- 19 year old Andrea in her Pizza Express Jazz Club debut in London, 1st October, 2014, with the Andrea Motis / Joan Chamorro Quintet. Andrea first attracted Joan’s attention as a singer, trumpeter and saxophonist with Barcelona’s youth collective San Andreu Jazz Band. Joan plays contrabass and tenor sax, Ignasi Terraza is on piano, Josep Traver, guitar and Esteve Pi, drums.

Not sure I understand your comment '... was the Amy Winehouse of Jazz...' Exactly what do you think Amy used to sing? She was steeped in the Jazz Tradition. Amy was following the footsteps of Billy Holiday, Sarah Vaughn et al. And Andrea is following in the same tradition. Both fantastic singers, eh?

The band musicians are too keen on doing their own thing to be giving her the sympathetic accompaniment her vocals deserve. It's always a potential problem with jazz and vocals. In fact, often the singer as well is so keen on improvising that the meaning of the song gets lost - but not with Andrea here.

This time I didn't like. I must say the drums are too noisy! I can hardly hear Andrea's voice.
That's the fault of the FOH (front of house) engineer who controls all of the amplitudes from his panel. If he gets it wrong, then it sounds wrong. It probably sounds better in person. Some of the microphones on the video cameras are rather cheap and do not produce the music with any decent fidelity.
@@holywells yes, I'm sure it will be astonishing when I see these fantastic musiciens in the concert next November here in Lisbon. I confess I can hardly wait... 😊

I take your points, J.F. - but I filmed this at a live concert with a packed audience which makes a difference to acoustics. AND Andrea was very brave because she wasn't well that evening, suffering from a chill, yet was determined not to let the audience down. So she was still brilliant! And just 19 back then.
We will leave you a clone copy and take her to our home planet! Spock
