I went to their skate camp and carlos was the instructor. He was so nice to everyone and caring. I had been really afraid to drop in and he really helped me out. He was so nice and supportive and never gave up on anyone. I hope he’s doing really well now.

True that! One question, tho... so what was up with his cheek/skin, couldn't quite make it from the video as sound was a little bit sub-par so hard to decipher certain parts. I assume he said it had to do with little sleep or someth.? Like stress/exhaustion? Thx for replying, just plain curious. More importantly, Carlos looks great now (esp. for his age!), so happy he's had it all done with and cured/resolved/whatever. Hyped to know that and looking forward to new footy!

CMCSS 2003 he literally said that he didn’t leave on bad terms and that the rest of the braille guys were supportive of him moving on. So you either take his word for it or don’t. If you don’t tho, it’s literally just speculation

Dude Carlos always seemed like a level or step ahead of the other skaters in brail and you could really tell how hard this guy will push to be better
The Braille skate team is pretty weak as far as a skate team goes. I’ve only started watching their stuff recently but haven’t seen crazy pro talent there.
@@hofx666 I agree with that. But it's a business, first and foremost. I get that some of those guys will never be a Chris Joslin type or anything but, all in all, I never watched it for that. They may end up making some over the top content but it's the teaching and support of the skateboard community that makes me respect Braille a ton.
Ye I think the idea though is to have mid/low level skaters so the average person watching can relate.
You watch Jaws ollie a 25 stair and you just cannot imagine doing that. Most of us just hope to be as good as Nigel or Uzi tbqh. We're not pros and never will be, just wanna be able to land a few tricks and have fun. Yea you always gotta push yourself but for some just enjoying themselves is enough.
Like say what you will about their skill levels as a beginner skater those guys are significantly better than I am and give me a realistic goal to strive towards. If you watch exclusively pro parts you will just get bummed out cause you'll probably never be that good.

Jarthen Greenmeadow as a skater who doesn’t plan on going pro, I completely agree. It’s nice to see some average guys try and teach people like me who wanna learn some average tricks and have fun rather than extravagant stuff

Yeah, carlos was definitely the top skater at Braille imo. Whenever they had a crazy idea, carlos always stepped up to the challenge and was usually the last man standing. Good luck to carlos.

He's not mad about braille. He had his time there. He helped them film content. There is always one in the group that will go big and do the crazy stuff. He was just that guy. He got hyped up and enjoyed his work. Always pushing to do bigger badder things. He grew from the experience and now he has a platform to build from. He's got it going on now. He's good

oh man skateboarding sucks. The larger the wheel the faster it goes, so skateboards have the smallest wheels and so they are the slowest at the skatepark. So yeah scooters are faster than skateboards. But you wont see it cos the riders are cowards. Blades are just the best, take my word for it.

the point that impressed me the most was when Carlos was talking about wanting to help people get better at skating in general and he says "give them as many pointers as I learned from braille". He did NOT have to tie back to braille at that point he could have said so many other things but this man is a damn professional and a pragmatic speaker and he has my utmost respect forever.

Braille was just to much for Carlos, imagine sending it and hurting yourself like that almost each and every day for videos and committing to it. When really it’s just a lot more relaxed to skate normally and with a team and friends and focus on more attainable things rather than clout and sending it for the views. He’s very talented and better off on a serious team than just random daily skate content.

@@progressdaily100 Yeah there's a very fine line between a passion and an obsession. When we do the activities we care the most about, at a high level, it's very easy cross over that line without realizing it, esp when we're really pushing for that next milestone/goal.
braille actually do to much unsafe challenges, that’s it’s content and what’s mean to, Carlos is too committed to anything that he do, so it was clearly not a good combination, skating is risky anyways but at least a regular board is an up to date design that gives you some confidence and your feet gets used to it, it’s actually crappy to put trucks to a ironing table and try to skate it.

As someone who's a little older and lost my parents a little early in life, Carlos has it right going back and spending the time while he has it and can enjoy it. I'm happy for him to be able to do that and still press forward in his skateboarding career. He sounds like he's going to be a great skate coach, too!

mad props to Carlos and the Braille team. Haven't kept up much with any of their content recently but I'm glad they're all still changing and growing. They all seem like great people at heart and they've done so much for the skateboarding community/culture.
Carlos will always be my favorite, is just such a genuine dude, sleeping on a futon in the warehouse and still slamming out content for these guys everyday, he's a real one just wish they didn't place so much on his shoulders, he hard carried braille at the start forreal.

Carlos is a Grade A Certified Good Dude. Really hope life treats him well, he's clearly worthy of it. Also - learning how to say "no" is a hard and important skill. "I stayed to help clean up" while already putting in 10 hours days? Sometimes it's okay to say yes to yourself. We all learn though. Wishing Chthulhu the best!

Dude, that boardslide down the 20 ft. block had to be the coolest/sickest boardslide I've ever seen. Carlos Lastra is the man and I don't care what he does. This will always be my go to boardslide footage. I felt like I was watching some crazy trick off of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. It was flawless and he made it look so simple. Too clean. If he ever reads this I just want to say that I know you're going to do what makes you happy and what's best for you but you're one of my favorite skaters ever. Not only because you're a great skater but because you have tremendous mental fortitude and you put your heart on the line in anything you do. You're also very humble. I wish I was half as cool as this guy, not as a skater, but just as a person in general (besides the skating). I bet a lot of people look up to him just from his attitude alone. Including me. Doesn't really matter where he ends up because he's going to make the world a better place every place he goes to.

clip at the end reminds me of my dad & I. we used to butt heads & get into fights but always shared a love for music. after he passed, I learned a lot about his life & how I basically mirrored it without even knowing anything about his childhood. RIP pops.
