- I get asked every week "What's the deal with amateur radio and the RV lifestyle?" Our viewers know we enjoy talking HAM radio while we RV and chatting from our home base. So let's go over the details and head out to the annual "Hamvention", one of the largest amateur radio conventions in the world...

By background, we're journalists Mike and Jennifer Wendland and this channel is all about freedom and fun through RV travel! We travel North America in our RV doing travel videos, how-tos, RV walk-through tours and video tips about how to get the most out of the RV Lifestyle.
Thanks for joining in and being a part of our RV Lifestyle!
Great video, thanks for sharing. I am attending the RV Radio Network rally starting tomorrow, and was looking for some videos about it - yours came up with a few others. I hope to catch up with you at Hamvention some day. 73 de KC5HWB
More videos like this please!
Mike, you may have already done this in a previous video - but can you list the equipment you use while on the road?
Every ham should attend the Dayton hamfest at least once in their life.
As a Net Controller for the Pacific Section of the International RV Service Net, I highly suggest having access to Ham Radio as you travel in your RV. Personally, I don't rely on QRP.
Thanks for showing a great example of a life long hobby N9YYD
We have been camping at the Dayton KOA each year for Hamvention and I have my HF and 2m/440 installed in camper plus a go box with Buddistick Pro. Hope to see you this year! 73 KB8DXN
Terrific video, thx! 73, W6DMM.
Thank you for the video. Blessings to you.
Great video Mike! I'm getting ready to move into an RV soon and amateur radio is going to be a part of it. I looked you up on QRZ and saw that you are from Kalamazoo Michigan. I have family in Portage and friends in Kalamazoo. I just attended the Crossroads Hamfest in Kzoo recently. I talk to a lot of guys in Michigan, maybe we have made contact in the past.

For portable, I use a Yaesu FT891, telescoping pole in a flagpole holder in a receiver hitch. 10-40 EFHW. (I do have a throw weight/line.) Very cool stuff. thanks for sharing Mike!
I have not ventured into the CW world. Yet. LOL KM8RTY
From warm and sunny Dayton, Ohio, thank you for visiting. We in the Media trailer hope to see you again next year.
Great video Mike! I’ve been thinking of getting involved in mobile - but didn’t have a clue!
Plus, I NOW have yet ANOTHER excuse for the XYL for MORE radios/equipment!
Great video! Where did you get that cool slingshot antenna launcher?
Great video. Very informative to me, so when my son finishes using my RV in a few months, I’m going to get everything I need together and take it with me when I’m on the road. 73’s from N8SV in WV.
Thanks Mike! Like you, I've been interested in Ham Radio since I was a kid, but have never bothered to take the tests. I'm in the Broadcasting field as a Satellite Uplink Engineer transmitting National football games and breaking news all around the world. I'm looking forward to my Part Time RV days and Ham Radio might become part of it. I've got plenty of experience with RF, Encoders and modulators that I could adapt and apply to this retirement hobby. Thanks for sharing that there is a specific group of Hams out there for the RV enthusiast.
Mike AWESOME Video ( as usual !! ) ... I'm fixing up my shack and "NEED" one of those callsign "tents" for my microphone .. where did you pick yours up ? Love the style .. Thanks for all you guys do .. we are RVers as well and am slowly transitioning my shack to being more POTA, SOTA based .. but your insights continue to be so informative !!

Good video! de Ed K8EAF
My friend had a radio in his house and his wife got leukemia. I then found out that there’s high incidence of this disease and a few others because there’s so much power coming from those sets.
Simply not true. ALL ham radio frequencies are non-ionizing and you cannot get cancer or any other "disease" from it.
K8ZRH de N0IB. I have a KX3 and a CrankIR traveling in a Travato. Thanks for sharing! 73, N0IB
Comment ..Good over view of the RV ham radio hobby..73,WG7D.
