Ryan was an absolutely invaluable member of that team! Every team needs lightness, positivity and humour. I work a job that’s been draining my soul for 4 1/2 years now- and it’s not as physically draining as what Ryan’s been through- and my funny guy who tells me multiple times a shift that I’m “killing it!” even if he has no idea if I have or not. That’s the reward. You’re putting your all into something that just keeps taking that starts feeling utterly pointless and one of your people comes and tells you you’re doing amazing, finger guns and all before getting back to work? That’s the reason I’m still here 3 1/2 years after I thought I’d quit. After those nights where it was just me and the supervisors. Ryan is a Team Builder, the glue of the Team, the one who kept people’s hearts up. If a team doesn’t have a Ryan, it goes from feeling like a real-life power rangers to a zombie apocalypse. ...I’m just glad Ryan made it a Power Rangers type of team. 🙂 Everyone needs hope.
They don´t count I suppose, you probably get used to them as your surroundings and you talk to them, but in such situations it is similar to zoom call - you see them, you talk to them, interact, but ... it is still not counted and won´t help you in your situation - unline with natives ;)
@@woodennecktie there is a point in whar you are saying. You can feel completely helpless and alone in the middle of Big Apple despite the "mass of bodies" around you. Usual count of intetactions is zero, which is actually lower than those with a lift you take. It is not about count of people you meet, but about number of relations, interactions and feelings. You have really none with NY crowd and those with camera crew are more like being an animal in the zoo - you are different worlds there. Therefore noone has any relationship and feelings towards the crew and not counting them as "other humans" - yesy they are there, but even in case of danger they will watch and film, not helping
Because it is uncomfortable and scary... it will make you stronger + appreciation of the little things when you get back many benefits mostly psychological lagging behind the actual ordeal.
Never seen before and after: Ryan with a beard. The beard did fit you quite well. This is an excellent example why I stopped watching TV many, many years ago. They create drama where no drama is. They try to make something up. This "reality TV" is a good example of being anything but reality, realistic, or authentic. This is why I love TH-cam and creators like you. Your videos are real, authentic, honest and direct from the person in the situation to the audience.

Forexalised I also grew up fishing with my dad, I mean you can go all damn day without catching a thing or just catch small fish. Highly doubtful to catch enough to sustain a grown man working hard to survive with fishing alone but I mean sure there are some people who might survive fine who have the right skills but the vast majority of people especially in western culture have zero clue how to do anything lol.

Man that tv channel was one of the bigger parts of my childhood. This is pretty crazy seeing someone who was a part of it reflecting on their experience with it while I reflect on my experience of watching stuff like this.

Wow. That was more powerful than i expected. I really felt your groups intense hunger & suffering. Glad you ended the video relating it to how people are starving & struggling every day around the world, and how fortunate we all are compared to them. So much to be grateful for. I also liked the part where you were about to give up & press the button...but when you helped your teammates cross the river you became reenergized. Being grateful & helping others will get us thru anything.
I’ve been there twice. One: 30 hour famine in high school. That was a taste (bad pun-sorry). Second & much harder: had a stillbirth at 33 weeks. It was 52+ hours of labour, no food in case it switched to a c/s. A nurse toward the very end let me have a piece of dry toast and it was honestly the best food ever. Labour is hard work, I was starving and so sad. Just awful.

I actually heard about this group of survivors as a second hand story...People were amazed that you got yourself out of the jungle into civilization on your own! I do not how the other parts of the series went, but the guy who told me about this said: "It was the toughest challenge on this TV-series and these guys just never stopped and made it out of the jungle on their own!". Very impressive!!!

Great story Ryan. I was on the ALONE show in 2018 and so much of what you said rings true. There were some big differences between our show and yours, namely, we did our challenge all separate from each other (it's called ALONE for a reason, not even a camera crew as we filmed ourselves), were in northern Canada in winter, and the goal was to stay out the longest while being restricted to our respective areas. I was out for 72 days and lost 60 lbs. Not a day goes by, and maybe not even an hour, where I don't think about my time there. There is also a lot of camaraderie with all the contestants, even from other seasons, even though we did our time separately. I'm grateful for the experience and have a deep appreciation for my life and its gifts. If you're ever touring in the San Juan Islands of WA look me up and you can crash at my place.
I watched the first season with my family back when it came out. It was a great show, but obviously very grueling for the contestants. My heart really goes out to people who do this.

