Thank you. This was everything I needed to know about my issue. Very helpful vedio. I could not find a mobile welder to do what you did. So I drilled two small holes around the ball and capped it with silicone like the 2018 Honda accord head plug
Does the leak from the Oil Galley Plug indicate a bad Cyclinder head? Otherwise what is the purpose of it? Also is that Oil Galley plug located behind power steering pump? I can’t tell if my leak is the galley plug, timing cover or both. Was thinking of sealing the galley plug with Pematex to see if leaking stops. Thanks in advance!
6:20 can you put a link on where you got the timing diagram also how much did that welder charge you to cover that ball and how long did it take for you to complete the job I got 19 tacoma mines hasn't leaked yet but I'm already freaking out lol
Technically yes, you would have to unbolt the engine mounts and put a hanger on the top of the engine to lift off the mounts. The oil pan has to come off to remove timing cover and oil pan cannot come out in car without lifting engine up to gain clearance. Toyota repair manual says remove engine. So you can make that call with whatever you feel comfortable with.
Nice work documenting the out-of-vehicle repair steps. Did the engine clear everything (radiator, unbolted/hanging compressor, firewall overhang, etc) when you pulled it out or was it a bear to remove? While welding is better, aluminum welding is not in my skill set. I was thinking epoxy would be fine for the oil galleries. Thoughts?
I am in a pickle, I just got my 2018 v6 trd sport and the technician found a leak from the timing cover and/or Gaskets that was quoted at $6821.61😂💀 In total i was quoted 10,071.94 with some more “issues” they found btw. Absolutely ridiculous prices

i have 2017 highlander hybrid. can i be able to change timing cover reseal by having engine on the car..
I am not sure, sorry.
So if the ball bearing wasn't leaking the job could have been done with the engine in the truck?

@tonpear5909 engine came out ok, I believe it was a little snug getting it out. Epoxy may work. Not sure though. Thank you

Wow that is a high price, it is a big job with a lot of labor. Maybe go for a second opinion. My shop does free second opinions.
