Royal Mail profit last £758 million. Shareholders are rewarded for our hardwork with £567 million in dividends. The Board and CEO reward themselves with fatcat bonuses & shares. Our manager went on strike earlier this year and the business rewarded them with a 5.5% BACKDATED salary increase plus a £1000 bonus. In fact, everyone received a monetory reward of some kind except the posties that did the god damn work! Now for our hardwork, the business wants to tear up our T&C's and threaten us with compulsory redundancies. And the public question why we are striking. The public arent aware of the facts at all.
The whole service should be run as a not-for-profit National Postal Service. On the topic of young managers telling experience workers what to do, it should be part of their training to work as a regular ‘postie’ for at least 6 months before being considered for the job!
As a postman myself i can shed some light on this, i have been there 10 years now and the pressure we are under daily is tremendous. I have seen 25 yr old graduate managers that have never delivered a letter in thier life bully 60 year old men with 40 years service, telling them to stop talking to customers and that if he doesnt walk faster and stop claiming overtime they will take them down the disciplinary action. It blows my mind how badly run the company is. My van is 14 years old, the heaters dont work, it is covered in dents (not me) and the back door is held on with wire as the hinges are broken. So why am i still there? The people i deliver to are salt of the earth and i enjoy the physical work, winters are....character building lol.
This basically is a general strike but the media dont want to actually call it that, because it will bring up the ghost of Thatchers britain. Which is what we are living through anyway. Again.
We expect it from them. We don't expect our own people to set out to ruin Christmas for millions. They can talk about conditions, but ultimately it comes down to money. Silly for a bunch of people at Royal mail who are needed less and less. People will just take their business to much cheaper options who don't strike
Can i just point out that the reason for the backlog of mail and parcels IS NOT due to the strike days alone, it's down to the over-time ban imposed on workers by the CEO Thompson since November. Christmas could be delivered, the company are stopping it happening, NOT the posties or the union.
I feel for these businesses but unfortunately its not just about them. Posties are fighting for their terms and conditions and the future of the business. The company are claiming they are losing a million a day but yet only reported record profits of £750 million in April and gave away over £500 million to shareholders. Royal Mail need to be held accountable for all of this strike action, it is them that got us into this position in the first place.
Royal mail isn't needed anymore. Very little will be achieved from this for them other than making their jobs more insecure. Currys have walked away. I won't use people who set out to ruin Christmas for millions for their own pocket. Just find another job or idea

This vital and important service should not be in the hands of private owners who are only interested in making profits for shareholders. Profit and private businesses are vital to the country, but not in this case, it is like the NHS, something we need to be able to rely on whatever happens.
I support the postal workers regardless of the inconvenience it is causing me in the run up to Xmas. The Post Office is engaged in a race to the bottom where employee rights and pay are concerned and, also, their service obligations in law and to the public as the end users of the postal service. We stand with the postal workers, or we will all lose.
Simon Thompson gave away a sizeable amount of that money to the Czech billionaire who has been gathering up shares, wants to take the company over, turning it from a first rate service to a third rate one, where nobody is valued, and nobody will go the extra mile, like they have done. The postal workers are not only striking for themselves, but to protect a public service, for the public 🤷
I'm sorry my sympathy is with the post office worker not some guy selling herbs in the post to people. It feels like business people can never take a hit to profits where as working people are expected time and time again to take a hit. If I said to this guy I want your boxes at 30 percent cheaper regardless of his costs then he has the right to not accept these conditions and withdraw. the bottom line is " bring down the share prices so Czech guy can buy it for pennies. whatever happening is in favour of top management and the Czech buyer. they planned and played well,
Sounds like other parcel couriers are more expensive - why don't Royal Mail increases a little bit to make more profits instead of culling workers that they actually need.
Not really - yodel do a tracked service for just over £2. Royal mail tracked large letters are near £3. I trade on ebay and send mostly untracked large letters which cost me just over £1. If I switch to yodel it will cost me £200 a month at least. I still use royal mail but email all buyers delivery could be several weeks. Yes privatisation is to blame.
I remember about 15 years ago the Post Office workers were striking because the management wanted to modernise to remain competitive and the workers were objecting. 15 years on the Post Office has lost a lot of its business to its competitors and the workers are on strike again because they don't want change, which is now imperative to save the business. I think it is already too late and the Post Office will be a thing of the past in a few years
The UK needs a reliable , affordable postal service that delivers to ALL 32 million homes so businesses small and large can thrive online. The Royal Mail CEO and board are trying to strip it down for a fast buck. The wealth from Royal Mail is leaving the UK into foreign investor pockets. It s not good for the Posties the businesses or the UK as a whole. Its greed and nothing else! CWU Solidarity ✊
25 Years at Royal Mail , what Simon Thompson is doing to the company is disgusting, he must go . Royal Mail is a 500 year old British institution , it must not be destroyed it’s still a public service. Corporate greed must end now . Save our Royal Mail.
