Can't blame the car as much as the owner!! You know there was no oil on the dipstick. Kia andHyndai suck but low oil is the owners bad maintenance plan. Not keeping an eye on things!!
Older Chrysler 2.4s were related. Also the transmissions. I dropped a 6 speed trans out of Jeep Patriot and noticed Hyundai and Kia symbols on the torque converter. Like you said hit or miss.
I sold new Kias from 2001-2003 and they were just about the level of build and material of a side by side. The Rio that was $12,000 new, when traded in with 50,000 miles on it would only bring $500 at the dealers auctions. That being said, even if it burns oil the owners need to check the oil every fuel fill-up. I guess it's a shame a new car have to keep quarts of oil in trunk like other brands with 200k miles on them.
I've got a 2018 Hyundai Sonata Sport 2.0t. I bought it brand new and religiously change my own oil at 4500-5000 miles max. Zero issues, doesn't burn a thing.
Lmao Anthony Nastasi was also talking about how they’re complete garbage also on one of his video’s not to long ago for having one in his shop. The funny thing is,is you can look at someone trashing a product about how bad it is and say to yourself “ok he’s probably trashing it cause he had a bad experience with one or just not a fan of it” However when every popular small shop mechanic on youtube,All get one in their shop to work on and talk about how complete garbage they are…..You know then they are complete garage it’s not just a coincidence 😂
I remember seeing Hyundai Excels in the right lane on the highway running along with a constant trail of blue smoke billowing from the tail pipe. Old habits die hard.
My Ex girlfriend had a 2009 Hyundai Accent that did the same thing. Total piece of trash that car was. I refused to drive it because the lack of power was dangerous. A collision with anything other than a pothole would have been fatal in that car.
How many miles on that car and what is the service history of it ? I pumped gas and checked oil levels at a charity event. Almost 1 out of 2 were low on oil. Some showing no oil at all on the dipstick. I suggested topping up the oil right there but all declined. They said service station oil was too high priced. What I'm saying is, it might not be the fault of the car.
Just checked the oil on my 130,000 mile 2013 sonata hybrid and after 3000 miles it's still full. The 08 elantra I gave my son in 2020 does not burn oil either at 200,000 miles.
I have the engine prior to the GDI engine. My Elantra has 440,000 miles with no major work, trans included. I change the oil at 3000 miles and the trans oil at 30,000 miles.
You are assuming that the Valvoline oil change place actually put the correct amount of oil back in. We also don't know how long ago that any service was actually done. Oil is cheap. Engines are expensive. You can replace whichever you want. Checking oil every now and then is not THAT difficult, nor is it expensive to add some every now and then if necessary. I can R&R an engine in some Hyundai/Kias in about 7 hours. They don't have ball joints that go to crap. They don't have transmissions that go to crap. They don't have mode door or blend door motors that go to crap. They aren't notorious for oil leaks They aren't expensive from the beginning. Maintenance is cheap. Fuel economy is quite good. They don't have cam phasers that rattle like a mo fo. They don't have fuel pumps that die easily. I've owned a small handful Hyundai / Kias over the decades. I'll take one of these over most US domestic vehicles. My latest one is a 2015 Soul and I got it cheap because it was mis-diagnosed as needing a new engine. The high pressure fuel pump was physically broken. It runs and drives great.
Hey Rich, don't hold back, tell us how you really feel. LOL J/K, bud. But yeah, down a couple of quarts of oil at least and NO WARNING? That is freaking crazy! Those manufacturers need to get their act together real quick and stop selling garbage.
Hey Rich, I have a 2004 Honda Civic 225k miles and change the oil every 3k miles. Just shorten the interval everything will be all right. It’s not like gas is 3 bucks a gallon. And steak is 16 bucks a pound. Great channel.
My wife's 2018 Santa Fe Sport had that exact 2.4 engine. I religiously changed that oil every 4,000 miles, didn't even wait 5,000. Also I replaced the PCV valve every other oil change and never burned oil. But having said that, we just recently got rid of it simply because it was getting up in the miles (around 90,000) and I know these engines are ticking time bombs.
My neighbor has a 2016. I personally like the care but it has the same trash engine! Another neighbor has a 2019. Same trash! Burning oil and spark plugs crazy!
one problem with hyundia is fuel dilution. Because of it you need to change oil more often. Like between 1000 to 3000 miles! Then at least you have a chance the engine might last, until your done with it.
