Making a Walnut end table with a spalted maple drawer

  • In this video, you can follow my full build from rough board to finished table. The entire table is built from one slab of walnut and a small piece of spalted maple. This is a companion piece to my previous live edge walnut coffee table and the walnut board was from the same tree and the drawer front from the same board as in that project. I use Festool Domino joinery, figure eight table top hardware, and soft close drawer slides. The legs are tapered on a shop built jig that I cover in a separate video. What a gorgeous piece of walnut you used! It made an absolutely beautiful table!! Thanks for sharing!!

    The front apron drawer cutout method was a cool approach. The contrasting drawer front gives it some visual "pop". The leg taper really adds class to this piece as well. It's going to look good with the coffee table!

    Beautiful piece Jeff! I’m getting ready to make a similar table out of walnut, and your video gave me
    some good things to consider. Keep the great videos coming!!

    Gorgeous table. I will try to mimic it when my skill set is ready.

      Thank you! We all build our skills by trying things we're not yet comfortable with. Best of luck!

    Great work and I don’t think woodworkers mind the length of the videos. We would stand around and brag and instruct each other for quite a while before realizing we had stayed too long. LOL

    Do you allow a small space in the apron opening so the drawer front doesn’t bind? Terrific job, I’m trying a hall table with 2 drawers and found your video while searching. I will use pocket hole screws and biscuits

      Thank you for watching and commenting. Yes, there are small gaps above and below the drawer sides. Good luck with your table - hope it turns out great and you enjoy and learn from the process! Jeff

    Nice work! Can you post a link to the 1/2" beading bit?

      This is an Amazon affiliate link to a really nice version of this bit:
      beading bit
      If you're not going to use it a lot, you could do fine with a less expensive version.
      Thank you!

    Are you using the DF500 or 700 domino joiner?

    • @JeffMarxWoodworking
      @JeffMarxWoodworking  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the 700, but I have added an adapter from Seneca Woodworking which allows it to cut mortises for the 5 mm Dominos which I used in this project. Thanks! Jeff

      At 7:00 you can see the domino joiner model.
