The best teacher is the one that admits mistakes so others can learn.
If anything I respect you even more Mr Sorin.
BTW it happened to me with a charging controller also on a lenovo board, I thought everything was correct and then it blew, it's always a pain to see money get away like that.
Best regards Sorin you are awesome, thanks for the lesson.

    Lesson no ; 1
when you order a repair parts order 2pcs same time ,
    lesson no ; 2
use a manul methode for sio replacements ,
use a typical micro solder iron with about 380 celcius ,
do not use high pemeprature for sio pins
    ,
( This 2nd advice not for sorin , it is for newer students )

I feel your pain! Making a mistake, even a very basic one is a very important lesson, I have made plenty. Thanks for the video, I have to do a dry joint repair on a keyboard controller IC. It should be simple but I am very nervous (never tried it before). Your video was very helpful on soldering techniques and dealing with problems.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us. I learned so much. Also learned from your mistake. Thanks for sharing that also. I would have done the short circuit test right after removing the super I/O chip. But also, even before removing the chip, I would have removed the smaller part, and then test again for short circuit.

Hello mr Sorin, i made the same mistake a few days ago,i even asked you in a video if i inject tensoin in middle pin i could damage something, and now i realize i could. When i did that i didn´t realize the middle pin wasn´t plus. Now i also have a Lenovo with a Super IO burned. First the fallt was only a short in 19v mosfets, that i was able to repair, than the 3.3v power rail was shorted, and i realize the Super IO has a hole,or burned mark.

Hi Sorin, thank you very much for your lesson, they are very helpful for we people from Africa. Now I need your help, I have a dead motherboard, when the charger is plugged in, the power button LED comes on. I think it's shorted somewhere. The LED should come on only while the power button is pressed. I checked all the power supplies, they are good, I have 19 V. Could you please help me to diagnose what is the issue?

I am trying to learn motherboard repair. Could you get a desktop motherboard that is dead and show the trouble shooting it clear from what to plug in just to get started. I know that this would take a few videos, considering you would have to explain why you went there next and what you should find if it was working to what if it is wrong, where else to go and so on. Thanks for your videos. I purchased 10 broken pins boards from ebay to learn to replace the 1151 sockets and trouble shoot. Gigabite won't even sell me a service manual so that I can try to learn!!! Thanks again.

if that last chip connected to the charging port was removed prior to the mistake of touching the middle pin with 19volts, i guess the super i/o could have a better chance of surviving because of the turn of events.. haha .. or better test for some shorts in the circuits after removing the i/o then putting the new one.. just saying from my expirience.. a broken relationship is as difficult to fix like a bad motherboard..