My son has 2013 veloster that had turbo fail and somehow blew all oil out exhaust. Oil light never came on. Only way he knew a problem was all the people honking at him. Good thing still under warranty. Bad thing.,he was informed had to wait 3 months for motor because of similar issues with other Hyundai with same problem. He managed to talk dealer into loaner for couple months. During that time he got his motorcycle back on road.
Lol! It's like lipstick on a pig Rich! Appearances are deceiving and i've told countless owners to beware of your engine. Look for recalls and signs of problems mechanically! Just yesterday i was just behind a Hyundai SUV. Puffs of white smoke coming out of the tailpipe. He was parking in Meijer lot where i was going. Went up the guy and told him to "better get your vehicle check because i can smell coolant coming out of that tailpipe!" He was apprecitive but by the look on his face, he didn't want to believe me.
Those Theta II engines are garbage. I’m on my second one….AND I change the oil every 4-5k with quality synthetic oil. SUV is paid off so keep it until warranty is up then bye bye. A shame, it’s a beautiful SUV that drives great. Our second Sorento. Reason is the first one my wife got rammed by a asshole that ran a red light. Car beyond totaled. She walked away.
I do love that quick access to the oil pan feature. I had a new ford mustang Mach E in today for an alignment, of course the entire underside is covered in shields BUT ford thought ahead and in the rear underneath both rear toe adjustments they put a little cover with 3 10mm bolts, I was tickled pink lol. Tesla is the absolute worst, it is an absolute battle to remove the giant rear undershield to get to the adjustments. And then you have range rovers that put massive metal shields under the car that you gotta remove like 3 giant panels with 38 bolts just to get to the oil pan, absolutely ridiculous
My daily driver since 2018, bought with 30K. 2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring. 213,000 miles. changed oil every 3K. tranny 60K. Burns less than a pint at 2500 miles. Great car. I'd buy another if I could find one with low miles.
They KIA's (the newer models) also have *issues with the electronics taking over* the speed & making it impossible to slow down or ST🚫P! I watched an ENTIRE *911 VIDEO* about a poor woman that it happened to while she was driving (with a FULL tank of gas) and couldn't slow down....the speed just kept accelerating & was out of her control...she was scared to death...she had to get HELP with several *State Troopers* riding in front & behind her at speeds of *OVER 100 MILES PER HOUR* to protect other traffic drivers/tractor trailers on the highways & alerting the roadways ahead of her while crossing over State lines! Nothing worked, NOT even trying to slowly pull up on the EMERGENCY brake to slow it down. (The Key fob was in her purse in the back seat, and she obviously couldn't reach it, without taking both hands off of the steering wheel, so that was NOT an option) She even asked the 911 operator that stayed on the phone with her the entire time, to have somebody call her husband to say her last goodbyes...it was INTENSE! They were finally able to find someone to somehow guide her on how to "crash" safely and was able to help save her life! After watching that video, I made sure my niece bought an older 4-Runner with a REAL KEY ignition! I hope this HELPS anyone who sees this comment! EV's (made by these companies other than TESLA) are NOT the future in my Honest Opinion! In fact, I wouldn't buy one anyway, because my trusted mechanic told me, if an EV catches on FIRE...it can't be put out, they don't do well in COLD temperatures, and even if they do last, the cost to get a NEW battery at some point in time is ASTRONOMICAL!
Rich, the story above was a *2011 KIA SORENTO SUV* that got the accelerator stuck at 120MPH You can literally look up the 911 CALL, its almost 40 minutes long!
We've been very happy with our 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe, 3.8L V6 naturally aspirated, original owners with 117K miles. It burns no oil between 5K changes and I check the dip stick regularly. Everything on it still works, engine and transmission are still strong. Ours is in Phoenix, so rust isn't an issue and we don't thrash it so it still looks relatively new. I do have a catch can on it that captures about 1 teaspoon every two months. I have the intake port cleaning done at the dealer every 15K miles and I've never missed a 5K synthetic oil change. All work done at the dealer on time....and I believe that's the key....at least for our car. But our engine doesn't seem to have the problems that all of the other Hyundai engines have. The one thing I don't like is the sheet metal is soda can thin compared to my Crown Vic, this Hyundai picks up dents just from someone looking at it too hard.
