There is nothing stopping US from talking to the creators and putting limits on the app. I think banning most things is a little extreme though. The app maybe overstepping in its boundaries on privacy issues, and that can be discussed, but there are other solutions. I don't use it, however.

Americans should think about why a Singaporean would want to found TikTok in China first, but not in the United States. In the last era 2000-2010, these things were 100% found in the United States first.
Consider that it's a very broad and prolific Chinese surveillance apparatus, that United States users willfully log into. I used to be addicted to it. November 2023 i stopped using it. After a month of not using the app, It felt like i did a mental detox. I never went back. January 1st 2024, I ended up deleting the app from all my electronic devices. I have zero desire to go back to it. If President Biden does in fact decide to sign the Tiktok ban into law, it will definitely have in impact on his voters that use it. Especially ones who earn money from the app directly, or use it to promote thier business.
If they get on the topic of cars ... Every new car is collecting data on your driving habits. Every car manufacturer, not just electric cars. They need to get into negotiations on where the data goes, who gets what and how. No way around it and it needs to happen asap. Every app on your phone has permissions, every one, to get into your phone files, data, settings in some way or another. They can access your contacts, calendar, photos, phone (calls) microphone etc. They need to start those negotiations for every type of electronic device and the data, that's what needs to happen. To languish on that is foolish. We really don't need trade wars.
