We've noted that the cross correlation is often used as the basis for attribute calculation. We back up a little and look at the relationship of the correlation coefficient to the autocorrelation. We use a zero-mean function and suggest that, in general, the seismic trace and waveform are close to zero mean functions. This discussion ties in with further discussions of cross correlation attributes.
