BMW is the most sorted out of the German trio. My bro had a 335d xdrive touring and it was fantastic. Great dealership too.

Genes - You must be talking about the old 5 series F10 so far all car reviewers have rated the new G30 5 Series top of its class hence why Mat in this review has said you should just go ahead and buy it!

Yeah it won from one source, so saying that it is the best overall is just stupid, the news Mercedes e class has won more awards but that does not mean it is the best car overall. Different sources, magazines etc pick out their winners based on their critics. So actually if you want to put it like that the E class is the best car in the class by leaps and bounds...
Personal oppinion, i think it is a nice car once you have all the options like the car in the review but it is so dull and ugly from the back, the design is already dated and even rivals such as volvo and lexus has a much better design.
I've had my 520d G30 M Sport for 19 months now and I'm still glad I bought it. It had a performance upgrade from 190hp to 225hp and that has really made the driving experience even sweeter.
how did u get the performance upgrade ?

@@denatdeni3555 late to the party, but in case anyone else reads this, I had the 320D ED (163bhp) remapped to 220bhp and had six years reliable motoring out of it before upgrading to a 330D. As long as you look after your car and service regularly, a good remap will not cause you any issues.
How's it doing now?
I'm a bit of a car nut and I've sat in / driven lots of (normal) cars. I've never felt more at home than in a 5 series. Something about that cabin just makes it work perfectly for my average 6ft body. Great review, by the way. This is the best review that carwow makes.

Kudos to BMW for using a car with a light interior for a press car! I like to actually see how the interior looks and black is kind of impossible to show the details in pictures...

Sounds like a kid on a tantrum. The other guys already conceded that the E is nicer but the 5 is a better machine. But the mercs lover is like no mercs, mercs blah blah is better and then shows one newspaper article?! Probably knows nothing about cars. What car award is the one that all the manufacturers want to win. His dad probably has an e class.
I have 2018 400 4matic and I love it. The 5 series interior is dated. Drove both and I like the e class better. Cheers. I think it’s a matter of taste. Cheers.

It's funny how subjective design can be. I've been researching both the E-Class and the new 5 Series for the past couple of months and absolutely could NOT decide between the two. I finally went to test drive them both. In the end, *for me* it was a complete no-brainer and I came home with a 540i xDrive yesterday. On paper and in watching online reviews, it was too close to call... but in person, there wasn't really any comparison. As helpful as video review are (and carwow's are among my favorites), there's no substitute for first-hand experience.
It's nice to read about such an interesting experience, I was always wondering how close to reality these reviews could be.
Jason Stone I'm also on the fence between the E300 (2.0L 4 cyl) and the 540i (3.0L 6 cyl). What did the test drive highlight that made you go with the BMW?
First, they're both extremely good looking vehicles, though in person I found the E-Class to be a little frumpy/elderly in profile and from behind. That's entirely subjective, of course. Also, even though people gush over the interior of the E-Class, I found it to be overdone and borderline gaudy, where the 5 Series was tasteful and clean. Again... just an opinion. To me, the BMW looks fantastic from any angle. The biggest differentiator for me, though, was performance. It's a little unfair to compare a 4 cylinder against a 6 cylinder (especially when the B58 in the 540i is one of the best engines in the world right now), but to get a 6 cylinder in an E-Class, you have to go for the E43... which is sporty at the expense of ride comfort, and frankly, it's not much faster than the 540i (about 0.2 sec faster to 60). Aside from that, though, it's almost entirely a matter of personal taste. I liked the E-Class a lot, but it didn't make my heart go pitter-patter the way the BMW does. I'd definitely encourage you to test drive them both, though.

Jason Stone if you are a leader you chose bmw , if you are a follower you choose Mercedes, good choice as bmw is a great all around car.
doesn't have the elegance of the E-class? it's actually way more elegant than the E-class, which is too flashy and too pretentious like all new Mercs.
I am happy to report that the era of beautiful simple design of BMWs of the past is back!

I beat you'll love the A6 and it will be a bit Russian doll--but the real issue is that it will be FWD and therefore will never be near as fun to drive as a BMW
Great looking and especially love that cream interior one thing I hate about it though is the fact the front indicators are just bulbs

The e-class never had the crown. Equal generation models of the 5 and E have always seen the 5 series winning. It's the permanent segment leader.

I don't think the volume gesture control is a gimmick. I think it's very useful for rear passengers.
they do not work from the rear seat. The cam is under the review view mirror panel.
TheNOGarcia Why is the passenger changing the volume? Passengers are not allowed to touch my car settings when in it, the driver is the boss not the back seat passengers.

Oh no, she sits beside me and uses the gesture control to adjust the volume. Once someone in the back saw her doing that and gave a shot but it didn't work. I guessed you were not married because if you were you wouldn't say passengers are not allowed to touch your car settings.At least most of the men I know don't have the balls to tell that to their wives. :))

I've owned a 5 Series and at the same time, owned a £3000 Toyota Aygo with 70,000 miles on the clock. I'll let you guess which one never, ever let me down,and the one I came to love very much indeed.

Funny you should mention indicators on a BMW. The usual BMW stalk that doesn't stay up or down has been replaced with a NORMAL one that stays in place. Presumably this'll increase indicator usage 75% on all new 5 Series.

It's only "faster" because its xdrive while the current M5 is S drive. If the current M5 was AWD, it would probably hit 60mph in around 3.4sec. Yes, the next gen M5 will be a weapon and it have AWD (probably very similar to the awesome E63S AMG, which can be RWD in, I think race mode or drift or something like that).
I think the m5 would take it on a rolling race, for example, overtime

When videos upload it often takes a little while before they're available in HD. You just have to wait a bit before watching thats all.
there is a major fact that you left out, The bmw 5 series comes with 3 front seat option which are standard seats, Sports seat, and comfort seat.In my opinion, the car's seat is very important as it can dictate the whole driving experience.

@@sajithsaji3606 Depends what you like ultimately. 530i sounds better than a 530d. 530d has more power and is more efficient. I bought a petrol because I like it to sound better and didn't want to buy a diesel when diesels will be the first to go when they try introduce alternative fuels etc... whenever that will happen I do not know. But I just felt buying a petrol is a safer bet as I want to own the car for 5-7 years.
What sort of mpg do you get on a short run?
@@samkent5765 Depends how I drive of course, probably around 35/36 driving how I like. Could easily achieve 40mpg+

my 2015 535d has most of these features (phone control, digital dash adaptive lights and suspension) the new versions a nice car but you could get a better deal on a 16 plate F10