The obvious cause is privatization and bosses taking fat cat payments for themselves and their shareholders while treating workers like crap and like slaves. And it's insane because many economists say that that model of capitalism is what caused the 2008 crash. Full power and support to the strikers!
Wow breaking news, different people have different priorities that's crazy, how about contact your customers and tell them something like "because the government won't give Royal mail decent pay and conditions, there's going to be a delay etc etc", but instead let's have workers fight amongst eachother while the tories are rubbing their grubby little hands and cracking down on strikes legally
Yet another comment from someone who things RM is owned by the goverment. NEWS FLASH!!!! In 2014 the goverment sold its last interest in RM, it is now owned by shareholders including many peoples pension funds.
Business owners need to get a grip and back those that are doing the job for them. No post office a lot of these business wouldn't exist. In doing this they are supporting the big bosses that are racking in thousands.

So the business owner at the beginning of the clip is relying on under paid delivery workers for his business model to work. If the posties were individual businesses then it would be a stupid business model to work for less than your costs, the costs of staying alive and in a fit mental and physical condition to be a postie.
Parcelforce driver friend of mine got a new van, had it for 1 week took some annual leave for 2 weeks when he got back the side loading door was destroyed and it had a huge dent in the rear next to the back wheels and one of the wing mirrors smashed. They had given his brand new van to agency workers to cover his holiday and they basically destroyed it visually at least. The company doesn’t fix them once they’re damaged they just keep using them as long as they’re road worthy. It’s a ridiculous company.
Fully behind Royal Mail staff. It’s time we stopped fat cat salaries for select few and also put an end to shareholder greed at the expense of workers and stand firmly on the side of British workers who have been mugged year on year to serve a rich minority. Wealth in the UK is dangerously concentrated in the hands of few privileged.
Some Royal Mail employees steal people's post (they call it 'lost', we all know lost means stolen!) Theft within the mail service is not taken seriously enough despite the fact that theft is a crime!
Beginning of the end of workers rights it’s not just about the pay. Good job we have unions fending off the fat cats in this country. If the big unions can’t help the working class who can ? What next everybody on zero hour contracts 😵💫
I've had money stolen from post and also a usb stick stolen from post, all royal mail instances. Never send anything anymore unless tracked but they are an absolute rip off.
Royal mail is bankrupt on paper. Strikes like this will only accelerate the changes which the workers want to avoid. Royal mail WILL have to radically change to survive. These workers need to face up to the reality that they are working for a failed company and are lucky to have a job at all. If they want more pay they need to look elsewhere. If they want to keep things working as they did in the past then they will force the company to fail and result in their jobs being lost anyway.
1 day of strikes RM could almost cope with a clear backlogs. 2 days a week will break them. The question is - posties are losing 1 day wage every strike day. I hope they have a good reserve fund. I am in business and can't afford to lose 1 day of sales - let alone 2 days a week.
Supplement 7.5% getting rid off, tens of thousands of staff even tho there at extremely low staffing rates to get the job done! & whole host of terms & conditions, snow for days held up the post years ago but it was caught up in a day or 2 now 1 day of delays let alone more is uncatchable, because staff levels are so low

why not including someone from management? what do a business owner has to do with postal service problems, he was a customer of royal mail for his benefit, now he moved for his own benefit.
It is a ludicrous situation. It makes no sense to have postal and multiple couriers declivering items to every address. It is inefficient, it is costly, and it is less secure.
The art of DIVIDE AND CONQUER, is the oldest tactic in the history of the human race practiced by all political ideologies yet it still seems to work particularly well between people who think they are of a higher social and economic standing than the class who they perceive to be below them in these areas. In reality they are being appeased. and told what to think instead of thinking what the writing on the wall actually says. the torys have done this so much since they've been in power , Now its dividing the party , some now think they are conservatives and others now think they are tory. this tory practice of divide and conquer that they have bombarded the working class with for decades , is now going full circle and hitting there own ranks.
Is this being made worse by the ending of free movement? There used to be a larger supply of labour, now there's a more limited supply and many of the labourers are of older age. What happens when they get the pay rise they seek? I'm guessing prices will go up. Usually it's either low growth or inflation, but we've got both.
The government is to blame for wasting billions of pounds of our taxes paying there mates to fund dodgy contracts .We all need to be forcing are way into parliament and kicking all those dossers out.
Collapse of royal mail. I'd like to see that. No more letter deliveries. What will be knock on effect for , city post, whistle, UK mail. And any others that rely on royal mail to deliver their bulk postings. Looks like they'll be out of a job. Hey could always go to Amazon.

