@DoURC The Defender was my top choice for 1/10, but before investing in it, I decided to buy two test cars to see if I enjoyed the crawlers .First, as you know, was the ford high trail 1/18, and second was the Axial Jeep Wrangler 1/24, which should arrive Monday .The money won't be wasted because im building an indoor course in my garage for the smaller cars 🙂.Harry
My wife just got me a 3300kv brushless motor/esc to put in my defender! Had it for close to 6 years now and it still runs amazingly, I have a few loud bearings so I'll probably be replacing all of them soon, but I've only spent $63 "Repairing" the trx4, I have almost exclusively replaced components to upgrade them (Apart from the ESC, which died around year 4, and the motor which just died last week after 6 years of abuse.) which makes Rc'ing so much more fun! (I Owned a cheaper one previous to the trx4 and it was a constant bill lol, always breaking/repairing it until I finally caved and bought the Traxxas. Haven't looked back since haha

Thanks very much, glad you found it helpful. The TRX4 is a fantastic rig and super tough too. I've got loads of running videos of it on my channel and it's definitely my favourite rig. 👍
@Do U RC I'm in the process of a very productive day at work going through the videos. Haha. Would you recommend the trx4 or another crawler as my first? I do have the trx4m and love that but want bigger
@Spud Spudson 🤣🤣🤣 Excellent, sounds like a good way to spend your day. 👍😎 Yeah I'd definitely recommend it. It's quite expensive and there are cheaper options out there, but imo you can't go wrong with a TRX4. They're capable out the box, reliable, tough and look great imo. A lot of it depends what you're going to use it for. As if it's just gentle crawling or trailing, a cheaper rig would probably be more than fine. But the way I drive my rigs, I generally break my cheaper ones all the time, whereas my trx4 and trx6 just ask for more! 🤣

Nice video I’m going to get another defender I sold my first one which I bought during lockdown and now I regret it Are them the stock tyres on beadlocks your running on 👍👌
@@DoURC nice one I currently bought the Trx4 ford ranger in the lovely brown colour and fitted rock lights to it my sons ordered a trx4 k5 Chevy blazer in black which he hopes will come tomorrow 😂 definitely going get the defender again been looking at the one which comes with the winch already fitted 👍
@adewashere Ah nice, they both look great too. I'd have them all if I could! 🤣👍 Yeah, that the black one with the winch. I've added the winch to mine, it's really good, takes a beating, just like the trx4. 👍🤣

I'm thinking about getting the same one, and I just want to see one with a complete lighting effect. I love the bodystyle of this defender. It just look absolutely stunning.
I've had my TRX4 Defender for 5 years now and it is a great truck. I don't really punish it crawling - I prefer to do long distances trailing in a scale kind of way. I recently bought my son an Absima Khamba second hand - as it was cheaper than the TRX4 but with the same features. This was eye opening to me... While the TRX4 is great and has the toughness and quality I found the Khamba better in a number of ways: the chassis is far stiffer, the truck is way faster (but that is less good for crawling of course) and one this I really like is that the transmitter gives you some warning when its batteries are low - still not as good as my old 27Mhz Acoms, but better than the zero warning on the TRX 4 transmitter. It seems they thought of these things better 20 years ago! One thing I really wish Traxxas did on the Defender body was to sell it uncut - so you could cut your own wheel arches - they are stupidly big and unscale. Otherwise, a great truck.
Yeah they are great rigs. I was looking at the Absima rigs before as they look really good. I agree there's some things it would be nice if Traxxas included, especially for the price, but unfortunately that's not what they're like. I'm still really happy I bought it though. The TRX4 and TRX6 and definitely my best rigs and the most capable. Even the bodies are tough. For me that reliability goes a long way, as I run them hard. My FTX Hi-Rock for example, great truck and half the price, but I'm always fixing it when I run it the same as the TRX4. Thanks very much for the great comment and taking the time to watch and comment, appreciate it. 👍
I think it is still, king. inner detail part is neat. Especially who just want to start the rc crawler, it is the best option. Thanks for the nice video !!
For the locking diffs, is it not possible to wire it the other way around? On my real truck it's unlocked, then rear and then front. You'd rarely lock the front wheels without having already locked the rear diff.
