This is one of the sweetest videos I've watched. And as a beginner it's funny how much I relate to Devon - despite me being a much smaller, much weaker 27 year old female - the things he struggles with, as well as how in awe he is of what other climbers can do + how much fun he's having
Devon is my favorite kind of guy. A crazy eyed monster who will tear you limb from limb when he needs to be, and a calm, amiable fella the rest of the time. Have a sword, and know how to use it, but keep it sheathed until it's needed.
@v KEITH v Sure, but he also trains his arms with ridiculous weight. Just go look at some of his training videos, he lifts strongman-level weight using 2" roller handles.
Strong indeed, but it's also true that arm wrestling and climbling share a lot of same muscle group, such as grip strength and forarm strength, may make it a little bit easier
For people who haven't done any climbing once you try one of those walls you'll be super impressed when you realize how much weight those dudes have to pull around.
I'm 6'3", 195lbs and a former gymnast and I don't think I'd be able to do most of those climbs at age 36. I've only tried gym bouldering once but I was surprised by how difficult it is. Size is a liability up on the wall and seeing this huge dude doing so well at age 44 is impressive.
It's a huge advantage 99% of the time. Only in very, very peculiar circumstances is size a disadvantage in climbing (if it helps to be wedged in a narrow space between hands and legs).
@@MrCmon113 yeah for beginner level height can help a lot but it evens out as you progress and I think at some point even 1,75-1,82m / 5’10”-6’1” becomes the optimal range. I think Ondra once said that 1,75 would be perfect IIRC
I go to the gym 4x a week and the fact that I cann do pull ups is a major advantage. When I couldn't climb the propper way I finished the routes with arms only but that way you don't learn how to climb properly. It's funny though that I'm 185cm tall and 80 kgs but I'm the 'fattest guy' in the climbing room while I'm one of the skinniest in the gym.
@Dude Bro Very, very true. If someone did that in a climbing gym in Munich, where I live, no one would see that as alpha. Our most respected and looked up to are those who are capable, but calm - not the loud type.

Ive always seen clips of Larrat and he seems like a great guy, but in doing some research, holy crap what an interesting dude. Awesome to see that he's Canadian like me, but not only that, this dude served for the armed forces in *JTF-2* , which is easily the most badass group in the Canadian armed forces by a long shot (the type of group where active members don't show their faces or reveal their names if interviewed, should be a sign they mean business). Incredible respect to this beast of a man.
Pretty impressive how fast he caught the technique, I've climed with a number of beginners already and usually they rarely pick up any technique at their first time. He understood that he needs to use his feet primarily, the barn door effect, staying close to the wall, that he can touch the wall with his feet (on places without pieces) ... Impressed.
He was in a special forces and competed competitively in a lot of army physical competition so I'm sure this is not the first time he's climbed and probably already has a lot of good technique from doing things back in the day
is really impressive actually to see someone of his size and with his elbows the way they are trying climbing. you are a great ambassador to climbing magnus also, juji is absorbing all the times he has seen you climb i think. he's more flexible than most climbers i follow who just pull really hard

Devon and Juji are some of the nicest strong guys out there. Huge yet humble, pumped and positive!
Magnus: "Match on that to finish"
Everyone Else: downclimbs blissfully
Love how juji midway figured out what matching means lol
Idk if you guys see it too but from 5:15-6:00 do you guys realise he talks and looks like connor murphy?
I love how Anton gives coaches Devon, and the enjoyment he clearly gets from trying this out.
Incredibly positive people doing something they don’t specialise in and still having a load of fun. Great video Magnus, gives me hope for humanity you all doing this and coming from such different backgrounds.
Devon actually had amazing climbing awareness for not having done it. How he moved his body to better take advantage of the forces was really good
Devon didn’t climb any of these walls, he just pulled the wall down to his level. Crazy strong mate.
hahaha
Top rolled the shit out of it.
That sounds an awful like a chuck Norris joke lol
Rick and Morty lol
This is one of the sweetest videos I've watched. And as a beginner it's funny how much I relate to Devon - despite me being a much smaller, much weaker 27 year old female - the things he struggles with, as well as how in awe he is of what other climbers can do + how much fun he's having
"Are you saying you can't do the splits?" The man can't even do the splits with his arms, Magnus!
Hahahaha bruuuuh
Devon is my favorite kind of guy. A crazy eyed monster who will tear you limb from limb when he needs to be, and a calm, amiable fella the rest of the time. Have a sword, and know how to use it, but keep it sheathed until it's needed.
Devon seems like such a genuine guy, I’d love to meet him someday
and asks you if you wanna arm wrestling you say yes and get destroyed even before it started

