- Kim Su-hyeon was originally awarded a good lift for her final attempt, the weight which she required to earn a ticket to the Olympic Games, but the jury had other ideas. With a little bit of support from the crowd, things changed!

It's great the masses have sway. However, the judging should not be that sub-optimal.
That's actually not even one red. We need this "no instability" nonsense tossed right out. There is no attempt whatsoever to move the barbell with her arms or re-lower herself after the catch. The elbows shake because the weight is heavy, and that's it. Press out should mean PRESS out, not slight flinch.
I pray that they change this.
It’s so dumb. It’s almost like judging a gymnastics routine if you start stealing lifts like this.
Very well said.
You're dead right and the strangest thing to me is if you watch footage from 80s/90s this is exactly how the press out rule was treated. Idk when it started getting so strict but there is one huge difference between now and back then - the judges were once weightlifters themselves and personally knew what it means to make a good lift.
YES. Well said man.
As someone not well versed in weightlifting, the idea of needing judges to decide if a heavy weight has been lifted is a little odd.
You’re so right 😂😂😂
You need people to decide what counts if I lift the the wait about 3cm above the ground and there’s no judges who can tell me it doesn’t count
I mean you clearly see it was not lifted. It was levitating in the Air by itself
There is a medal and prize for winning you need judges to control. Part of it is you need good judges
everything needs rules you know, otherwise there will be no fair competition
The crowd needs to intervene more often then because the judging has been atrocious overall
True
Agreed. The crowd tends to get bigger in the later sessions since most of them were ahletes that have already finished their session.
The jury needs to be abolished
@@dantethunderstone2118 The press out rule will be abolished after the Paris Olympics
if the crowd can intervene the jury's decision then what's the point of the jury? The point of having a jury is so that there is someone to make the decision based on a unbiased thinking. what if the crowd doesn't like a particuar lifter and did not intervene the jury, this wil put him/her in a disadvantage compare to this korean weightlifter which everyone has clearly helped. just givng my thoughts on this, not hating on this particular lifter or anything.
Really happy for her. Good on the crowd for not accepting that jury bs
Her? Look at that shoulder to hip ratio, there's no way that isn't just a regular fat guy.
For some reason, no matter the country involved, I can never bring myself to root against any particular weightlifter. It's just that kind of sport to me. As a kid, I rooted for the great Russian lifter Alekseyev. I don't think I was the only American pulling for him. The guy was impressive with the perfection of his lifts, consistent victories, and the way he would prepare himself when standing in front of the weights -- concentrating as if in some deep yoga state.

This championship is probably more intriguing than Olympics😅
The jury: "It's not about you! It's about ussssss!!!!"
They're grasping for straws, trying to feel like they're not useless
In my opinion it is. The Olympics are more about Countries rather than competition. Not to mention you can only have 6 athletes per Country which I believe takes away several elite weightlifters and maybe medal contenders from competing.
@@Brey This bs with the juries has been going on for a lot longer than just this oly qualification period. In fact, the Olympics themselves have little at all to do with it frankly. Which is why there's been so many egregious calls by both the judges and the juries across every competition and weight class/category. It's part political but far more to do with the officials demanding attention and being corrupt.
@@Brey 4 athletes per country. And there is only 1 country that actually has more than 4 gold medalist contenders. Guess who it is.
And IOC/IWF that voted to make this change. Guess which countries voted for that :)
And guess which of those countries are enemies of the 1 country
No matter the sport, everyone hates officials apparently lol. It's even all the way to weighlifting!
Honestly if you have to freeze frame it and look at each individual frame to find a "press out", then it wasn't a press out.
Even if... press out is the stupidest of rules.
Yea they act like me when I was a kid and first got a VCR with frame-advance on it, scrutinizing every pixel* to find guywires or boom mics in the shot in movies
*Lines technically, not pixels. Horizontal resolution is a function of horizontal scan frequency and the display's dot pitch. Whatever, just roll with it
@@nattyfatty6.0Rolling right with it!