Great overview dude.. I’m going to pick up the TRX4 Cheyenne high when it arrives in the UK but the Land Rover also looks awesome 🤩 🏅🚴🤩 it’ll be my first Traxxas and crawler.. could I ask which battery you use ?

Great review of a great Trail Truck! I really like my Defender and have no regrets with what I paid for it! Traxxas covered all the bases with this rig. Oh great, I’m new to crawling (been a fixed wing flyer for years😆) and only bought an FTX Kanyon last year which is great at the price point but looking to upgrade to the Traxxas Defender, still learning about locking diff etc and your video made a great visual example but in my head I’m wondering in which instances would you not have it locked all the time!? Thanks for your reply btw
@joemusto5973 You'll definitely enjoy the TRX4 over the FTX, you won't have to fix it as often that's for sure! 🤣👍 For the locking diffs, it's manoeuvrability with them unlocked. You'll have a larger turning circle unlocked, faster top speed etc. I've permanently locked mine now using the diff spools you can buy, as I mainly use my TRX4 in mud etc. 👍 Got lots of running videos in my Land Rover playlist if you want to see it in action. 👍
I paid £560 for it brand new. If you're seeing it £180 new, that's probably the trx4m which is the much smaller 1/18 scale version. I've got a review of that too in my Reviews playlist. 👍
TRX4 is my favourite. I think the 'best' is a tricky one tbh, as everyone uses theirs for something different. Imo you can't go wrong with a TRX4 though. If I could only have 1 RC, it would be my TRX4 Defender 👍
@@DoURC I’ve really been enjoying rock crawling. I used to bash way back in the day with nitro truggies. I like not having to replace lower control arms, shock towers and driveshafts every time I go out. I’m sure I’ll break stuff eventually, but not with the aforementioned frequency.
@RabbiJesus 🤣 Yeah, bashing does tend to break stuff much faster. 👍 The TRX4 is a good rock crawler, only downside is its quite top heavy, so you'll want to add some low down weight. 👍
@@DoURC Yeah. I haven't touched mine for some years now because of that. It killed the fun of it, and it currently doesn't drive. 10 - 15 seconds with like 1 mph. Still turns but no speed. (if I even manage to get it started)
@And99 kurland You using a nimh battery or lipo? Sounds like a dead nimh battery. If the motor was shot it just wouldn't drive and only other thing would be esc really.
@And99 kurland It's probably the battery then. Nimh batteries don't last forever and they'll do exactly what you're describing. Get yourself a lipo and I bet it'll work straight away and be much better than it ever was. The stock esc can take upto a 3s lipo. You'll get longer runtime with a lipo and more power. You'll need a proper lipo charger though. If you haven't got one, check out my review of the SkyRC T100, it's cheap and really really good. 👍
It really depends on the battery capacity and how you're using it. I use a 4500mah 3s and I can easily get a couple of hours run time out of it, with a mix of driving. 👍
@bonifaciomagdiwang1697 Ah ok, weird. It's definitely stock tyre though, you can see the tyre writing on the side too where I painted the lettering. 👍 I've been really happy with the stock tyres. 👍
Traxxas's proprietary things they do are very annoying. my wife has the 1979 bronco (same chassis) and i swapped out the battery connectors to deans t connectors immediately. I am looking at getting one of these those.
Yeah it is annoying, they should all just use the same connectors, would be so much easier. I've fitted a brushless system to mine now, so pretty much all the stock electronics are gone. 👍 Still a great rig though. 👍😎
I have to disagree. I have the 21 Bronco trx4. These rigs are NOT good value for the money... They're using what... 10+ year old electronics. The servos are garbage. You almost always have to replace them within the first year. The batteries and chargers are INSANE... The light kits are sold separately for over $100 here in the US. Traxxas is truly extorting its customers. They just keep re releasing the same tired old truck with a new body and a lift kit and calling it a new truck... You get better value for the money with FTX and Redcat and Axial... All you get with Traxxas is the name, and it's NOT worth the cost of admission.
