This was an incredible song. I've never heard about Dream Theater until it was suggested. I'm definitely happy it was.

Greatest band ever! Some great ones have already been suggested like Change of Seasons (23:00 mins) and The Count of Tuscany (19:00 mins) which are a both incredible so I'll suggest The Shattered Fortress from the same DVD as this phenomenal song. Looking forward to watching your Dream Theater journey. Peace.

They range from ballads to pretty heavy stuff and everything in between. if you want some heavier stuff, try The Glass Prison, This Dying Soul, Panic Attack and see what you think

They are easily the best band no one has ever heard of. They have been around since 1988 and pretty much released an album every 2 years. And many many live dvds so plenty of material to farm for them. They have so many really good songs all very complicated like this it's hard to recommend any one song. John Pertucci the guitarists actually didn't show off too much in this song. And he is considered maybe the best guitarists today. To me this is just an average Dream Theater song. They have many other songs much heavier or faster or you name it. I prefer them with their old drummer Mike Portnoy who left them a few albums back. For whatever reason the songs just seem more interesting with the old drummer. Probably because him and the guitarists were the two main guys.

The keyboardist used an organ and synthesizer sound. It's typical sound of the 80's nothing medeival.

To me it sounds like this style of music but with synthesizers - th-cam.com/video/TufShFpD3NM/w-d-xo.html

@@SmokinSessions I'm a keyboard player. The video you linked is of a person playing the lute or harp sound on a MIDI not on an actual keyboard so it's not the same. There are other keyboardists in prog rock like Rick Wakeman from Yes that uses 'medeival' classical sound patches like lute, pipe organ and harpsichord on his keyboard sometimes even playing the actual instrument too.