These letters will be delivered by an " Uber" moped rider alerted to attend a Delivery Office to do letter deliveries. Good luck to the public getting a safe, secure and reliable service with that. The parcels will follow suit with a person in their car or van. Check your wheely bins for delivery!
Government said no to the five day delivery
Solidarity with the postal workers.
All the posties I've spoken to don't want to be on strike, so I'm calling BS on their 97% member approval figures
Haven't yet received my over due electric bill but I can live with that
😂
It’s not the posties fault but the people running the Royal Mail.
Mismanagement at every level at its finest !they have a lot to answer for
My business manages 24 people, we are on a verge of collapse due to the strikes. It's hanging by a thread. The Royal Mail strikes are having a domino effect on other postal services. We back the workers, however thing's are looking bleak for our organisation and many others. It's projected that we have two weeks max left in the pipeline before we'll have to seize all operations.

So how much will the price of a 1st Class stamp go up this time in order to pay for any wage increases?
Post person is for life not just for Christmas - support your postie - all year round we deliver your mail - no matter what the weather - all we ask for is fair pay and terms and conditions our peers fought for .
Royal Mail made a profit during the pandemic delivering and collecting test stuff. Some of this profit was distributed as dividends to share holders which included lots of Royal Mail employees who got shares at a discount. A lot was invested in infrastructure. The Royal Mail is now making a loss because it is loosing against commercial competition. The CWU and the unskilled postal workers now want the the service to be nationalized again and postal workers to earn £20 an hour whilst other distribution workers, many self employed, earn a fraction of that.
The government must not use tax payer money to support a private enterprise business. If the workers want more money then they need to earn it rather than sitting back and arguing about 'tradition'
The mps should be stripped of their jobs and replaced with people who care
SOLIDARITRY. I stand with postal workers and all who are striking. Corrupt government and companies making massive profits. Give workers better terms and conditions, pay and look after them.
the bottom line is " bring down the share prices so Czech guy can buy it for pennies. whatever happening is in favour of top management and the Czech buyer. they planned and played well,
Solidarity
The strikes are necessary and metroline buses won a 10% pay rise recently so it can be done.
And Sam Smith says “I’m alright Jack…”
And Justin Bieber said ‘one time’
He sang the theme tune to Bond film Spectre.
"The Writing's On The Wall."

25 Years at Royal Mail , what Simon Thompson is doing to the company is disgusting, he must go . Royal Mail is a 500 year old British institution , it must not be destroyed it’s still a public service. Corporate greed must end now . Save our Royal Mail.
Strike by all means but not at xmas time where it hurts the public to much
they are the public
Damn right! Y'all go get that bag 💰. Sending love from Cali to y'all in the UK 🇬🇧
The obvious cause is privatization and bosses taking fat cat payments for themselves and their shareholders while treating workers like crap and like slaves. And it's insane because many economists say that that model of capitalism is what caused the 2008 crash. Full power and support to the strikers!
how is £40 almost a days pay? that is complete and utter nonsensical.
SUPPORT THE WORKERS
Wow breaking news, different people have different priorities that's crazy, how about contact your customers and tell them something like "because the government won't give Royal mail decent pay and conditions, there's going to be a delay etc etc", but instead let's have workers fight amongst eachother while the tories are rubbing their grubby little hands and cracking down on strikes legally
It’s a private company
Yet another comment from someone who things RM is owned by the goverment. NEWS FLASH!!!! In 2014 the goverment sold its last interest in RM, it is now owned by shareholders including many peoples pension funds.
@@seana2646 OK point still stands just replace government with their employer
Well done posties fight the greedy tyrant puppets
THAT GUY IS LAUGHING HE DOESN'T LOOK THAT UPSET, HE WILL MANAGE AS HE SAID, POSTIES WONT
That guy should blame Tories, simples
couldn’t care less about some middle class business owner selling overpriced veg kits vs the posties on the ground keeping us all connected.
general strike needed
Business owners need to get a grip and back those that are doing the job for them. No post office a lot of these business wouldn't exist. In doing this they are supporting the big bosses that are racking in thousands.
At the end of the day people need to be paid enough to afford the basics of life
Why not buy grow kits this guys selling by going to local garden centers..can never understand why anyone would buy plants online when there’s many places local with better quality and it’s greener and more eco friendly too buy local..support your local posture and support your local shops this Xmas
She's brilliant. Everything she said was true. For me it's not about the money? It's about our terms and conditions. Sack Simon Thompson and replace him with Sandy. 👍🏻🇬🇧
These strikes have destroyed many small businesses who were depending on their Christmas rush
The owner of pot gang likes the current prices at RM but rest assured if Thompson and co get away with this prices WILL go up so they can continue shelling out to share holders.
sack the tories
Is the news reporter not listening its not just about pay
The royal mail depot in Honiton Devon are very disgruntled as their manager treats his staff terrible so they won’t do overtime which means there is a constant backlog
simon thompson head of track and trace lost the uk billions enough said.couldnt run a bath
I remember when we would have morning and afternoon post .
