tell them to make sure ur player has BD Audio Mix off and Atmos only works in 3D Surround mode. Also ur center tweeter is off by default until u hit voice up or. Remember that will give you the better vocals
+Darkcloud1983 I tried that. I couldn't get the vocals to sound how I wanted no matter what I did. Not saying it's bad, just was a little light in that area.

Nice review, but i didn't regret buying my Samsung HW-K950. I really doubt that you can have an Atmos experience without true surround and 4 upward firing speakers. Having only 2 speakers in the front might give you a bit of "height" but the Samsung is much better deal.
For the price of this Sony you can get the new HW-K950 as well, which is a 7.1.4 system and that beats the Sony to death. :)
But that Samsung one has no compatibility for 4k 'HDR' right?
@@laatinable the K950 does support 4K and HDR as far as i know. The only missing "new feature" is DTS:X. But the newer K950 has everything and cost almost as much as the Sony.

I have the st5000 for about 2 months now and haven't got a chance to test it deeply, but so far I'm impressed. I like the fact you have multiple sound stages like Music, Movies, 3D surround, Game etc., and you can switch between them as you please, but I wish you could set one by default to a specific input. I see myself using the remote too often. In general I like how it sounds, playing The Witcher 3 in ‘3D Surround’ mode makes the world come alive (wind on the trees, rain, storms etc). The dialogue sound is deep and sitting almost 4 meters away from the TV, the voices feel close to me.
Regarding Atmos or surround sound quality, haven’t tested anything other than demos on youtube and some movie trailers. Those demos sound amazing btw, the sound bar delivers a powerful sound on the front/front-height space! One thing that annoys me is the loss of connection from the subwoofer to the main bar. Next to the router was awful, disconnecting all the time for seconds, but now 2 meters away from it, the subwoofer disconnects occasionally around one second or less (I can live with that). I have a LG C7 and they go along well. No issues so far.
I found your reviews very objective, and that's why I found your videos trustful. Thanks for that. :) I am trying the decide on my home theater upgrade. Would you recommend st5000 or lg sk9y with rears in terms of immersion and real surround and atmos effect? I know u didn't have chance to try rears for sk9y, but anyway I think rears will add up to the real surround effect.(I was thinking about getin sony ht-z9f but after watching your review I gave up on that) And my 2nd question is, for these prices do you suggest any avr and speaker setup for a better and more realistic surround sound. How does this compare to the Samsung 850 and 950 atmos soundbars? this ones a bit out of my budget
+Hamza more detail in the highs on the Sony. And the soundstage spreads all the way to back at times. It's a cool effect without having rears. I haven't gotten that sensation with the Samsung.
sony is always overpriced and rarely worth it. speaking from experience here.

Did you buy a receiver to use the soundbar? Do you recommend when buying a soundbar to get a receiver also? I am new to sound tech stuff. I just bought an SK8Y was wondering if i needed a receiver to get DTS and atmos . I am not sure if having a receiver codes things much more differently.

I have this system and proud to say DTS X is supported now it's a really good bar I'd recommend picking it up now probably cheaper now do it it's good nice build quality sounds amazing only thing I have an issue with is the two back or hight channels they don't really work as well maybe it's my configuration or something but what can you expect with it trying g to bounce sound of your ceiling.

Im curious to know if you can link up multiple subs to the htst5000 like u can on the htst7? If u guys havent tried this, I recommend u guys do so. No loss in signal or output performance.

What volume level should I keep the sub at while watching movies? I like watching movie very loud, I usually have the volume at 34 but I notices the sub weakens at the volume…not to sure?

I currently have the SJ9 it's going back in the shop again for the second time in two years. This time it is out of warranty for the same work that was completed previously. Now I'm looking into other options.
Is this worth buying in 2021? Pretty sure they have updated to earc? Just sold my Samsung q950t since i moved in to a small apartment and don't have space for the rear speakers, would this be almost as good as the Samsung? Oh and yeah I sold the Samsung for 1000 euros and can get the Sony for 900

Thanks for the video. One question that bugs me because iam thinking of buying this system and that is does the unit decode Dts-hd ma ? .I can not seem to get an answer to that question. The Sony Unit I am told by a Rep does because it has its own amplifier built in that does decode all dts sound. I need to be convinced. Can you check this out for me . Much appreciated. Have a lot of Blueray DTS HD discs they are still good. Thanks.
+bamlin52 It will play it back as PCM. But no DTS format is supported natively. I put up the list of formats that are supported in the video if you want to pause it.
SpareChange Yes you are right it doesn't do shame. Maybe in a later update. In the UK it costs £1500. a lot of money. It's got a 5 star award here. Apparently beating every Soundbar out there even the Yamaha ysp 5600. Are you impressed with it. Do you recommend it.?Thank you.

