These are my favorite videos you do- INCREDIBLY insightful! So hype to see you on your pro journey 🤙 Love the newsletter too- can’t wait to see the Johns/Waters breakdown!!
These point-by-point breakdown videos, with normal speed then slow-motion analysis, are the BEST for my learning and progression. Thank you! Keep it up!!!
I came up with phrase to remember when to reset to the middle "When you are in a pickle, hit to the middle". So often we do too much when we are on defense or the ball is low for an attack. Thanks Tanner! The main benefit I get from this video is learning better how to anticipate a shot through pattern recognition.
Absolutely some of the best teaching out there. Breaking down points like this helps us to not just watch the ball but actually watch the players and what they are going. GR8 stuff !!
I love the line about going from a disadvantage to winning the point. You you shouldn't skip over going back to an even game before trying to win the point. 14:25
@@tanner.pickleballi think your point is good and accurate at the net that with same level players you will lose 90% of reversal attempts but when coming to the kitchen on a serve i see a lot of people being to passive going to neutral getting to net on a weak ball too much when they could speed up and win the point there at a high percentage
Dude, your pickleball content is amazing. I watch everyone of your videos. And even your video production quality has been improving since I started watch. Absolutely amazing job! I just started a tiny pickleball channel and it’s hard to not have things look amateur, your next level man!!
I appreciate your enthusiasm and your humility. (It can be humbling to post your own matches and offer the critique of even your own play like this. Admirable. Too bad more of the "Studio Experts" are not willing to do this.) My instructor had a heck of a time getting me to "dink soft middle when you're in trouble." You had to go and reinforce his tip, didn't you?! Seriously, I do believe this tip alone has been super valuable. - Dink
Another great vid. Love these game/match analysis vids. The video production quality is also excellent. Thanks for sharing your journey and knowledge with the community.
4:52 “fire-fighting going, reach out, ready to go”! I watched your video yesterday and paid attention of your saying. I reached out and hit a push back on an attack this morning. Now I realized it was the technique you just taught. Thank you very much. Your video needs to view multiple times.
Super helpful, Tanner! I love your game analysis videos! Unrelated - but your match against Yates and Blaine was a fun one to watch. I recorded a couple of good points- if you’d like, I can send them to you.
@tanner, great video analysis and insights. Thank you. For the return of serve during unstacking, I actually feel cross court (or middle) return might be better for the following reasons: 1. When you go down the line on your return, your partner can be more easily targeted down the line. 2. The person driving (when you return down the line) can hit his cross court drive angled off the court (that makes it harder for you as you now have bigger space to cover now since your partner has to worry about the line and his body) 3. It's hard for the driver to go behind your partner if your return is cross court. So your partner can help you more in the middle. Agreed that when the return is cross court you'd have less time on opponents 3rd but that's offset by the fact that your return will also take longer to get to the driving guy since it's cross court.
I'd enjoy a video highlighting the arc of the ball for dinks and drops. In particular where should the ball hit its peak and how high should that be. I've enjoyed all your videos that I've seen. Thanks.
I am loving your analysis and just found your videos. This is the third I am watching but after 4 min. I’m not sure I can go on with the background music, just some constructive feedback for the future. Look forward to more analysis videos and cool you are playing with kyle his Shannan’s is excellent also.
Split step when ball crosses net: any advice when you are bailing back? I hate when I don’t get set but trying to create more space at last second when bailing
As a 4.5, I feel like with some guys in 4.0 & 4.5 there's like an ego thing where they like to be the more aggressive player when on the right side. It seems like in the advanced levels everyone knows to let the forehand side take control.
I'm merely a 3.75 in practice, on a good day. Even though this material is pretty far away from what I need to use in my typical game play, I think it is important to keep advanced concepts percolating in my mind as I progress up the ladder. Knowing this sooner rather than later, I believe I will develop far fewer bad habits to fix later.
Fantastically helpful insights, thanks for that. Just one thing: the background music was somewhat distracting, i.e., kept me from fully listening to what you were saying. Just, um, saying, lol. Anyway, keep up the good picklin'!
I have a quick question, so at 5 minutes you talking about your partner in a firefight and you want to have your paddle extended middle is this also true for your backhand since in the video you're both forehand middle. Thanks great videos as always..
On point 6 you say it's the left side players job to protect the right side players left foot so right side player doesn't have to hit a backhand dink, but doesn't that go against "respect the x", where left side player is responsible for body and line and right side player covers the middle? Or is that more for speed ups and dinking is different?
4:00 yes your paddle is down but your standing straight up like your strolling thru the park. How about bending your knees to a athletic position. If he hit that over head he could of easily hit you in the face. You put your paddle down when your at the mid or back court.
Why don't players smash the ball tennis-serve-like with massive side spin? I would think it's like in baseball where the pitcher changes up the pitch and throws off the batter with all kinds of ball trajectories.
PRO LEVEL analysis. Tanner, it’s clear how much effort you’re putting into these videos-your attention to detail and the quality of your breakdowns are exceptional. Everything is so crisp and solid, making it incredibly easy to follow. I learned a ton from this! Do you happen to have a link to the full game as well?" This looks like a really fun challenging game

For this match specifically, nothing specific, just getting more reps in high pressure situations!! Couldn’t put it together when it mattered.
