    I was one of many who proudly built New Holland skid steers in Belleville, PA. We always were told that Bobcats were the pinnacle and we were always striving to close the gap. Now after seeing this video I see why we didn't. We built a fantastic machine but it wasn't designed with a whole lot of common sense apparently.

    I have owned an LS 189 for almost 10 years now. No problems other than hose failure and the injection pump seal. My Bobcats are old, 1996 and 1998 but agree they are great machines! have been wanting to restore my old Bobcat 843 which has been sitting for 10 years now.

    Tbh i did not know that NH are problematic, got a ancient LX865 still runs great. Just everyday care and on time service intervals. Bobcat is basically the “first in skid steering”, so they have more experience in user friendly and service friendly configs. Great vid 👍

    I have both and my new holland ls185.b Has been flawless with 7,200 hours. definitely way better than my bobcat. 773 was updated to a 600 hour s250 and the 250 has had more issues in the past year than my newholland since new!

    Great video from a business owner who owns both machines. Really enjoy watching these kind of videos and wish more people would do reviews like this so we can all write about are experiences and maybe learn something. Buying a skidsteer is a huge investment and it worried me that I might screw up and buy the wrong machine. Bought one a couple weeks ago for the up coming season and I literally sat and tested every new machine brand in my area, while I had time this winter. Wacker, Gehl, Terex, Tachuchi, Bobcat, Kubota, John deere, And Cat. Its was very hard to make a decision. such a huge selection with different emissions and specs. All I want is a reliable machine. Nothing fancy. I will say the Wacker SW17 series surprised me the most. Its a really nice machine with a great 4 year warranty. John Deere G series were nice too.

    Just wanted to say I love seen real comparisons from people that actually use skid steers. I actually sell New Holland skid steers and I know exactly what you mean about the 100 series being a royal pain to work on. Good thing is, the engineers actually listened to customers and now they are much easier to service on the 200 series. All the service points are simple to get to without having to be a contortionist and they kept the power and stability. And with the redesign, they have amazing visibility and a bigger cab. I think this video is a very good point and accurate when comparing old skid steers but the biggest complaints against the New Holland have been fixed on the new series.

      That funny...my research shows that the L200 New hollands consistently were a "stay away from" model. Guys who ran older ones got new 200's and said "a little easier to work on, but now they need to work on them all the time".

    another thing that should be added to this comparison is bucket visibility. the new holland the bucket is much more exposed and you can see everything. the bobcat has a cross arm that can at times make it extremely difficult to see when doing more delicate work. that being

    I've got a New Holland LX665 & it hasn't broken down in nearly 30 years of hard work. So the configuration has never been a problem lol. But hate to state the obvious but my fuel pump is accessible through the back door, and if the battery ever went flat, you can very easily put one foot on the door locking lug & the other foot on the reinforcing step inside the back of the door & its like a step so its easy to reach the battery with jumper leads, start the engine & lock the boom up. Its so powerful it can lift the comparative bob cat up on its tail & lift all 4 wheels off the ground rendering it helpless. But that's just for fun & should never be tried at home hahahaha. One problem that may help others is, sometimes they can lose fuel pressure through minor line leaks etc so i added a standard boat fuel squeeze primer in the fuel line & a couple of squeezes eliminates any start problems if your sender or lines ever leak, or if you run out of fuel, its super easy to give a couple of squeezes & she is instantly primed in a couple of seconds.

    I have run the 2013 New Holland C232 skid loader and they are under powered . The accessibility of the machine was greatly upgraded from the previous models. The boom set up to me is more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Besides machine being underpowered I liked it. The excavating company I work for just got a John Deere 333e and I'd like it much better than the New Holland c232. The John Deere 333e has more hydraulic power but also and it has 20 more horsepower. When going into a pile of stone the John Deere seemed to not bogged down near as much as the New Holland. The New Holland if you went into a hard Stone pile the machine would request more power than it had so therefore sometimes if you didn't relax real quick it would die.

      @davidbutler8565 ปีที่แล้ว

      20 more H.P. is a huge advantage on any skidsteer and that’s were your power issues lie. I always thought that if your using a smaller H.P machine than your business calls for than you are only abusing your equipment and need to upgrade to the proper H.P. needed.
      Always do your homework when purchasing a new machine because there is so much of it available these days.

  • @tractermaster

    I think bobcat are good machines and there are things I like about them, but I'd still take a new Holland. 2011 we bought a 2007 L190 and I beat the crap out of on our dairy farm. bought it with 1600 hours and traded in with 3000 hours and only put a fuel pump in it. the early model of the new New Holland L200 serious have been rather problematic but they've managed to get most of the bugs out of them. we traded our L190 in for a brand new L230 which was a great machine doing work with, loved the forward speed but they had the hydraulic pumps slowed down on the early ones (which kinda pissed me off) and had the foot controls in the cab put in a bad angle. our 2012 L230 has had a lot of issues but ours is one of the worst our dealership has seen out of their 5 stores. we just bought a new 2015 Holland C232 track loader with 650 hours on it and I love it! they resigned a couple things and I'd probably take a newer new Holland over a newer bobcat, also cause the fact that bobcat has a rather weak front attachment area and its much loader in a bobcat and one koe plus is from what I hear the new Holland track machine has better traction that a bobcat track machine. but that's just my 2 cents

    I have a '96 NH LX 485, had it since '97, I went through like 4 flex plates before my HD Mechanic friend told to put 2 more engine mounts in, haven't had any more issues. I have rented Bobcat skidsteers and I find them to be slower in responsiveness, I also had a Bobcat 323 mini excavator and it was one problem after another with the final straw being it cracked where the tracks expand.
    I don't think I would buy another NH though as their customer service when I was having the flex plate issues was non-existent "out of warranty" so they didn't give a F