I love survival! I love winter camping, building my own shelters, eating only what I can gather or catch, love it all! I wish I could do it more...but I have bills to pay and a family to take care of. This was very inspiring and I'm so happy that I got to watch it! THANK YOU!

This has seriously reinforced for me that everyone has value especially in a team environment at work. Obviously there’s some people who are great at their job everyday (your teammates) but everyone brings something to the table, and it’s up to me (the manager) to figure it out. It might not be clear (like having a positive attitude, or speaking Spanish) but likely there’s a situation where that person becomes the most helpful. Amazing story!
I'm emotional through the whole story because although I haven't pushed myself to this extreme.. I have gone through the starvation, the physical pain, how long an hour feels at night when it's cold or you feel ill from hunger, I know inability to eat or sleep, I know hypothermia and heat exhaustion, I know what it looks like when the eyes go black when you stand upright from malnutrition... it really helps me see how much I've endured, though it was here and there, this and that the past 10-15 years of different disabilities and illnesses and seeing you guys be victorious made me feel victorious too. I'm proud of you all. ❤ Thanks for sharing as well.

yep... Watched by fat americans sitting in their oversized homes. "Mother nature" sadly is very hostile and chaotic place - kill or get killed. What made us civilized is agriculture and settled way of life. Never in the history of the human kind, you can just be dropped anywhere and survive. All animals have small natural habitat. What made us expand as species was probably hunting and killing other animals. But such resource is not infinite either. So if we think about "mother nature", the only sustainable way of living on this planet, is proper agriculture. But it can't be made into a show, inducing emotions. So people let entities like Monsanto to rule, while getting their everyday dose of TV... I know this video is supposed to be about the "human spirit", but all I can see is grown up men wasting their energy for mindless entertainment of others.
I do not understand why you would ever put yourself through THAT level of discomfort for absolutely no reward or reason. That's a totally different type of human than me, that's for sure 😂
For some folks, a challenge is climbing a mountain, winning their rec league, making their varsity team, but for some surviving in the jungle is their of fun.

Dude, I watched that show forever ago. In the past few years I've started biking a lot and found your channel. I never made the connection that it was you on that show. My hats off to you brother, what a powerful experience.
Having gone over a decade on 4 hours of sleep a less and many years with an eating disorder/being forced to work 12 hour days on an empty stomach because I hadn't been paid and spent a fair amount of time in the jungle in Trinidad, it is hard. It's hot and sweaty and the insects never fuck off and in the night it gets surprisingly cold. I wish you had researched more edible plants in the region though because there is a fuck ton in that part of the world. Everyone complains Discovery Channel shows are staged so it's great that they kept the authenticity. I also wanted to add that your account of your entire experience, from your own perspective, the perspective of others, documenting what happened objectively interwoven with your more emotionally charged commentary and opinions, it was all very well articulated and presented. Great pacing, great editing, great narration on and off camera and great reflection.
It's very interesting to me that there are some people who travel the world and go on crazy, wild adventures (like you, lol) but most people never get the chance or maybe they have opportunities but pass them up. I don't think I've done much of anything but friends tell me that I have done more than they ever will. I suppose it's a case of perspective. Anyway, thanks for putting this video together I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Wow. I loved this show. I haven't been able to find it in a long time. I was never into shows like Survivor, I never understood the competition piece to it. I liked this show because it was about pure survival and teamwork. The same show did one in Alaska as well, and I was so deeply intrigued by how the "outdoorsy" people were some of the first to tap out because they couldn't work together as a team. It was such an interesting social experiment. The least outdoorsy people were the ones who made it to the end in Alaska simply because of unity and working it through. So interesting. Oh I also remember I would recommend this show to my friends because both the Alaska and the Venezuela one were streaming on Netflix at the time, and every single person who watched the shows always commented they'd rather freeze to death in Alaska than do the rainforest of Venezuela! Rain, snakes, bugs...no thank you- you guys are crazy tough

I live part time in the jungles of Argentina. It takes a lot of prep just to survive. To just place people there who aren’t even used to the humidity is dangerous. Then the poisonous insects and snakes it’s just crazy. I use a tent and I still get too cold in the rain. I really empathize and just to survive a couple days is amazing. Not many Americans who are used to excess could survive even 24 hours.
This was one of the best shows ever!!! It really had it all, I bet I have watched the series 20 times. Its such a shame Discovery never continued the series. I have been hoping for a long time that you would talk about the show. Thanks and also thanks for giving a update on everyone one the show. Happy they are all doing well.

