Lanigan's Ball (fiddle lesson)

  • Lanigan's ball is an Irish jig, often performed with the original comic words.
    In this fiddle lesson I show the basic melody, suggest a little ornamentation, and talk about possible approaches to bowing. The tune is often performed in a rock style, and I demonstrate a few licks which can be used in a rocky fiddle solo. A free pdf of the sheet music is available to subscribers (see below).     Can you do a video on brasse donc la couche couche by Steve Riley and the manly play boys? It’s a beautiful song in Cajun French and the fiddle part is great!

      The rock version is awesome. Which other tunes lend themselves to a rock conversion? I like O'Keefe's slide at the end of Black Friday Rule, Flogging Molly.

      @@CMonsteronutube The things to look for are minor key, where the other main chord is one step down (eg Am-G, or Em-D).