I agree with some of what you're saying, they are pricey, chargers are pricey etc. But you don't have to use their batteries or chargers, just change the esc connector or buy an adapter, easy. The stock electronics aren't that bad. My stock esc lasted me probably 2 years of constant abuse and I'm still running the stock servo now. Axial are no cheaper so you can't really compare to them. Redcat yes I agree they're great, but I've broken my Gen8 more than I've broken my TRX4. FTX are OK, but imo what you get with a Traxxas TRX4 is durability. The amount of punishment my TRX4 has taken I know for a fact an FTX won't take, as I've tried and it broke, many times. Imo if you want a rig that will last and not break on you all the time, you can't go wrong with a TRX4. Yes you have to pay some Traxxas tax, but imo its worth it. My TRX4 is now brushless and it's a tank. 👍
I think that u forgot to say how crap are the trx4 electric parts and how much money someone has to spend to make it crawl.... Because on that video u don't exactly crawl.... Trailing yes! Crawling? Not even close! It's good for someone to enter the rc crawler world, I will agree and that's it! Nice review anyway!
Thanks. I haven't had any issue with the electronics so far and if you check out the other videos on my channel you'll see its done rock crawling, mudding, river runs etc, so it's had plenty of abuse and the stock electronics have been fine. Appreciate everyone is going to have different experiences with their rigs, but I've had zero issues with it. I did say in the video I'd had it a while and that's why I wanted to wait to do the review, not just do an unboxing like so many others do. Only thing I've broken on it was the motor, but that was because I cooked it mudding and I've cooked plenty of other motors doing the same. In my opinion it's a great rig out the box, can crawl very well. Only downside is the price, but tbh compared to some cheaper branded rigs I have, I'd gladly pay the price for the trx4 again as its been so much more reliable and takes a beating without breaking a sweat. 👍 Just to add its been 7 months since I bought it and I've used it loads. I'm not a traxxas fan boy, but imo it's a great rig and I want to be honest. If you were looking for a cheaper alternative, check out my review of the Gen8 v2. 👍
🤣 It probably was! I recently rebuilt it after a year and the bearings were destroyed from all the mudding, water and sea water! The stock motor doesn't like getting wet, found that out very fast! 🤣🤦
It was quieter when I first had it, don't think the motor has appreciated all the mudding! 🤣 Going to be fitting a holmes hobbies 5 slot 15t to see how that performs. 👍

For the locking diffs, it's manoeuvrability with them unlocked. You'll have a larger turning circle unlocked, faster top speed etc.
I've permanently locked mine now using the diff spools you can buy, as I mainly use my TRX4 in mud etc. 👍
Got lots of running videos in my Land Rover playlist if you want to see it in action. 👍
@@DoURC will take a look! 👍🏼
Do You Know If They Make Lift Kit For It?
Yeah they do. You can get the high lift version, or buy the lift kit and fit it. They also do the high lift sport. 👍
Traxxas has 1:18 Defender too?
I am confused
Yeah, the 1/10 version is the TRX4, the 1/18 version is the TRX4M 👍
Excellent presentation of the vehicle and it’s features!
Thanks very much 👍
great job dude..keep going
awesome jeep😍
Thanks very much. 👍😎
Does the rear differential lock without locking the front differential?
No, front only or front and rear. 👍
Traxxas.. the king of RC... right Bro? But.. the quality always A..... love it.... 🤩🤩🤩👍👍👍
Yeah, it's an awesome bit of kit. 👍😎
L’ho preso un 5 mesi fa ed è spettacolare😀il mio ormai è tutto modificato ed è una roccia.
They're great aren't they. 👍😎
AWESOMENESS!!! 😎
Thanks very much 👍😎👍
How much money was it as I have found it for £180
Great video
I paid £560 for it brand new. If you're seeing it £180 new, that's probably the trx4m which is the much smaller 1/18 scale version. I've got a review of that too in my Reviews playlist. 👍
@@DoURC thank you i didn’t know that, that helps a lot thanks great video
@@claytonskips No problem at all 👍
Did you print or buy your decals like the ones on the windows??
Bought them, got them all off ebay 👍
@@DoURC any links? I can find some, but I’ve never been able to find the “one life - live it” sticker 😞 Thank you!
@hondafrk I got them quite a while ago. If you just search RC Crawler Stickers a few come up. 👍
Wow really great rc. I want it too 🤩🤩🤩
I'd definitely recommend one, I love mine. 👍😎
What’s the best 1/10 RTR? We seem to like all the same stuff. Everything is pointing to the TRX4.
