Loved your film. I live in Nantwich and it is truly a wonderful place to reside. So many places to eat, drink and walk. Glad you enjoyed it. The church is simply magnificent. Please come again 😊
Thank you for your kind words! We absolutely adore Nantwich. It's such a charming town with delightful spots to explore. The church was indeed breathtaking! We'd love to visit again soon ❤
Great video, I lived in Nantwich for 33 years, just a stones throw from the Black Lion. It used to have a lot more pubs, 36 infact from a one mile radius of the cenotaph, the Queen of Diamonds, Red Lion, The Rifleman, The Royal Oak …etc. Welsh Row has actually been trodden by Oliver Cromwell himself, Nantwich was a pivotal battle in our civil war and is renacted yearly by the sealed knot, last week in January. Where you were eating cake was once the grounds of Nantwich Castle. I miss my town now and then. It was really something in the 70/80/90 but lost a little charm with the incessant need for housing, greedy Southerners snapping up property and the link up with Crewe…. Yuk
What a great place to grow up! We can't wait to get back there. So fascinating to hear about Oliver Cromwell, we hadn't heard that piece of history before.
It's so nice to see you enjoying these small country towns which rarely figure in the tourist itinerary. There's scarcely any town in Britain that cannot trace its roots back to the Domesday Book, if not to the Romans, and there's just as much to see and do without the crowds and expense of the tourist traps.
Thanks for enjoying it with us! We love finding these little towns and love learning the history even more. Let us know if you have any recommendations for us!
@@AndrewandMegan There are a whole raft of them not far away in the Peak District: Eyam, Hathersage, Buxton, Castleton, Bakewell and Matlock Bath. Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire is worth a look too, as are Skipton and Grassington. Halifax is an often-overlooked place as well, with some fine architecture, as is the city of Kingston upon Hull which has some superb museums and galleries. Have you got a lifetime to spare?
@@davidjones332 😂 Sounds like we are just going to have to move here then! Thanks for the good start, we’ll have to see if we cross through any of these while we’re here!
Glad you enjoyed our little market town, with many Tudor buildings and a lot of history, food festival in September, different restaurants and cuisines, Greek restaurant probably the best and Italian. Jazz festival during Easter. Halloween event in October. There’s also a Snugburrys in Chester, by the river. Boathouse restaurant which also have in Shrewsbury. Hickory’s Smokehouse American food, Brazilian steakhouse also in Chester Where you guys from?
We’ll be back in August so we’ll keep all of these suggestions saved! Thanks! We did get to try the Greek restaurant and agree, it was delicious! We’re from Florida, US.
Awesome I like Florida too, I lived in San Antonio and Dallas, Texas. Nantwich river Weaver walk down to Nantwich lake also nice too. Shrewsbury or Chester your best bet next
Strange to see my local town pop up on TH-cam.. you did a really nice job! Nantwich does have some interesting history (romans, fire and bears .. yes really) maybe do the museum next visit 🍺🍻
Thank you! And yes we did hear about the bear fighting... Wild! Hadn't heard about the Roman history, so we will certainly stop by the museum next time we're visiting - thank you for the suggestion!
I live like 8 miles from there beautiful place. And its only a small town too. My town, Winsford is even smaller but once had 19 pubs on the same 2 mile long road.
Yes, there are buses that run from Middlewich Road/Alvaston Hall Hotel into Nantwich. You might have to want to check the local bus schedules for the most up-to-date information though. Enjoy your stay at Alvaston Hall and your time in Nantwich!
Little hidden gems like Nantwich are the best! The touristy stuff is fun too, but can sometimes get overwhelming if too crowded. Loved this charming place! That canal looks like one that Kara and Nate shared on their youtube channel just a couple weeks ago, I wonder if they went through there :-) you guys should definitely try renting a narrowboat! Great vlog as always!! 🤗👍
Thank you for your absolutely wonderful video of my local town!. soooo very respectful and appreciative of the simplest but beautiful things. Its given me great heart and encouragement as regards the American people..they often get such bad rep- but a couple like yourselves really know how to embrace the totally different culture and are clearly very intelligent . Big respect Andrew for taking on the left hand driving culture...and even a roundabout! hahaaa! Would love to meet you and show you many other gems in the locality..if you are ever back please get in touch and I would love to be your guide for a few days!
What a lovely comment! Thank you for enjoying this with us. Truly one of our favorite towns. We'll be back a little later this year and always love having a local guide!
Lovely Video - Thanks for sharing. I was born in Nantwich, but left many years ago, and if you thought it was nice now - you should have seen it in the 1960s!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. It must have been amazing to experience Nantwich in the 1960s. We'd love to hear more about what it was like back then. It's always fascinating to learn how places have changed over the years. Thanks again for sharing!
@@AndrewandMegan It was a lot smaller back then; many of the shops had been there since the 1920s and 1930s (run by the same people!) Very old-fashioned. (quaint) Much smaller population, and everybody knew everybody; you couldn’t walk through the town without many saying ‘hello’, because even if you didn’t know them personally (many you did) they would know you by ‘sight’ and speak. Most people who lived in Nantwich back then had been born there too, and we were called 'Dabbers'. Now, if you’ve only lived there a short time you’re considered a 'Dabber’, but you had to have been born there to be called a true Dabber back in those days. 🙂
@@nintendy Wow, thank you for sharing so much. That's so interesting to learn! It sounds like such a charming place to live, which is excitedly one of the feelings that we still get now, however, it seems like it was even greater then!
Great review thanks I accept thanks as a dabber (person born in Nantwich) you should try Shrewsbury too it’s breathtaking a bigger version of Nantwich a city that isn’t a city even though it has a cathedral x
Thanks for watching and Shrewsbury sounds intriguing, especially with its similarities to Nantwich. We'll be visiting again in the autumn, so we appreciate the recommendation!
Thank you! Sometimes we housesit when we’re traveling and landed a housesit in your town! We love it because we get to hang out with the best animals while getting to know places that would have otherwise not been on our list to see.
Yes, Euston Station London, to Crewe at least two trains every hour and more. Nantwich is from Platform 7 and is the first stop, which takes less than 10 min-heading for South Wales and Shrewsbury.
Have you actually been to Chester which is not that far away. With the only intake Roman city wall in the whole of the British isles. Plus the second most photographed clock after Big Ben.
Absolutely! We walked the Roman Walls and had lunch on the Chester Cathedral grounds. Neither one of us knew about the clocks fame, but we definitely snapped a pic of it. Hope to visit again soon and spend a bit more time
This is my hometown, ive traveled the world and i have tried to explain how beautiful Nantwich is but like they say there is no place like home so i massively biased. Chatwins rules btw
Fully agree, virtually every village, town or city in just England let alone the other countries in the uk have medieval churches unless they are new towns built in the last 200 years.

You should go to nearby Roman Chester and Shrewsbury too, home of Charles Darwin

London to Newport and then Newport to Nantwich is the cheapest route.

try northumberland ,sea houses lindisfarne holy island all steeped in history and castles and churches
Sounds like our kind of place! Thanks for the recommendation!
Where's the next leg of the tour?
We have some adventures from the Scottish Lowlands coming soon!
Weird see Americans gasp over our churches. We have so many beautiful, old churches that it doesn't feel that special.
