was awesome meeting you at SMRRF and talking about whats coming next, cherishing my nickel plated benchy pin forever
I love it
Awesome job on all counts! Thank you for sharing!
That was a great idea for business cards. Nice work, and love how flawless they always turn out. Well done!
Great idea. Thanks for all your help getting into electroforming. I have been successful in copper plating a crow skull and can't wait to do more. Still working on my rotary jig.
Amazing work, would love to try it myself!
Amazing work!
Awesome job, man - once again!
Thanks, man!
that is so much fun !
Wow! That was so satisfying to watch! One day I’ll electroplate something and I’ll rewatch this ❤🎉 Merry Christmas my friend!🎄🎁
Merry Christmas to you, too! 🙂
nice work always a pleasure watching ur videos ☺
Bro that’s awesome tut!
Amazing work, will try it myself! Love your stuff.
Thank you!
Great Video as usual :)
I have one of these! Was great talking to you at SMRF!
Beautiful work, as always!
I'm such a fan of copper - it's such an incredible-looking metal. 😀
Copper is my favorite 😃
Thank you, that was very helpful indeed! :)
awesome!!!!
That is awesomeness 🎉
Awesome work as always ! You helped me greatly with the plating in the past and I can't thank you enough for that !!!
My next project is to electroplate a gunpla, I think that could give a cool result. Small pieces though, gotta be precise doing it
Someday I’ll get into electroplating based on your videos and details to safety. Thank You. HAPPY CHRISTMAS 🎄
merry xmas to you, too!
@@hen3drik Thank You
I was wondering if you could go into detail on your sanding & polishing methods? A video outlining your methods to prepare for electroplating would be invaluable. Your models turn out perfectly and I would love to see your techniques!
Great timing on this video! I recently started a project to electroplate some chess pieces. They're all coated with graphite paint and ready to plate, though I am a bit worried the finer details (such as the mane on the knight) might get lost in the process.
It was fantastic to finally meet you in person at #SMRRF and to get to see these too!
You gave me a Benchy pin, it was so beautifully made and I wore it with pride, but I was sad to find I had lost it by the end of day 2 - I just had the pin!
However you have absolutely inspired me to do this myself by showing this super clean process - I want to make my own Star Trek commbadge among other things - even non 3D printed items!
Hi alex, yeah, that "glue" was kind of bad. We'll meet again and i'll get you another one. Cheers!
@@hen3drik I'd love that, and if it's at #SMRRF2 I hope it will be a swap for something I've made ;)
As if not going to SMRRF wasn’t bad enough in itself 😅 Great work again!
Love your stuff. Hoping to get into this kind of thing after Christmas. Those would be cool rewards for 1st / 2nd / 3rd place in some contest :P Especially if the Copper one was Bronzed instead (Nickel is close enough to silver :P)
Fantastic work. What copper conductive paint do you use for these?
Heftig 😮 mehr sog I ned 👌👌
I really enjoy your series and rebuilding my cellar just to create a nice lineup for 3d printing. Keep going man your videos are great. looking forward to the next ones.
I have skipped the video at 7:42 then used my smartphone to scan that QR code, then it show the link to your youtube channel!!!! Aha!
The video helped a lot. 4:01 It looks like your 5n11 filter was inserted upside down.
Hi, another great video and I very much like your idea as a business card prop. Unfortunately we can't get copper paint here, so I decided to make my own. By reducing CuSO4 using Ascorbic acid (VitaminC). Wash, filter and dry. I tried it in water based polyurethane and solvent based nail polish lacquer. Both are good but dispersion and suspension are way better with the nail polish. Results are < 1ohm/cm unpolished thin coat.
Oh, yes, this works pretty well, I did that some years ago, but you need so much Ascorbic acid. Yet the nano copper is pretty nice.
Really wish there was an affordable option for conductive paint here in the USA. That Tifoo brand unfortunately is EU only. The products I have found here is 2 or 3 times as expensive for tiny bottles of paint.

Youre elite! Is there a brand of copper paint you prefer? I hope I can get it in the US. Thanks!
wouldnt it be even easier creating the hole in the model before printing for the copper wire?
what copper paint do you use ?
You are the best! Can you plate for me my small project?! Your pricing? 🤩🤩🤩
Hello! tell more about the brightener please
do it again and put them all on a christmas tree!
Moin Moin :) Schonmal vorweg, sehr geile videos. Weiter so!
Nun eine kleine Frage:
Welche art Draht nutzt du zum Galvanisieren?
Ich habe einen relativ dünnen Draht genommen und der ist mir durchgerostet und abgefallen im Prozess.
Vielen Dank schonmal im voraus :_)
Moin, Kupferdraht verwenden. 0.2 für die feinleitungen 0.8 für das dicke.
How noticeable is the little bit of unplated copper wire on the corner of the stern? Did you (or would you recommend us to) go over that spot with the electrolytic pen using nickel and then gold? Or does it secretly look really good?