I dont understand how air doesnt go around that filter with how easy that slides in. They have that big change in direction that should knock some of the particles to the bottom. Its like a furnace filter design that just catches big stuff
imagine working for the dealer and everything is warranty. hardly any customer pay. and when there is, nobody wants anything done bc our labor rate was $180 an hr. meanwhile we had pep boys, midas, etc across the street stealing our work. about time the 10 yr/100K warranty is up it’s time for the crusher if it lasts that long
I hear you rich. Some of my friends have some Hyundai/Kia products and every single one has been nothing but a P.O.S. Firstly a 2020 Kia Soul with 35k miles, engine blew up due to lack of oil (covered under warranty), and then 2 months later the transmission blew up on a road trip. 2015 Sonata 2.4 with 70k miles uses a quart of oil every 1500 miles. 2018 Tucson 2.0 with 40k miles uses a quart every 1500 miles. I’m glad they have extended the warranty on these cars but I cannot believe how trash they are. I believe these Kia/Hyundais are some of the worst cars on the road. Sure, the rest of the vehicles aren’t horrible, but the stuff that counts like the engines are absolute junk.
And yeah its a oil burner but nothing like the kia 2.4 my sister got hers replaced at 72k miles for free she noe has 160 not burning any so maybe the replacemwnt engines are ok
PLEASE 🙏 HELP .. !! Rich .. i watched a million oil YTV trying to find an answer to 1 question: What is the best oil for N/A V8 port injection engine [ GX460] !!??? and im NOT following recommendations of 10 K oci new car (i did early oc ) and TGMO formula changed [ horrible new mix] again ... PLEASE 🙏 help with advice if you can rate 1st 2nd 3rd choice !!! calls for 0w-20 .. im sorry to be off subject here but folks who followed 10k oci ended up in trouble (bad uoa early / burning oil later!) DESPITE the legendary reputation of that engine !! thank you
And my 1.6L Blue oval Chooches along @214K miles, strong as ever getting me where I need to go with minimal maintenance. Timing belt @ 180K (Yeah I know that was a stretch, But it was not that bad) Plugs @ 150K and they were not worn beyond use. No oil consumption to speak of. Yep the door pull failed because someone abused it (Pisses me off it's an entire panel replacement item...), it needs a purge valve and blend door actuator @ 200K. But for a 16K car that's 10 years old it will still beat the crap of anything Hyundai or KIA is putting out on the market. The original clutch seems fine at this point also (Probably just put my foot in my mouth as I usually put it into the Take off and shifting...) Be well Rich and all my gearhead Brothers✌
Totally off subject but I’m looking to buy a 1997 grand marquis fully loaded 70k original miles really clean 1 owner there asking 2500 but my question is this is it a good car
My engine on my 2007 Tucson looks like new compared to this one that doesn't look takin care of . Mine is a 2.8 but when you get parts they claim it to be a 2.7... Strange
Fyi. Most if not all kia/ Hyundai do not have low oil indicators. They have low oil pressure indicators. And by that time the light comes on it too late. Check your oil often like you should with any vehicle. And change every 3750 miles on a gdi engine. Fuel dilution is your enemy with these motors. And 8 to 10 k oil changes kill them.
MY 92 COROLLA AT 300k MILES BURNS ABOUT 1/4 QUART EVERY 3000 MILES. RECENTLY DID A HEAD GASKET AND I FILLED THE CYLINDERS WITH DIESEL AND SOAKED IT FOR ABOUT A WEEK. NOW, IT DOES NOT BURN OIL OR MAKE THE OIL BLACK! I CAN STILL READ THE MARKS ON DIPSTICK EVEN AFTER 2000 MILES OLD OIL. THIS IS A GOOD METHOD TO LOOSEN STUCK PISTON RINGS!
The owners need to take responsibility. Korean cars suck. You need to baby them from day one. 3K oil change, no redline/neutral drops. Drive like you're old, like me. It's your only chance. Do all scheduled maintenance early. Good luck.
Would anything help these engines run longer and not burn oil? Maybe 3,000 mile OCI or are they doomed from the first mile to eventually consume the lifeblood of an engine?
lots of youtube videos about the engine. supposedly the engine has design issues. but don't quote me. i think that the enginefor the car in the video *might* be covered by a lifetime warranty because of a lawsuit settlement.
