This is the best semi-tipi I have seen on youtube so far...I remain surprised we don't see more. In my mind it is the perfect bush shelter. This one breathed well, no smoke issues. Good work guys.
Thanks :) It is a very good shelter for the winter season. You use very little firewood compared to if you were outside. But an air channel will be a good thing to get enough air to the fire, or else it can get smoky.
Beats the debris shelter with more room to move about and the “indoor” fire, much warmer

Thanks :) The T burned out faster. In quiet weather it has a better suction, and I think it will work better. The temperature was between -4 to-8C. But the wind was a killer.

How to chop and saw 101
Nice videos Don. My dad ties the dog next to him when using the ax to train our dog not to be affraid of the loud ax. I like your many bushcraft talents to creat stuff for survival.

Aww why chop and saw so high up the tree? Was always taught that you utilize more by clearing some of the snow around the dead tree amd cutting around there. To which its own I guess just seemed like a waste.

Forgive me, i cant get enuf of this guy.
Hi, i am planning to build a wooden pole teepee tent (like above) for first time. The instructional videos i found in youtube were quite useful. I tried building a small scale model and it came in quite good shape. Now for building a 3 people sized teepee, i have few doubts:
1) weather at my place is mostly uncertain, so rainproofing is must. but how do i make an outer rain cover for the teepee ?, as the wooden poles are pointed out to all directions.
2) is it possible to make inner rain cover ?? But that will obstruct the smoke flaps right ???
3) On other thought for rain proofing the tent, can i seal the top part of teepee from inside completely, and for smoke exit - use stove jack instead ?. But here at my place, i couldn't find stove jack for tents. Ordering online from western countries is bit expensive for me. I checked the local stores and only welding cloth is available ( ceramic and silica material ). So can i cut a circle in the welding cloth and use it as stove jack alternative ? Or any cheaper diy you can suggest me ?.

The smoke flaps will help a lot. The rain will mainly come in between the door entrance and the top hole. You can tie strings in the poles, and tie them all together in the middle, and it will drip in the fireplace instead of running down the poles. The hole must be of a decent size, or you will get smoked. For better airflow and less smoke, you can dig an air vent or two. Dont let the canvas touch the ground it will rotten. You can have an inner canvas that hits the ground, and the airflow from outside will follow the inner one.

Thanks :) The torches burned for 2 and 3 hours. But it was blowing a lot. They can last longer in cosy conditions. :)
We all sleep in hammocks. Except my dog, she sleeps under me, on 2 sleeping pads, a dog jacket, and my jacket, when it is really cold. We all sleep in hammocks from Warbonnet Outdoors :)