It’s actually barely noticeable. 😅
Have you ever tried electroplating wood? I think it would be sick having the structure of the wood with a thin layer of metal on top of it
No, but yes, that would look amazing
Hello, first of all I would like to congratulate you for your work and the wonders you do, I was watching all your videos and I see that you have very large tanks, and I wonder if smaller tanks for the bathroom (just the size of the piece) would work, And if not, why? Thank you very much in advance
Smaller teams will do. More distance to the object from the anode is better. Try 1l
Thank you very much for your response, I will try it.@@hen3drik
Nice, whats your conductive paint of choice
Diluted conductive copper paint.
Can you make a video showing how to make your own conductive paint?
There already is one: th-cam.com/video/TlD9USAhcEs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=SFzn8aYjmG_qL8po
My favourite part of the video is when he said "It's metal coating time!" and then metal coated benchies all over the place :)
What is brand/type of conductive paint you are using?!?!
Hello. Wich paint has used before of proceces?
Hi Hendrik, is it possible to electroplate ABS or ASA parts after they are smoothed with acetone vapour or is it better to sand it like other materials?
Ou can vapoursmooth it but it will only make the surface smooth and not even (which is needed for a mirror finish)
Hello, my name Hugo, I'm from Brazil. I have knowledge in electroplating and 3D printing, but I don't know this metallization process. I have 2 questions. Do you use any special resins in 3D printing? Where can I buy this metalizing paint?
does copper metal pigments+acetone works for electroplanting?
I love accents and yours is the pinnacle of a german speaking english with hard german accent
How much does the electroplating effect the weight of the prints? I'm assuming they're still noticeably lighter than a solid-metal counterpart, but do they still get any noticeable increase in weight from just the plating?
Yes, it’s exactly like this. The smaller the print the more noticeable.
Do you have any thoughts on where might be best to try and recycle your electroplating fluid?
Let it dry in the sun.
Can you please make Kirito's sword "Elucidator"🙏 from SAO
@her3drik Do you have any links to the electrolyte solutions? I can never find a solution that is as bright as yours without sanding the b'jesus out of them.
Das sieht nach sehr viel Spaß aus 🥹
Bietest du auch online Kurse an?
Ach und ich würde mich Mega über so einen pin in chrome Silber freuen 🥹😍
Does the dippable conductive paint have a shelf life once you've mixed it
I think not. Still using this to date.
3:51 - Heh!
Do you just fill the residue water into old PET bottles and take them to the recycling center? I have the impression like you would collect a whole bunch of contaminated water doing just a few prints and I'm curious about the logistics.
That’s what I basically do. In summer I let the water evaporate.
Hello! I have a question. How do you avoid the wire contact marks around de electroplated pieces? Do you constantly change, during the electroplating process, the wire position that envolves the piece? I am trying electroplating at home and I can't deal with that issue. Congrats for you work!!
I try to avoid any wire contact on visible areas once I formed a light hull. Moving can help but will eventually create even more marks.
@@hen3drik thanks for your answer! The idea of changing position is to promote more metal deposit where the marks are formed. Then I could have enough thickness to sand and remove that marks. But I will try put the wires with less contact.
Hello. What is the name of the spray you need to put on 3d prints so that the galvanizing works? Thanks
How would you know how much current to use if you were working with plastic pieces that are of different sizes? I'd like to try your method with plastic scale models
Calculate the surface (doing math) and create a sum
@@hen3drik thanks so much!
Hello! I would like to ask for your help. The process produces a matt copper layer on the surface rather than a shiny one, what am I doing wrong?
Wrong current / wrong electric field (too close?) / rough conductive paint layer
@@hen3drik Please can you give me a contact where I can send you pictures?
Awesome job. It would be very interesting to see the area where the wire was attached to the benches after you cut it. Do you process the touch point?
I don’t, I just snip them
Wait why wouldn't you print all the benchies already on the branches? Saves you lots of wire work
I actually thought of that 😅
@@hen3drik nice! Did you try it? Would make the whole process so much more scalable!
What is the weight of your gold anode?
It‘s not a gold anode, it’s a chrome free stainless steel anode.
how about 1 part 100 times?
5:07 wait, this can't be right! I think what you mean is 0.7 µm?
Oh, yeah. That’s a typo. 😅 of course it’s 0.7micrometers! Thanks
@@hen3drik Nice tie though 😁 Thanks for the great video!
@@hen3drikI'm having a hard time with my paints I have tried copper paint as well as Graphite paint. It just doesn't seem to work out for me.
Any advice?
Siger du mojn i starten ?
I do 😉
Omg, calibrate your Y axis
You mean Z? Tell me how.
@@hen3drik It was a joke - all the benchies are squished in the Y axis xd
@@bzqp2 oh… I’m stupid 🤣