Almost all GDI engines without the added fuel injectors have these issues. -The high 40,000 psi fuel injection (2 stage, 2nd stage is high pressure) pushes fuel past the rings, gets into motor oil and evaporates out thru PCV valve and is inserted into combustion again. = Lots of extra carbon deposits compared to a non-GDI (only) engine. =Stay away from GDI (high fuel pressure) engines.
Ours burns 3.5 quarts per interval sometimes more. No help from Hyundai. 2019 Tucson with the 2.4. Junk. Hyundai says it's fine and doesn't knock so no replacement.
Valvoline Restore and Protect motor oil to get the carbon off the rings and a better seal. Change out at 3k miles and then slowly move closer to 4k/5k. Fuel in oil and you will need to change more than 3k miles.
Sure, you can get lucky and get a Hyundai/Kia that will not break down just as you can get unlucky and get a lemon Toyota, but the law of averages says to stay away from Hyundai/Kia. I've never met a mechanic who recommends them. I'm not sure why they're so popular. Are they really that much cheaper than a Toyota?
I had a 2016 Kia sorento 2.0 turbo with 102 K on it here in AZ that ran fantastic for three years, the oil was changed faithfully every three thousand then just suddenly it died and had to be towed to a mechanic, he found that the rod bearings were shot and it needed a new engine, luckily and 'rarely' the Kia dealership verified every thing and Kia is putting a brand new engine in it 'for free', but I now do not trust it, so I bought a Toyota Rav 4 hybrid and I will sell the POS Kia as soon as it is done !!!
Honestly is best policy everyone has different experiences. But like interrogation you don’t take just one or two pieces of information you take many to form an educated opinion 👍🏻👊🏻. If 90% say its detritus then it’s detritus
Add 2023 Chevy 5.3 to the extreme oil usage engines. P.D. where I work switched over from PIU to Tahoe. 8 vehicles use at least 2 quarts of oil before 1st Oil Change at 3000 miles. Hope Plugs and Cats are easy to change - I see myself spending time swapping out those parts. Come On Man Do Better.
Not defending kia/hyundai one bit because yes they have plenty of garbage vehicles and engines. That being said I do own a 2018 Kia forte 2.0L non gdi with a 6 speed manual and its been great to me, simple to work on and doest burn any oil after going 8000km on it before servicing it. only got 100,000km on it but its been good to me and only cost me $10,000 canadian new off the lot.
fords are just as bad now cant buy a f-150 with out wondering if itll use oil i want a new truck but so nervice it'll consum oil you should have to put oil in in between changes
Hyundai Tucson Please get in touch with me. ASAP. 2019. Oil Leaking all over. 5 quarts in the morning. 5 quarts at night. The dealer thinks it’s funny. Please get in touch with me
Can't blame the car as much as the owner!! You know there was no oil on the dipstick. Kia andHyndai suck but low oil is the owners bad maintenance plan. Not keeping an eye on things!!
you shouldnt have to put oil in between oil changes if you do its a piece of shit dont care what make or model
Hyundai and Kia are hit or miss almost like Chrysler

Hyundai and Mitsubishi…both mosquito fogging machines.
Lol I remember that too, about 25 years ago.
Your engine
might grenade itself because of bad engine bearings but it has easy oil access 😂

Valvoline Restore and Protect oil is your friend. -Maybe every 3k miles in a problem Kia/Hyundai or have the oil sent in for testing every 3k miles.
Damn, that thing was on the verge of death. Oil light should have came on way before that!😳

And yeah its a oil burner but nothing like the kia 2.4 my sister got hers replaced at 72k miles for free she noe has 160 not burning any so maybe the replacemwnt engines are ok
You should turn this into a "Rick's Rage Rants" video series
PLEASE 🙏 HELP .. !!
Rich .. i watched a million oil YTV
trying to find an answer to 1 question:
What is the best oil for N/A V8 port injection engine [ GX460] !!???
and im NOT following recommendations of 10 K oci
new car (i did early oc ) and TGMO formula changed [ horrible new mix]
again ... PLEASE 🙏 help with advice
if you can rate 1st 2nd 3rd choice !!!
calls for 0w-20 ..
im sorry to be off subject here but folks who followed 10k oci ended up in trouble (bad uoa early / burning oil later!) DESPITE the legendary reputation of that engine !!
thank you
And my 1.6L Blue oval Chooches along @214K miles, strong as ever getting me where I need to go with minimal maintenance.
