The band musicians are too keen on doing their own thing to be giving her the sympathetic accompaniment her vocals deserve. It's always a potential problem with jazz and vocals. In fact, often the singer as well is so keen on improvising that the meaning of the song gets lost - but not with Andrea here.
@@jacksuggs9078 aye, I suppose there's some truth in what you say. It's not just placing of mikes or phones although that might well exacerbate things..
That's the fault of the FOH (front of house) engineer who controls all of the amplitudes from his panel. If he gets it wrong, then it sounds wrong. It probably sounds better in person. Some of the microphones on the video cameras are rather cheap and do not produce the music with any decent fidelity.

I take your points, J.F. - but I filmed this at a live concert with a packed audience which makes a difference to acoustics. AND Andrea was very brave because she wasn't well that evening, suffering from a chill, yet was determined not to let the audience down. So she was still brilliant! And just 19 back then.