I remember watching this show when it aired. Carolina was very sure of herself that she could finish the challenge because as she said, “I’m Venezuelan. It’s my country. I can hike this.” Then she was the first one out. I felt so bad for her. Glad to hear that most of you keep in contact. Seems like everyone still lives up to their true selfs as before.
I got rid of TV after 911 happened, seeing the negative impact that seeing that happen on live TV had on me, therefore I had not heard of this show (or any others). Thank you for sharing your experience! Wow, just wow! Amazing to see even after getting angry with one another, when it's people against the elements, starvation etc it seems the anger disappears and it's not every man for himself but every man for everybody else. I believe coming together as a people is Gods intention. Loving others as ourselves. It seems you all did this during your time together. Bravo to all of you! Amazing accomplishment just being there!
It would have been set up with the 2 people they met at the river paid to wait at a designated spot and give them a lift to the road with the truck also pre organised to pick them up or as Kiiturii points out, a production member provided payment/directions.

I suppose it's just sheer luck for humanity that some groups of people would rather not use such weapons on humanity because of the mess it will make, and the impact it will have on their agenda and the civilization of enslavement that people have been tricked into creating
Instead we just have covid zombie viruses and the vaccines to go with it.. If there is an actual virus circulating, it was made in a lab.. If there isn't one then probably more people dying of fear from an imaginary virus than any actual virus.. Most people are still too oblivious to realise that fear puts people in a lower vibrational state mentally and physically, which also weakens the bodies defences to illness and problems with the body, and can be why people become ill..

Humans had been waking up in the morning and hunting for food before they could eat.
Before fridges, we used to salt meat but even then, for a long time before that, we couldn't store meat for long and had to feed a community or family.

I think it’s kind of beautiful how fast social barriers break down when you are in a survival situation with people. They were saying they love each other and giving long real hugs to people they met days ago. Humans are social animals after all I guess.

Forexalised I also grew up fishing with my dad, I mean you can go all damn day without catching a thing or just catch small fish. Highly doubtful to catch enough to sustain a grown man working hard to survive with fishing alone but I mean sure there are some people who might survive fine who have the right skills but the vast majority of people especially in western culture have zero clue how to do anything lol.

Man that tv channel was one of the bigger parts of my childhood. This is pretty crazy seeing someone who was a part of it reflecting on their experience with it while I reflect on my experience of watching stuff like this.

Glad you ended the video relating it to how people are starving & struggling every day around the world, and how fortunate we all are compared to them. So much to be grateful for. I also liked the part where you were about to give up & press the button...but when you helped your teammates cross the river you became reenergized. Being grateful & helping others will get us thru anything.

I’ve been there twice. One: 30 hour famine in high school. That was a taste (bad pun-sorry). Second & much harder: had a stillbirth at 33 weeks. It was 52+ hours of labour, no food in case it switched to a c/s. A nurse toward the very end let me have a piece of dry toast and it was honestly the best food ever. Labour is hard work, I was starving and so sad. Just awful.

there probably was. if they collapse and literally dying in the next hour, I'm sure the crew who probably had a medic would have pulled them out.
It didn't take more than functioning set of eyes to tell these people were starving to death. I think he was going to die on the show.
I actually heard about this group of survivors as a second hand story...People were amazed that you got yourself out of the jungle into civilization on your own! I do not how the other parts of the series went, but the guy who told me about this said: "It was the toughest challenge on this TV-series and these guys just never stopped and made it out of the jungle on their own!". Very impressive!!!

Great story Ryan. I was on the ALONE show in 2018 and so much of what you said rings true.
There were some big differences between our show and yours, namely, we did our challenge all separate from each other (it's called ALONE for a reason, not even a camera crew as we filmed ourselves), were in northern Canada in winter, and the goal was to stay out the longest while being restricted to our respective areas. I was out for 72 days and lost 60 lbs. Not a day goes by, and maybe not even an hour, where I don't think about my time there. There is also a lot of camaraderie with all the contestants, even from other seasons, even though we did our time separately.
I'm grateful for the experience and have a deep appreciation for my life and its gifts.

I watched the first season with my family back when it came out. It was a great show, but obviously very grueling for the contestants. My heart really goes out to people who do this.

