I love the way your dogs come to you for attention when you're making these videos. So cute :)

I used to have a lovely black fellow. I was his 4th foster home and just couldn't send him on. He took a while to settle in but turned into a delightful buffoon.

Wonderful to hear he found a home with you 😊 it must be very unsettling to move around so much

When we went to look for a small brindle girl greyhound we came home with a large black boy !
Mind you he had read the Pr manual stuck to us like glue during the visit and pleaded for more massaging from my husband
Nearly two years on we are still seriously in love with him

Same with us. Wanted a small female brindle but adopted a massive black male!

Great advice I am a greyhound volunteer walker and agree with everything you have said, I also have a soft spot for the senior hounds and my favourite ones are the black ones ....Daisy is a beauty and stole the show ...keep up the good work x

I really enjoy your videos, and wish everyone who's new to greyhounds could watch some of them. It's a shame that people have preconceived ideas about which dog to choose, and it's often based on size, the sex and colour. I must admit to having a very soft spot for the boys, 4 out of my 5 greyhounds have been boys, as I like their soppiness and goofyness. I found my girl was more aloof and independent, which I think is often the case. My first boy was quiet, not one who'd jump up at the kennel door for a fuss, but I walked him for a while as a volunteer, and ended up falling for him. He'd not had the best treatment, and was a bit shut down. He was a big boy at just under 40kg too, which I think put prospective owners off. He turned out to be an absolute dream of a dog, I couldn't have wished for an easier, lovelier dog, and he started my love affair with the boys. He illustrates what you're saying (though he was a 3 year old fawn, not an older black!)

Thank you Nicola, sadly it's something I see a lot. Just last week I heard of someone who will only consider a male Brindle. Very sad to me as many of other colours, and also girls, could well fit the personality needed for that home. By narrowing the options in that way, they may also wait longer before a dog that meets their other needs can be found. In my experience if the dog is not black, and they stay in kennels for some the chances are they have additional needs of some sort, such as nervousness or reactivity.... Or as in the case your boy they are large. many people ask for a small girl, so these tend to be home to the quickest.

Hi Jan, just found your channel, I've had 4 greys up till now, I lost my 4th 18 maths ago and found it very hard to get over. I finally decided it was time and went completely mad and NEEDED 2. I found my pair after 4 months and started learning them. I have found we love everything except their longest walk of the day. When I say long its still not far as I have RA. My huge worry is, my wee girl whines almost the whole time we're out. She pulls the whole time. I've never had this before, I've checked all her joints and her paws, I've checked her harness and her coat incase they're too tight. Nothing, I was wondering if this was anything you've seen before. I don't feel she needs the vet but I'm at a total loss. Thanks liz palmer x

My first thought would be anxiety, but of course there could ve a variety of factors influencing her. If you would like to book a consultation to discuss your concerns please do contact me via my website 😊

My lad is a 6 - nearly 7 year-old dark brindle. We hit it off very quickly, but, before I met him, I said I didn't mind whether the hound was male/female, what colour s/he was, or how old. He's definitely a breed ambassador. Not met a grey I didn't like.

Thanks for your advice, sounds like just the type of dog I want,I'm looking to adopt an older hound.. I have a cat so I'm waiting for one available that is compatible.. I'm in lincs... spoke to someone briefly on the phone in Boston so I've started the ball rolling so to speak.

That's exciting! It can take a little longer to find the right dog when you have cats, but they do exist

I am in the USA, do not yet have a hound and I will prefer an older male(6-? )--in any color and I hope the dog will choose me. I also hope to adopt two and not just one, perhaps a bonded pair. I love greyhounds and have been studying the breed for nearly a year to get to know them and I get to walk one that lives upstairs in my condo building. He is darling and we really enjoy each other's company--an older dog that wants a quiet adored life is what I am seeking. I wish I lived in the UK your work is quite an inspiration to me.

We have a black (very dark brown) 3 year old. He's got white tips on his toes and tail, I've noticed this on many other black greys I've seen online and in person in the UK. I wonder if this trait originates from the two famous dogs you describe?

    • @jwcaninecare
      @jwcaninecare  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes that's very true, I think white toes is more common than completely black 🤔

Great video ❤I am hoping in the next months to adopt a grey . I had them before and I can’t warm to another breed the same . I am hoping for a black and 6 years old would be fine . My last ex racer was a little brindle and she was so sweet . I do have a challenge though . My daughter has a pet rabbit so I am going to have to get them to cohabit ( not actually together of course but in the same household ) so I am hoping to get a laidback dog to work with . I have done g training and behavior experience but any tips about getting them used to small animals I would love to hear !!!!!

Exciting! there's a big difference between being safe around small furries in a controlled situation, and being OK with them at home, so I would definitely talk to the charity about it up front and see if they can test the dog for you. Good luck!