The TRX4 is a good rock crawler, only downside is its quite top heavy, so you'll want to add some low down weight. 👍
The Element RC Enduro is your best bet.
I could make this my first traxxas. For trails and filming, driving past toy dinosaurs 😊
It's an awesome rig, still my favourite tenth scale crawler. 👍
@@DoURC is it better than the trx-4 bronco?
@wolfkingsigma2795 I haven't tried the Bronco. The only difference is the body. 👍
nice! thanks for sharing it!
Thanks very much, hopefully it was helpful. 👍😎
do you vent the wheels/tires?
The wheels are vented out the box. 👍
If you're planning on running it in water, I'd suggest sealing them, otherwise you'll ruin the foams. 👍
I really feels like mine is old now. Slower, battery drain is insane and is less capeable
That's no good. I keep upgrading mine so it keeps getting better! 🤣👍
@@DoURC Nimh
@And99 kurland It's probably the battery then. Nimh batteries don't last forever and they'll do exactly what you're describing. Get yourself a lipo and I bet it'll work straight away and be much better than it ever was. The stock esc can take upto a 3s lipo. You'll get longer runtime with a lipo and more power.
You'll need a proper lipo charger though. If you haven't got one, check out my review of the SkyRC T100, it's cheap and really really good. 👍
How long would a 3s lipo last in one of these?
It really depends on the battery capacity and how you're using it. I use a 4500mah 3s and I can easily get a couple of hours run time out of it, with a mix of driving. 👍
Where can I order one?
You can use the Linktree link in my Bio or search Traxxas TRX4 Defender online 👍
Great jeep. But those top speeds are bit absurd for the type of vehicle 😅
It's brushless now so even faster in second gear, but with amazing slow speed control. Best of both worlds. 👍😁
what battery do you use
I use an Overlander Sport Track 4500mah 3S Lipo. If you use my code DOURC5 you can get 5% off. 👍
Is those tires came from the box or you upgraded?
Yeah they're the stock Traxxas Canyon Trail tyres. 👍
@@DoURC because it looks more bigger than stock tire
@bonifaciomagdiwang1697 Ah ok, weird. It's definitely stock tyre though, you can see the tyre writing on the side too where I painted the lettering. 👍
I've been really happy with the stock tyres. 👍
@@DoURC how do you paint the tires? Using marker?
@@Rayradityaa Yeah, I used a paint marker pen from Amazon. 👍
The chassis is from metal?
Yeah, steel chassis rails. 👍
It's built like a tank. Check out my Land Rover playlist if you want to see it in action. 👍
I'm planning to order one font tell my wife too 😂😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣 I won't say a word! 🤣👍😉
Mr Garrison is that you!?
Ey? 🤔❓️
So it doesn't come with battery rip-off
Most don't tbh and if they do, it's just a nimh battery.
How you turn the truck on 😭
Just hold down the little blue button on the ESC and it'll switch on.
Still a great rig though.
Ok
OK 👍
Haha that thing sounds like it has gravel in its gearbox!
🤣 It probably was! I recently rebuilt it after a year and the bearings were destroyed from all the mudding, water and sea water! The stock motor doesn't like getting wet, found that out very fast! 🤣🤦
Wauw i like your body so much 😢😢😢😢
Thanks very much 👍
How noisy? Stick to my elements thanks.
It was quieter when I first had it, don't think the motor has appreciated all the mudding! 🤣 Going to be fitting a holmes hobbies 5 slot 15t to see how that performs. 👍
Defo loud. Mine is silent in low ratio.
m'kay
🤣 Interesting comment! 🤔🤣👍
Mm k.. mm k
Mm k 👍
To much weight on the back of that.
Yeah it's quite top and rear heavy. 👍
Still an awesome truck though. 👍
Just because a lot of people buy it doesn't mean it's good, quality-price is the worst
Great video 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks very much 👍
Does the rear differential lock without locking the front differential?
Does only the rear differential lock?
No, you can do either front only or front and rear. You could probably swap it around if you really wanted too.
No, front only or both. 👍
@@DoURC thanks for your answer.
@@RC_TRX4 No problem 👍
