Roughly during the same time epic was working on this it also started Gears1, and gears1 was originally named “unreal TPS” in house; then Microsoft “hired” them for a Xbox 360 exclusive, meanwhile Midway was already dying… They could have cut away the “single player” of unreal tournament 3 ( maybe originally designed as Unreal 3, as previous unreal games ha a sports game naming convention), and reworked the game as a multi only game with very basic narrative.
This takes place before UC2. By now Lauren working for the Iron Guard was still alive. Then in UC2 she was a Necris and they work closely with Liandri, The whole war was orchestrated by Liandri.. and Malcolm a highly condecorated civilian was always working for Liandri.

I remember the moment when i got chased by a drone and he released a missle forward my plane, i jumped out, fell into a water and saw the plane exploding and peices on fire falling into a water. IT... WAS... EPIC!!!, and not to mention it, it was 6 years ago ;)
As stupid as the story was, it was still a fun single player experience. Even though, UT 2004 had truck load of maps and gameplay types, it wasn't as fun as this game in the single player mode. Also, I'm a sucker for anything dark and gothic, so graphically it was more appealing to me. Yes, the movement and controls in general reeked of consoles, it wasn't that bad...

There is not singleplayer story (even though there were reports that UT4 is a sequel to UT3 but nothing in UT3 returns). The fact that the unreal community is working on the game means that it's more of a mod than a game. My opinion though

I imagine it's because the Necris made a deal with Malcom at one point, although it's unknown what deal exactly it was about. Probably more money, or use of the Necris in general ressurection and maybe that's why, for example Lauren, is so different in Unreal Championship 2. She became a part of the Necris... and then there's the similarities Shock Rifle and the Rocket Launcher's similarties between in UT3 to UC2. maybe UT3 is a prequel.
Because Gears of War was more successful, not to mention it impressed with cover based combat. After they were done with that, they made Unreal Engine 4, created Unreal Tournament Pre-alpha, then abandoned that because Fortnite was more successful. Unreal Tournament is a thing of the past, I hate to say. I liked it too.
Nah, the cutscenes were pretty bad, whereas the gameplay was actually pretty decent. As a UT99 fan, I actually preferred the gameplay of this over UT2004's hitscan heavy and overly jumpy gameplay.

UT2k4 was a better game overall but this single player was interesting.. I hadn't seen the cutscenes before.

Not as feature packed as UT2004 but still a better game then 99% of MMS games and IMHO the story is still better then most MMS games as well :)
