I like this ship. It looks and feels (so far) very similar to tier 6 Perth. Fast shooting guns that can penetrate/set couple of fires, decent armor (for a British/Commonwealth cruiser), torpedos have great firing angles and decent speed, crawling smoke, hyddro and heal are great combos. Doesn't get spotter, fighter or airplane depth charges though.
I'm not too high on Hector, but seeing the ship in action does make me a little more interested in it. I might just pick it up once I'm done regrinding lines and have my pick of RB ships before I do it all again.
She is interesting for sure, and if someone likes light cruisers will probably love her. She seems like she would be easier to play then most other light cruisers at the tier just by having that smoke, and being able to at least set fires for damage but still require high skills to not get deleted by enemies. The downside is still her tier... it won't take much for a super ship to focus her down very quickly, even in smoke. I won't be getting another research bureau ship for some time, but I will have to watch how she performs in games and maybe pick her up.
I think you missed discussing how this ship compares to the Sejong, that would probably be the closest ship in stats and play style. Otherwise good vid!
Light cruiser main who loves my Plymouth/jinan/Neptune. Also, tho different in practice, love my vampire w crawling smoke. Combined with the fact I am down to the Slava and Ohio as RB ships I haven't got(and aren't too interested in), this'll resolve what I do next with my rb points. o7
Since smoke, radar and HE is such a strong combo (said it yourself), would you mind revisiting the Belfast 43? Got it from one of the free containers and I think its much better than expected.
my "purple" friend says this ship is heavily relied on your hands, your ability to understand the game and map. so even though i got it too, i don't think i will be able to play it to the fullest of its capabilities.
Belfast 43 in comparison to Edinburgh does have more going for it. The problem is that the original Belfast also exists, and when you name something the same (with a number) but with a higher tier, you get some pretty big expectations that, in all honesty, B43 was never going to deliver. What Belfast 43 gains over Belfast OG it still loses dimply due to the nerfs to what Belfast did the best and T8 matchmaking (which, granted, is much better now than it was when Belfast 43 released, but it's still not the greatest compared to T7 matchmaking that Belfast OG has).
Looking at RB ships I honestly have to ask what besides Ohio would I take instead? Siegfried maybe? Well I guess... I do like my Agir but Captain's skill reworked nerfed both of those ships heavily and RB ships are some of the most resource intense, grind intense ships in the game. To me this looks like another good option once you've grabbed Ohio...
Ohio ain't that special imho. She's a sidegrade Montana with an emphasis on pushing/brawling, which isn't exactly "meta" these days. She's slightly slower, has worse DPM, better secondaries (which still only pen superstructures and DD hulls), better rudder, much better turret traverse, faster heals (that heal less), much worse ASW. Is she better than the Monty? Probably, but there are other RB options that are just more fun imho, especially the Colbert.

Don't downplay how amazing the vampire is either! Imo the best dd hunting dd in game with only a well played smaland or kleber being the only dds I've had any trouble with(and not too often at that). But I am a light cruiser main and ill definitely be getting this myself. o7

unlike coal ships, with research ships I recommend going for the most expensive first. I just got the Slava, I'm working towards the Gibraltar, after that I think its the British dd that only shoots ap.
I will get her on patch day, because it makes the most sense for me to pick her over the other option (Gibraltar) 1. I do have a 21pt Commonwealth captain and I do like to play the other crawling smoke ships 2. Gibraltar imho offers less in her own tier to me than Hector, due to the fact that there are not a lot of premium cruisers on T9 who aren't of the superheavy kind 3. My backlog of FB ships consist of only Gibraltar and Hector and my stockpile is big enough that I can afford spending it on a fun t9 cruiser and still be back to 60k whenever WG announces whatever t10 ship comes next. But yeah, if I were a Beginner I wouldn't pick her over Ohio, even if someone isn't too much into BBs.
idk how i feel about ships like this where it follows the lots of guns high fire % doctrine. These ships is what makes battleships not fun. It makes pushing in all the more harder, especially with torpedos.
This ship doesn't need a DPM buff, unlike the Tier VI Dido, you can mount a Reload mod, and with AR on your Captain, you're hitting something in the ballpark of 5.5sec for a light cruiser with 10% fire chance that can fire 12 shells (14 if the target is far enough away) which pretty much guarantee you a fire every two salvos. Not to mention the torps, which allow you to stealth torp. A lot of people are going to look at that 7.5sec reload and pretend like it's going to gimp this ship, when in reality it's going to be another fire starting, DPM monster that has just enough utility added on to slide it into A-tier. Players who will know how to use it, like an oversized DD, are going to have an amazing time with it. I personally love sailing Dalian, and see people who like a similar playstyle as loving Hector.
Really looks like a London, but slightly better shells per minute but much worse than the ships you are going to face in X/Super tiers. Going to get demolished in anything with radar or DD/Sub close enough to spot you due to firing penalty.
Hector will be an instant pick-up for my friends and I. We absolutely love playing multiple Perths in a div thus allowing for near or continuous smoke screen uptime with the coal module. Odds are because of the nonexistence of the spotter plane, the Hector divs will be best played with 1 ship to provide spotting like a DD, SS, or CV. Either way, crawling smoke provides massive div utility and can easily create game winning impact.
Why does WG tell you to advertise a ship which is not even in it's final state yet? It's like hey look at this Ferrari, right now it can go up to 320km/h but when you buy it, it's only gonna be able to get to 220km/h
Lol nope. It can't spot anything and can't alpha damage. It's not a Smolensk with absurd rate of fire and DD-level armour, and going up against radar ships will be a hard nope. Put all that together and it will be impossible to carry with.

Not to mention is a light cruiser so you play on masochistic difficulty already, I mean 34k HP and having a citadel and eating pens from 283+ .Gotta love getting citadeled by some 20km BB while in smoke or simply getting deleted no matter what I do, haha thats you get for playing a dd with a citadel..

Something I notice about your gameplay. You always talk about "helping" your team yet you leave them hanging, a lot, just so you can farm damage. I've seen you get ships close to destroyed and instead of finishing the boat off you switch to another target for farming. That ship you could have destroyed and decided to NOT help your team (so you can farm damage) ends up destroying a team mate of yours. I'm still a noob but for me farming damage is secondary to helping my team by destroying enemy ships.
Had an Indomitable (the carrier known for damage farming) game recently where I came top of the winning team with only 7k damage. Top xp from pretty much just spotting lol (I was going for the spot missions as part of the Dockyard)
Looks like a fun ship. Sadly its part of the Regrind Bureau and that is of the same game cancer WG put into the game along with Carrier, gambling and Sub. So it has to be boycotted.
To be fair to the hector, it definitely seems like your teammates subsist on a steady diet of crayons in that showcased match. Some of the worst positioning I've ever seen not in co-op.

For me its Perth too, I mean she is the OG Commonwealth ship... she just isn't as broken at t6 as Haida is on t7