Hey Rich quit beating around the bush and tell us what you really think ! 😅 😂 🤣
I have bought 9 or 10 new chevys, fords, jeeps and all the engines were great
Wonder if those crap boxes even have a oil light. 😂😂😂😂😂
What about adding some restore and protect valvoline oil?
Totally off subject but I’m looking to buy a 1997 grand marquis fully loaded 70k original miles really clean 1 owner there asking 2500 but my question is this is it a good car
My 2017 Grand Cherokee has small access for drain & filter. Someone forgot to reinstall after oil change. Gone Gone Gone
I’d make it easy to take motors in and out of it , now that would be the great idea !
Effectively, a Schlitz beer can on wheels.
I'd rather have the beer
My engine on my 2007 Tucson looks like new compared to this one that doesn't look takin care of . Mine is a 2.8 but when you get parts they claim it to be a 2.7... Strange
Yeah some dealerships won’t take them in for a trade
howdy I wanted to send you a link to a to an old ford out take ad that's here on TH-cam not sure if I should email it or just post it here
Do you think if that oil was changed at four thousand mile Intervals that it would still do the same thing
Yes
These are known bad engines
I did not think they were that bad but I knew they were bad
@@octopoint I did not know that
Almost all GDI engines without the added fuel injectors have these issues.
I still remember the guy w/ the fleet kia stinger, getting conventional wouldn't budge, I wonder how long she'll last @ 76k miles.
Conventional of what ? And wouldnt budge on what ?
@@nickmalone3143 Oil.
Most of those 2.4s are notorious for that garbage,
I had a 2016 Kia sorento 2.0 turbo with 102 K on it here in AZ that ran fantastic for three years, the oil was changed faithfully every three thousand then just suddenly it died and had to be towed to a mechanic, he found that the rod bearings were shot and it needed a new engine, luckily and 'rarely' the Kia dealership verified every thing and Kia is putting a brand new engine in it 'for free', but I now do not trust it, so I bought a Toyota Rav 4 hybrid and I will sell the POS Kia as soon as it is done !!!
The RAV4 hybrid and Prime are excellent choices and can be hard to get. RAV4 Prime -average 50mpg and sometimes 70-80mpg. 40 miles in EV mode.
Here's one nice thing: I don't own one anymore. Junk ass rat candy
Honestly is best policy everyone has different experiences. But like interrogation you don’t take just one or two pieces of information you take many to form an educated opinion 👍🏻👊🏻. If 90% say its detritus then it’s detritus
DID YOU MEAN SSDD? SAME SHIT, DIFFERENT DAY. THEY USED TO USE MITSUBISHI ENGINES BUT-----🤔🤔🤔
Add 2023 Chevy 5.3 to the extreme oil usage engines. P.D. where I work switched over from PIU to Tahoe. 8 vehicles use at least 2 quarts of oil before 1st Oil Change at 3000 miles. Hope Plugs and Cats are easy to change - I see myself spending time swapping out those parts. Come On Man Do Better.
I was going to be surprised about you talking nice things about Kia
Lack of maintenance
Easy money, I swap those out in 3 hours !!
Channel with no content ,I knew it 🤣
Lol i changed my oil then my engine blew up :o
Low oil for many miles equals flip it and buy something better 😮
THESE CARS ARE SHIIIIT
😂😂😂😂😂😂
fords are just as bad now cant buy a f-150 with out wondering if itll use oil i want a new truck but so nervice it'll consum oil you should have to put oil in in between changes
Maybe it has a prostate problem.Takes a bit to pee
Isn't it one of those motors that you replaced for that girl and even then you said they still sucked
Yes

@@FordBossMe my daughter emailed you about her 2019 tuscon. Her name Briel
Hahahahaha
hey johnny how are ya
Would never buy this trash, or anything Chrysler.
I wouldn't buy it 😅
Well…nice try??
Junk
Kia junk don't buy them. Every kia I've worked on with the 2.4 engine burn oil real bad .
Hyundai/Kia sucks.
Kia even more because its dollarstore Hyundai.
GDI engines are junk, surprised it hasn't chewed up a rod bearing already