Great video as always, brother. So, I'm finally going to buy a Dolby Atmos soundbar. I'm torn between two. The HT-ST5000 and the QW90R. I want to be able to hear sounds all around me. My living room is small. 9 ft height by 12 ft length and 12 ft width. Would the difference between the two be that much of a difference. I would love to be able to be immersed into movies like A Quiet Place and The Matrix greatly.
New bars are coming in a few weeks. Maybe hold off.

Would the atmos work with cathedral type ceilings? I would need to place it on a fireplace mantle and our ceilings are about 18 feet tall at the highest point. Thx

12ft is the ideal height. Your gonna just miss it.

+stealth800 I think the distance from the ceiling back to the listening position will be the issue. This is all per Dolby recommendations. Some of the reflected sound may get lost before it reaches your ears. Doesn't hurt to try. You can always return.

Sounds awesome in my condo living room. When I say wrapped in sound, big sound... On volume 20 it’s to much. Make sure you set the height and distance right!
Sorry for the late comment. But I just wanted to know. What setting should I choose on my PS4 for this soundbar. LPCM, or bitstream? Also would you recommend the 3D surround or Movie setting for itunes movies, Netflix and games? Or just stick with clearaudio+?

Yes you do need Atmos content encoded with height channel information.
SpareChange I believe Netflix has this content but even TH-cam does, but still nothing. They supplied an optional cable but also have hdmi at my disposal. Is there a particular hdmi port or cable I need to use? Only the front speakers are working, but when I do the setup you can hear them. Thanks :)

My settings are slightly different to yours. Sound field does nothing except 3d surround. Video direct blank, cannot change, IR repeater blank, cannot change, hdmi signal format, blank, cannot change. Any suggestions people?
Just purchased the 5000 and so far love it. I am having an issue with getting the Atmos behind me. I hear it just in front of me with the Dolby demo. It's the one with the light flashes that circle around you on the LG C7 set. With my LG SJ9 sound bar I can hear the Atmos very distinctly behind me. What settings would you recommend to get the audio to wrap around me? I've adjusted the room height and sitting distance but no luck.

Dolby atmos is not supposed to pitch de sound behind you .
The volume display on the sound bar is not the same display on my Sony television. Exp if my sound bar is at 20 volume tv shows 40 volume. There’s no sounds coming out of the tv speaker but I do believe it’s affecting the sound with my subwoofer. Anyone else having this issue?
No mid-rang scares me. Did it sound like it had a center channel?
+Brent Arnold there's definitely a center channel. Just voices lacked weight. You had to turn up the sub all the way to get some mid range happening. But then everything else got to boomy.
Try setting Voice to UP-1 or UP-2

JBL soundbar 5.1 is lot more cheaper and sound better with stronger Bass

I have a question about this chromecast built in a soundbar. When you open a music video on TH-cam using your Phone/tablet and stream it via chromecast directly to your soundbar, will you be able the hear the SOUND of that video on your soundbar WITHOUT using a tv (or the tv is just turned off) or do you really need to open up the tv if you want sound ?? I use TH-cam daily so i really hope that i can listen to a song on youtube without using a tv, just the soundbar only. Can someone pls check it for mw :) ps: will there also come sound out the soundbar when using netflix while the tv is closed ?

@@markcapel82 No there isn't an option from Sony for rear speakers. I had seen another person have some success with the Insignia Rear Wireless speaker kit from Best Buy, but I think they had to use an optical cable in conjunction with the HDMI (I believe they used an older model Roku player that had both optical/hdmi out for sound)

+vGREENARROWv I was using an Xbox one a in the video. You can hear sounds coming from the Atmos speakers if your next to it. Plus it's pretty clear sounds are up top. It only showed audio information on the display if it wasn't playing Atmos 🤔

Dolby Atmos this Dolby Atmos that, I think people should be made aware if you buy any kind of Dolby Atmos soundbar or AV/receiver to use through streaming you need to get yourself at least £1,000 TV (lg OLED 2017+ or other brand oled makers 2018 or newer) the only other option to receive Dolby Atmos would be through a Blu-ray player! and I don't think most people want to start buying discs!

Hey Mr SpareChange....you mentioned in your review voices did not have a lot of midrange. In a standard 5.1 surround setup they always say the center (where all the dialog/voices come from) is the most important speaker. So with that in mind, do you think I'd be disappointed in this system? The only think holding me back was waiting for confirmation of the addition of dts:X which has happened.
