Lijiang is one of the most attractive destinations in China, and very unique in many aspects. Its geophysical location has allow a perfect preservation of many cultural relics, such as a imperial court music that can be traced back in a thousand years (Song Dynasty). Aside from the beautiful snow mountains (Jade Dragon), it is a great sample where Han Chinese have been living peacefully with a few minority ethics such as Bai, Yi, Yao and Zang/Tibetan. In recent years people from coastal areas even Taiwan and HongKong choose to settle here to infuse a vibrant Artistic accommodation and cafes. Happy life in China for all!❤

@@AlinaMcleod Those places mentioned rival or even surpass Yunnan in terms of the no. of beautiful and diverse landscapes they have, and also the diverse ethnicities. Tibet and some border towns though you need a separate entry permit.

Love to hear how one knows that the CBC are livid. Now CBC and CGTN are pretty equivalent. If CGTN was livid, you'd never know it. The CCP obviously has bureacrats to insure its vision of reality is perfectly broadcast. CBC lives in a multiparty state, so it can't produce perfect.

I’ve never been there, but my wife went there five times, loved it so much she bought a house there and wanted to live there after I retire. I sold the empty house after she passed away, but always wonder what’s so great about the place that she loved. It’s definitely on my bucket list to visit. Enjoy the trip.
I just love seeing old and ancient places. That breakfast looked better than Denny's, and with a much better view. I must say, you looked so pretty in those traditional clothes.

There are quite a few Ukrainian women who have settled in China or married to Chinese men who have regular vlogs on TH-cam and they speak fluent Chinese like a native.
Yes. I watch a few of them on Douyin (via TouTiao). In China, Ukrainian ladies are known for their beauty. I have Chinese colleagues (when I worked in China) who very much look forward to visit Ukraine for business trip. Btw, there are also Ukrainian models working in China.

There’s a small town a few miles away from Lijiang called Shuhe, it’s well worth a visit. It’s so relaxing with crystal clear water flowing through the town and an array of beautiful ancient shops to explore. You even see locals leisurely riding ponies around the cobblestone streets, beautiful.

By the way, on the 1st day upon arrival, don't drink too much alcohol, don't run, don't rush, have a good rest and sleep well. Otherwise you maybe suffer from altitude sickness next morning with headaches etc.

Canada is not a slouch when it comes to nature. Actually more of Canada is nature than almost any other country. VIA exists to ease access to that nature. I'm American, but I've traveled to Canada a few times.
The travel from Banff to Jasper is spectacular! Peyto Lake was stunning, and its turquoise color surprised me. I'm surprised that there is a mountain range with snow this far south in China. It will be on my bucket list.

Thanks Alina. Your video reminds me of my trip to Lijiang13 years ago. When the big water wheel and the clouds above it showed up(yes, the cloud, as the cloud there seemed much lower than that in Guangzhou where I live), I suddenly feel being back in Lijiang and being back in 2011 again. All in a sudden, I seem to be stepping on the stoned streets and be feeling the wind there again. Those are really great memories and thank you so much for bringing them back to me. Great videography capturing the beauty of this area. You are right about the mountains and trees being reminiscent of Alberta Canada. China is such a big country that it is not surprising that the difference in elevation and temperatures encompass just about any landscape in the world.
Your selection of the traditional Chinese costume is also a good one. Whenever I see a Westerner wearing traditional Chinese costumes it is so symbolic that we can blend the best of the West with the best of the East.

Highly recommend you go to Shaxi old town some day, it's not far from Lijiang and it's much smaller, but it's what Lijiang looks like in 90's.
I agree, it's way less touristy, and it feels more like an old town.

Lijiang was one of my favorites
1st Yangshou (1990,1994)
2nd Beijing(1990,1993,1994)
3rd Lijiang and Dali(1993)
4th Kunming(1993)
The best street art in 1993 was in Chengdu (I regret not buying an amazing oil painting directly from the painter for $30 or $60 US just because everything else was so cheap)
The best trip ever was Hong Kong to Europe by bus, boat & rail including the 6 day Beijing to Moscow train (1990,1993,1994). The 6 day train was the ultimate fun because the local people and other adventurers who had also backpacked through China I met in Beijing & Yangshuo.
Went on a China tour in '07. We saw the Great Wall, Teracotta Warriors, and Shanghai. It was horrible, very rushed and we only ate Western food.
So I'm planning a new trip but the more I watch these videos, the more 'must see' places I put on my list. I think one trip is not gonna cut it.

I visit Lijiang many moons ago, had to go by bus only via Dali also a beautiful old city wall that is still intact. Went hiking up to Tiger Leaping gorge, may some part has been built China highest hydro dam by now.
This trip must be before May 1, the Chinese Labor day holiday week. By then, this place is swamped with tourists !!

There is another old town called "束河古镇" which is 15 minutes ride from Lijiang Old Town. It is more quiet and more esthetic. Banyan Tree is also there. But would recommend staying inside the old town.

When I saw you in the various traditional clothing options in various Chinese cities, is how much they reminded me of traditional Ukrainian and Slavic clothing. I am curious if you had any similar thoughts, since you are far more travelled in these areas than I. Your live stream from LiJiang sort of prepared me for this video, and if I could only pick one place to experience in China this would probably be my choice. Of course that's not discounting, that I really would like to recreate your Chinese journey with a bit more time. Yes, I too got a strong West and South of Calgary vibes from Spruce Meadows area of China. Including the same name as Calgary's, famous Show Jumping equestrian facility. Another great video.
Yes Lijiang is an absolute gem! Hope you get to visit sometime! Definitely some correlations with Slavic outfits with the more rural traditional outfits they had with cross stitch on it!

I remember driving from Kunming to Dali for a stopover before Lijiang. Along the way we visited Dinosaur Valley excavation site. There were many skeleton dinosaurs on display. I remember a fun fact that their toilets have ipad tablet at every urinal stall each showing different TV channels. There were more than 20 urinals.

Perhaps you missed the little ancient village of Shuhe (pronounced “shoe he[r]”) just a 20 min drive from the Lijiang ancient town. You can take a cab there. The first thing you notice when you enter Shuhe are the inhabitants who are dressed mostly in blue. They are the Naxi minority. They still sing songs and play musical instruments that their ancestors have been doing so for the last 700 or so years. I hope Shuhe is not as commercialised as Lijiang is today. When you walk through Shuhe, it gives you an even more vivid sense of what life must have been like some 700-800 years ago. A charming little village; at least it was when i was last there 13 years ago.