  • @davidbutler8565
    @davidbutler8565 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree.
    I own New Hollands & John Deere’s which are basically the same machines or at least the later model’s (through the 90’s & up until the early 2000’s) & the Hydrolic’s & speed are better than my Bobcat’s & for their size the power is a bit superior to Bobcat’s as well.
    But the Bobcats I own are definitely much easier to work on than the New Holland’s are.
    But I will say that all of the machines that I have owned over the many years I’ve been in business have never had any major issues, mainly due to proper maintenance, basic up-keep but more importantly by never beating on the equipment & doing the repairs needed right away including worn tires.
    The one downfall with every skidsteer machine is having your own knowledgeable mechanic & not having to rely on the mechanics at the dealers because if you have them do anything no matter how small or how big they will always give you one thing that’s consistent & that’s a very large repair bill!

    I can’t speak for the new model machines but the older LS new Holland’s were great machines. I always liked the overall feel of the new Holland over the bobcat and I felt visibility to front attachment is better as well. As far as servicing goes it does look like bobcat did their homework although I’ve never found New Holland’s to be difficult to work on. At least for farm use I’d take the Super Boom over anything out there.

    тоесть у нью холланда два минуса, это батарее к которой он своими кривыми руками не может долезть и фильтр топливный, так поставь новый аккумулятор и забудь, фильтр перенеси в конце концов... а то что он проще в разы по конструкции чем бобкет, стрела у него вылет больше для погрузки самосвала, а чем проще конструкция тем надежней... у бобкета же все напихано, двигатель боком стоит ремнем насосы крутятся это минус. проходимость хуже у бобкета. какой-то собственно предвзятый отзыв, может ему выгоднее бобкеты продавать.

    All they’ve done to her is replace the fuel tank, hydraulic hoses and I think he said the radiator. Services her regularly that’s it! I had a cat 226b with issues from day 1, a cat 248b that had a head gasket go at 3,700 hours, drive motor and pump go at just under 6,000 hours, I had a cat 226b3 that had a rusted fuel tank and had major dramas from day 1! Never buy a cat skid steer unless you get the d series

    Thought I would add my input sinceI am a mechanic and I work on this equipment daily for a large nursery and landscape company...
    We have lots of New Hollands... L785, Lx865, L180, LS180, LS190, LS180.b, LS190.b , L230, C238.
    We Have on Bobcat T650.
    This week I have had half of the New Hollands in the shop for one reason or another.
    The L785 right foot boom tilt control does not work - probably a leaking hydraulic cylinder.
    The L180 I had break down in a field, no hydraulics. I spent all day taking the drive chains off only to have the last spindle stuck on the machine and to end up calling a tow truck. I have it in the shop now with the entire rear cover off, cab forward, and am taking the front pumps off...The main gear/flywheel sheared and wont spin at all. This particular machine has had a new motor, both new pumps, all new linkage, many new servos, and one side drive motor put in in the last 4 years.
    The C238 has been to the New Holland dealer 4 times and has left the landscape crew without a machine dozens of times because of the emissions systems. The machine will randomly go into limp mode with no warning but will pass a regen test no problems and wont set a code for 3 to 5 hours. The guys have been instructed to let the machine idle and not shut it off and start it back up frequently.
    The other machines are ok. The Bobcat has had zero issues, aside from a leaking track drive hub however is much lower hours compared to some of our New Hollands with 6500 hours on them. The Bobcat is at 1300 hours, the c238 has 1130 hours.
    The Bobcat is easier to service in my opinion and when something does break, it is only two large bolts that need to be removed to cab forward the machine. The New Hollands all require all the side panels to be removed, 6 bolts holding down the cab, depending on the machine some harnesses/hoses/or air filters have to be removed, and the parking brake springs. then you can get a huge come-along and cab forward the machine. To remove the pumps the bottom service panel also needs to come off.
    Also - to work on a New Holland that does not start - disconnect the hydraulic boom lift lines and use another skid loaded to raise the boom and then push out the lock pins on the broken down machine.
    Our CATS, John Deeres, Kubotas, and other machines never give me as many problems as frequently as these New Holland skid loaders. I am very unimpressed and would stay clear of any machine built from 1995 to current - definitely have emissions problems.

      wagil90 Yes- I have had lots of John Deere skid loaders back in the day. They were exactly the same as New Holland but since they have changed. I haven't owned any recently- I broke both my elbows bouncing around in John deere's. They had metal plates for arm rests-dipshit design.

    Last Bob cat we had was garbage. Literally problem after problem all the way up to 3000 hours. Switched to new holland and about 3000 hours later the only problem is the front right bogey wheel bearing is bad. Other then that it's been a great machine with tons of power. Not to mention. Never had an issue with freezing filters and its we've used it in -40 degrees.

    • @toomanymachines
      @toomanymachines 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      it depends on the fuel quality, noting to do with the filters. put crappy fuel in and plug up filters. put clean fuel in and never need to swap filters.

    bobcat outdated. never want foot controls ever again. unless they updated to sticks. cat skidsteers all day. and avs for track machines. ( now bought by terex.) but the new small terex machines wont ride on top of a snow pile like the old avs rc 30. those things will go right up a snow mound

    if i was hourly paid, i would buy a toyota. But i'm not so i wouldn't buy anything that isn't VLP. Bobcat isn't cheap enough to be any good at hourly paid and not quick enough to be production paid. I pay mechanics the same price whatever they work on so don't care that .001% of the time they have poor access to the engine bay.

    shitty engineering is always a huge factor. if you need a repair done it costs 3x more. Just like Mercedes not putting oil dip sticks in some of there cars. These people who design this crap also is designing the repair industry. This is the monopoly of the game!