This has seriously reinforced for me that everyone has value especially in a team environment at work. Obviously there’s some people who are great at their job everyday (your teammates) but everyone brings something to the table, and it’s up to me (the manager) to figure it out. It might not be clear (like having a positive attitude, or speaking Spanish) but likely there’s a situation where that person becomes the most helpful. Amazing story!

I'm emotional through the whole story because although I haven't pushed myself to this extreme.. I have gone through the starvation, the physical pain, how long an hour feels at night when it's cold or you feel ill from hunger, I know inability to eat or sleep, I know hypothermia and heat exhaustion, I know what it looks like when the eyes go black when you stand upright from malnutrition... it really helps me see how much I've endured, though it was here and there, this and that the past 10-15 years of different disabilities and illnesses and seeing you guys be victorious made me feel victorious too. I'm proud of you all. ❤ Thanks for sharing as well.

yep... Watched by fat americans sitting in their oversized homes. "Mother nature" sadly is very hostile and chaotic place - kill or get killed. What made us civilized is agriculture and settled way of life. Never in the history of the human kind, you can just be dropped anywhere and survive. All animals have small natural habitat. What made us expand as species was probably hunting and killing other animals. But such resource is not infinite either. So if we think about "mother nature", the only sustainable way of living on this planet, is proper agriculture. But it can't be made into a show, inducing emotions. So people let entities like Monsanto to rule, while getting their everyday dose of TV... I know this video is supposed to be about the "human spirit", but all I can see is grown up men wasting their energy for mindless entertainment of others.

Having gone over a decade on 4 hours of sleep a less and many years with an eating disorder/being forced to work 12 hour days on an empty stomach because I hadn't been paid and spent a fair amount of time in the jungle in Trinidad, it is hard. It's hot and sweaty and the insects never fuck off and in the night it gets surprisingly cold. I wish you had researched more edible plants in the region though because there is a fuck ton in that part of the world. Everyone complains Discovery Channel shows are staged so it's great that they kept the authenticity. I also wanted to add that your account of your entire experience, from your own perspective, the perspective of others, documenting what happened objectively interwoven with your more emotionally charged commentary and opinions, it was all very well articulated and presented. Great pacing, great editing, great narration on and off camera and great reflection.
It's very interesting to me that there are some people who travel the world and go on crazy, wild adventures (like you, lol) but most people never get the chance or maybe they have opportunities but pass them up. I don't think I've done much of anything but friends tell me that I have done more than they ever will. I suppose it's a case of perspective. Anyway, thanks for putting this video together I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I haven't been able to find it in a long time. I was never into shows like Survivor, I never understood the competition piece to it. I liked this show because it was about pure survival and teamwork. The same show did one in Alaska as well, and I was so deeply intrigued by how the "outdoorsy" people were some of the first to tap out because they couldn't work together as a team. It was such an interesting social experiment. The least outdoorsy people were the ones who made it to the end in Alaska simply because of unity and working it through. So interesting.
Oh I also remember I would recommend this show to my friends because both the Alaska and the Venezuela one were streaming on Netflix at the time, and every single person who watched the shows always commented they'd rather freeze to death in Alaska than do the rainforest of Venezuela! Rain, snakes, bugs...no thank you- you guys are crazy tough

I live part time in the jungles of Argentina. It takes a lot of prep just to survive. To just place people there who aren’t even used to the humidity is dangerous. Then the poisonous insects and snakes it’s just crazy. I use a tent and I still get too cold in the rain. I really empathize and just to survive a couple days is amazing. Not many Americans who are used to excess could survive even 24 hours.
This was one of the best shows ever!!! It really had it all, I bet I have watched the series 20 times. Its such a shame Discovery never continued the series. I have been hoping for a long time that you would talk about the show. Thanks and also thanks for giving a update on everyone one the show. Happy they are all doing well.

I remember watching this show when it aired. Carolina was very sure of herself that she could finish the challenge because as she said, “I’m Venezuelan. It’s my country. I can hike this.” Then she was the first one out. I felt so bad for her.

I got rid of TV after 911 happened, seeing the negative impact that seeing that happen on live TV had on me, therefore I had not heard of this show (or any others). Thank you for sharing your experience! Wow, just wow! Amazing to see even after getting angry with one another, when it's people against the elements, starvation etc it seems the anger disappears and it's not every man for himself but every man for everybody else. I believe coming together as a people is Gods intention. Loving others as ourselves. It seems you all did this during your time together. Bravo to all of you! Amazing accomplishment just being there!