Big props to the announcers who stuck by her based on what they witnessed, and not the official ruling
I freaking LOVE it when athletes cry, it’s shows so much on how they are putting their all into it with compassion and love. Happy cries are so inspiring
🥲
Ofcourse. Four years training is not easy especially if your sport is not watched regularly
……… duh
Man... her reaction... such a heart-felt moment! Love it!
This was such a great moment.
Nothing wrong with this lift.
Thank God they will remove the press out rule after the Olympics
Of course it'll do damage to whoever qualifies for the Olympics for 2024...
@@TheFlyingSailorYT Enlighten us how.
The release of the emotion in the beginning, is what’s captivated me about this sport. It’s so amazing.
😢 I almost teared up. That first lift was flawless (could've held it for a second longer but definitely had it). Congratulations. A true win.
#getridofthepressout
This is the correct comment.
i totally agree fuck pressout
I noticed they’ve been more generous this tournament
@@thomasjefferson7652 I'll consider them generous when the pressout rule lameness goes away entirely
I've heard after this Olympics it is being revised
If you have more than 1 judge; there is no need for a jury. Thats why theres 3 lights and not just a single one. The existence of the jury in weightlifting is a joke.
It's like they're admitting that todays judges have no clue what they're doing, which is true but the jury has no clue either. Now you get to have like 6-8 people who've probably never done a C&J in their lives to decide if your lift was good.
Your english makes no sense
@@sallymae5893Made perfect sense to me.

Love watching her lift. She’s a Savage. So happy they made the right call!
That's real K-drama!
Even if you think the pressout rule is good, how is somebody's elbow wiggling a bit a pressout? Most of the redlighted lifts don't even fit their own definitions
That's a hell of a way to test poor Kim Su-hyeon for heart conditions.
(And good for her making it back into the OQR spot!)
This gal is easily one of my favorite ever weightlifters! Congratulations to her and to Seb and Max, fantastic commentary!
Same here
How could the jury get this so wrong? That's so unbelievable....glad the crowd overturned the decision!
this is why replay in sports sucks some times (hello VAR). apparently, for a single frame, they thought they saw instability. My thing is, if you have to do a Frame-by-Frame replay, then your decision is BS.
it was a good lift definitely
Goosebumps/ Great commentary guys working the audience.
Respect for the champ.
Wow! Beautiful brave lift. All that effort for mental toughness as well as physical paying off with that one.
She's such a jolly human being. Always positive. Always good vibes. You just have to be happy for her.
this is so wholesome
Everyone who participated should be so proud ❤
I don’t watch this sport or anything but just seeing her so happy to have achieved what she worked so hard for almost brought a tear to my eye. May we all reach our dreams some day ❤
Really emotional
The judges were paid by north korea 😅
There wasn't a North Korean lifter in the 81's....North Korea doesn't even notice South Korea in weightlifting.... They care more about beating the Chinese....
Yes because nortb korea is a powerful country that can only be compared to mighty china. South korea that is a chewing gum stuck to a shoe, is no match for north korea of kim il sung and kim Kong Un
But not enough, apparently
ba, they where probably all French, for some reason the French suck as officials in most sports.
Congratulations to you Kim suon.. Fighting!

Maybe judges and juries need a physical, optical, and mental exam before being declared of sound mind, eyes, and body to judge an event.
what I hate about Olympic weight lifting is the lock. You have to be blessed with elbows that will pop into place. Mine never did making me a no go lifter.
Literally brought tears to my eyes!
She’s amazing !
The first c&j lift was a press out. However the third attempt wasn't although they seemed similar - it was her body that was angled not her arms (unlike the first when it was her elbow that was bent). Once she stabilised she straightened up. Great lift and I'm happy for her.
Remind me when Her Clean&Jerk Lift on Olympics Tokyo for Bronze Medal was taken away to Bombed Out
Giving everything ya got.