Stand with all striking workers.
It’s a weird situation because I know the country can’t afford to give everybody in the country a pay rise but at the same time our government made this mess soo general election get the problem out then we move
More million airs & billionairs than ever before, highest pay for ceos & mps than ever but poverty through the roof, the moneys there there just giving & letting the wrong people keep it
they can afford it by taxing the hell out of the rich. Make the rich pay for everything.
@@theshimario253 not really that simple and tbh that’s kinda dumb
@@frostynugs4206 no it's not dumb. The rich dont pay their fair share.
@@theshimario253 a decent idea would actually be completely different like legalise cannabis create new industry what makes new jobs makes the country money from the millions here who smoke it already and we stop wasting money on police raids for it win win win few extra billion for the country a year
all posties would jump at 9% if we get assurances about hours and conditions and no redundancies, we have so many vacancies Thompson would have to employ them to make them redundant.
Unfortunately this will probably end the Royal Mail. People don’t care about others just getting their parcels and will go elsewhere.
So the business owner at the beginning of the clip is relying on under paid delivery workers for his business model to work.
If the posties were individual businesses then it would be a stupid business model to work for less than your costs, the costs of staying alive and in a fit mental and physical condition to be a postie.
The status quo is not going to remain afternoon deliveries for most and premium rates for morning deliveries
Together we stand, divided we fall. Solidarity to all and victory to the CWU.
Who will even notice when Royal Mail does not deliver. All I seem to get is wrong delivers that I have take to the post box!
Stop lying Andy
Who else has seen all the dumped Post. Who else is waiting on important letters?
Well said Sandy
I've had money stolen from post and also a usb stick stolen from post, all royal mail instances. Never send anything anymore unless tracked but they are an absolute rip off.
Another nail in the coffin for the royal mail.
Thompson out!
Look what happened to danish Mail 10 years ago. U on same track.
Owner drivers also worked gallantly through the pandemic.
Well I have stopped ordering now on eBay because they use Royal Mail a lot and the delivery service is lousy
Daniel KRETINsky is the one with most of the shares.😪
They just did everything anyway ,thank God ive left after 20 years ,they got a huffy on and spat the dummy out and didnt pay me my accrued annual leave ,also a girl I worked with for 7 years left in January this year we worked our socks off last christmas from 730 am til 530 in the evening pitch dark because of our amazing customers I had for 10 years ,we never asked for help as other staff had their jobs to do and when the girl left in January they didnt even pay her the pittence of a performance bonus we got for the managers fiddling the figures so they could get their thousands .Our office was never cleared so not sure how it came about.I am just so happy to be gone .I do feel for the customers I saw as family although I do still visit from time to time .Loads of amazing memories.I remember when I filmed for the bbc sing for the king but declined as there was no way I was going to help them look good .
Your not saving Royal Mail by striking
What is Sunot talking about Royal mail is private, knob
why not including someone from management? what do a business owner has to do with postal service problems, he was a customer of royal mail for his benefit, now he moved for his own benefit.
It is a ludicrous situation. It makes no sense to have postal and multiple couriers declivering items to every address. It is inefficient, it is costly, and it is less secure.
And yet every single one off these couriers all make profit.
HIRE SANDY AS SKY REPORTER
Is this being made worse by the ending of free movement? There used to be a larger supply of labour, now there's a more limited supply and many of the labourers are of older age. What happens when they get the pay rise they seek? I'm guessing prices will go up. Usually it's either low growth or inflation, but we've got both.
SOLIDARITY!
The government is to blame for wasting billions of pounds of our taxes paying there mates to fund dodgy contracts .We all need to be forcing are way into parliament and kicking all those dossers out.
The customers arnt going anywhere yet but if this carries on it may leave a gap in the market for another company to take its place.
Collapse of royal mail. I'd like to see that. No more letter deliveries. What will be knock on effect for , city post, whistle, UK mail. And any others that rely on royal mail to deliver their bulk postings. Looks like they'll be out of a job. Hey could always go to Amazon.
The King will create Royal Mail 2.0
Don't blame the workers.
Our PM is just changing the law to help out investment banks. But he cannot support all the striking workers who are living on minimum wage. It's pathetic. Leadership in the UK once again is just catering for the elites.
RM not being honest with the workforce a brutal employer never seen anything like this before
I thought its wasn't Royal Mail any more ?
Still Royal mail but not Publicly owned
Sunak says banning strikes,. How is he gunna do that? The have already striked
