You notice they don't give you advice on creating your own Massage Practice, that is why you have no wage growth

I've been practicing massage for 20 years, I made more money prior to 2005 because of the corporate take over.

If you are interested in becoming a Massage Therapist the info is misleading, be prepared to dedicate one to two years of studying the hard sciences such as the following: Anatomy and Physiology, Kinesiology, Pathophysiology etc as well as dedicating many hours of hands on training .and prepare for a state exam that 3 % pass.

There was no wage growth because there is no Union to protect wages for massage therapists and most are paid on commission per service which has been decreasing every few years as well as discounts being applied to service and Massage Envy bringing wages down nationally.
Also, we receive no vacation pay, and very often no health benefits as most locations especially post Covid only higher part time.
The only way grow your salary is to work on private clients and set your own wage in relation to your skill set.
You can make money if you are highly skilled, medically trained , dual licensed or work in the highest end spas also if you start a spa business or referral service and hire others.

I work at a massage franchise (not massage envy. That place SUX). My coworkers and I have noticed a sharp decline in our tips recently. Most of our clients always gave a $20 tip for a one hour massage. Lately more clients are giving half that, and more recurring tips as low as $6-7 for a $109 massage. That's less than 6% tip. Also the longer the massage, the lower the tip percentage. A two hour massage should give you twice the tip amount as a one hour massage. Not so. Many times the tip amount for a two hour is almost the same as for a one hour. Finally the vast majority of our clients want deep, DEEP tissue work, very physically taxing on us, yet give shit tips. Add the fact that we get no paid time off or insurance along with heavy wear and tear on your body. If you're super strong/fit, go for it. But if you're an average human, this job will have you burned out within two years.

I don't know what state you're in, but here all it takes is a 500 hour certification course. That's not too far off from a CNA but that's way less than it takes to become something like an RN.