Respect
Good luck in the Olympics ✌️❤️🇳🇿
Amazing!
How did that even get one red
The instability of her shoulders made the lift sus.
But it was definitely a good lift after a review.
@@ea5266I’m guessing it’s a safety thing? There’s no way it’s an illegitimate lift.
@@ea5266 There was no instability, youre blind af
Amazing. Congratulations!
Good to see that audience was not having it on that BS call! Well done Kim Su-hyeon!
Got me emotional too damn ! Beautiful
Have these 'juries' ever lifted weight in their fucking life? They're looking for a robot, not a human.
lovely. simply lovely
Wonderful. Deserved spot in the Olympics. This Competition is clearly a huge drama.
what an emotional rollercoaster !
Good for her. She earned the spot no doubt.
Great job Ms. Kim !!!
im happy for her
Good lift. She seems like a great person. Always fun to watch. Happy for her.
Our country's first ever Olympic gold medal came from weightlifting. Hidilyn Diaz made it happen. I felt the hardship she's been through and deserves that spot.❤
Congrats👏👏👏
Im so happy for her
잘했어요!
When she cried i wanted to cry with her 🥺
She's a beast! Good for her.
Officials in all walks of life have become arbitrary and capricious to an awful degree.
Their voices were heard. Congratulations to Kim
I'm crying....
I was a little confused at the clip being shown at the beginning, I'm like 'stop crying girl, you got a job to do!' lol. After seeing it at the end, I was like 'oh that makes a lot more sense.'
Good 👍 for her CHEERING 👏 ❤️ FOR YOU SOUTH KOREA 🇰🇷 👏 GOD BLESS
congratulations Suhyeon
whats the point of those lights if there is a jury that overrules it?
The jury was dumb there, shes fully extended and litterally walking with the weight yet they still was gonna say she did not lift right, Jury Is Blind
Congrats to her!
when she did the lift u play it frame by frame it wasn't her elbows it was her leg that made the bar seem tilted but. When she corrects her footing the bar goes straight but. Her arms never move and where locked once she got the bar above her head.
I am a competing strongman and man do these lifters impress me so much, how clean and effortless they make these huge weights look, and it saddens me when you get such petty judges /jurys that lift was 100 percent clean
Cant wait for the Olympic!
Good job momma 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💯
You would think weight lifting, of all sports, wouldn't have judgment calls like this.
Born 1995 (age 29) Weight class 76 kg
The look on her face was a joy to see
The entire premise of the jury is nonsense. Why have judges if you have people that will just step in and say "nahh fam". Just beyond stupid.
Go Korea. Canada is rooting for you.
good lift great job
I'm leaning to the hypothesis that sport juries and referees are overcrowded with very envious people.
Left her coach hanging so hard
Those judges should be banned for life
This is like the 100m in slow motion and I'm here for all of it.
Good for her! Yay!.
That was awesome. Got something in my eye...
Hope she does well .
Oh thank god they didn't change the decision. That would have been absolutely brutal.
Good for her!!!!
Rumor has it, it's the same judges from the Garcia and Haney fight 😂
The judges need some new eyeballs
It’s was a good lift. So what if she moved to the left a bit. As long as her elbows didn’t move and her lift was even that is all that matters.
First one was red, it was pressing.
But the third wasn't even a single red, it was shaky but clean.
Why was the 140 kg refused initially ?
When are they gonna get rid of the press out rule
Good for her.
I don't understand the pressout rule. If anything it should be harder to press that kind of weight than jerking it?
Yeah well, you could use an extra up and down motion to get an otherwise impossible weight over your head if the rule wasn't enforced at all. An Olympic lift must maintain the aesthetics and very high technical difficulty or else become as ugly as P*werlifting or even Strong Man.
@@AlbionSupremeSome of those powerlifting forms are ridiculous I agree. Strong man isn’t bad though…
Who the hell was that no.3 jury?
Wow that made me cry.lol
So what happened?