Devon is insanely strong for a big guy who only trains specifically for arm wrestling.
He’s like six five his genetics are insane .
All of them are such amazing athletes that they would be amazing even if they chose to do other sports.
You dont know shit about arm wrestling dont you?
For people who haven't done any climbing once you try one of those walls you'll be super impressed when you realize how much weight those dudes have to pull around.
Yeah exactly it was super impressive to see guys their size climbing some parts with ease
This is child's play
yeah but do u see the proffesionals physiques. they dont really look that heavy.
@@melonmusk7502id love to see you weighing 250 trying this
I love how climbing brings out the child in everyone. There’s just something so instinctual about getting on something and climbing it.
We used to be apes
I'm 38, 170lbs and got back into climbing. two months in and I'm doing great
I go to the gym 4x a week and the fact that I cann do pull ups is a major advantage. When I couldn't climb the propper way I finished the routes with arms only but that way you don't learn how to climb properly. It's funny though that I'm 185cm tall and 80 kgs but I'm the 'fattest guy' in the climbing room while I'm one of the skinniest in the gym.
@@MrCmon113 lol what
The fact that he couldn’t stretch his arm fully is now making my arm feel like it needs to be stretched
Juji got me into lifting a while ago, his backflips at his size was awesome. Cool to see him climb!
I want this combo again. Magnus, Juji, Anton and Devon. Humor, athleticism and a willingness to commit to unfamiliar challenges. Great!

i really like devon and juji they feel like dudes i could hang with. hopefully they will do some more stuff with you
I love how Devon is like a kid and always happy to be learning
I genuinely cool seeing someone that excited.
Especially considering he’s kinda the hulk and the master of such a manly sport
Juji is so hyped this session! So stoked for him, that's how the climbing itch starts!
He's going to go rogue like Emil, and start his own underground climbing channel.
After a month everyone is an expert climber
Exactly! I noticed that too :)
Magnus: “um I’m not sure the rules of this gy-“
Devon at the top of his lungs: “HEY WHATS THE RULES ON COMPLETION”
peak alpha male
lmao thats what I thought
Tim McGowan lmao Magnus just doesn’t know he’s an alpha warrior
I laughed, His personality is the best!
@Dude Bro Very, very true. If someone did that in a climbing gym in Munich, where I live, no one would see that as alpha. Our most respected and looked up to are those who are capable, but calm - not the loud type.
@Dude Bro You can always find your niche/your people somewhere tho. America is so huge, you won't even have to leave your state to find all the different imaginable regional/local peculiarities or communities. It's very hard finding people you feel 100% comfortable with, I give you that much, but I feel like your fellow European Americans are out there and at the end of the day you dont have to please everyone :)
That arm wrestler guy was wholesome!
arm wrestler guy😭😭😭
man devin is humble af
I mean he's Canadian so... that's just integrated into every fiber of his being
@Top Lobster I wanna see Magnus go to every gym and just smash all the hardest ones lol
He is the most Canadian person there is
@@itsjustavi Canadian people aren't particularly nice compared to other people, this isn't a South Park cartoon
Honestly, the Magnus+Anton+Tom+Juji crossovers are awesome, that's how I started following each of your channels, you guys have a ton of fun together and it's super entertaining. Devon being in several videos now is also super cool. Awesome athletes in a pretty wide spectrum of things.
I actually don't know why i enjoyed watching this so much.
It's because of humble personality
Native British people to become a minority by 2066 (Dr David Coleman, Oxford University)
Just a bunch of muscly dudes being guys
Exactly I don't even climb
All 3 of them are nice AF man
Ive always seen clips of Larrat and he seems like a great guy, but in doing some research, holy crap what an interesting dude.
I realized watching Devon that tree sloths would be amazing arm wrestlers.
Underrated comment.
They're trying so hard to inflate his ego and Magnus is all like "I'm not sure about that". It's really funny to watch
Austin M Magnus really is such a great guy. Nothing but love for him
They are just trying to motivate him
Pretty impressive how fast he caught the technique, I've climed with a number of beginners already and usually they rarely pick up any technique at their first time. He understood that he needs to use his feet primarily, the barn door effect, staying close to the wall, that he can touch the wall with his feet (on places without pieces) ... Impressed.
He was in a special forces and competed competitively in a lot of army physical competition so I'm sure this is not the first time he's climbed and probably already has a lot of good technique from doing things back in the day
@@leonscott543 yeah he mentions right at the start that he's climbed multiple times before. Just not regularly or often
These guys are all so wholesome and adorable that they restored my fate in the youtube community.

Devon is really putting the structural integrity of those walls and holds to the test!
is really impressive actually to see someone of his size and with his elbows the way they are trying climbing.
you are a great ambassador to climbing magnus
also, juji is absorbing all the times he has seen you climb i think. he's more flexible than most climbers i follow who just pull really hard
I would like to put him in an armbar just to see if it's possible to actually get him to tap. I'm thinking he would just lock, and curl my whole upper body
Its amazing seeing how much Juji improve in rock climbing.
man, after learning about Devon and watching a few colabs between magnus and tom/juji, then coming to this video, I couldn't help myself but smile like an idiot for 30 minutes, what a sick collaboration from different disciplines and personalities. probably my favorite video on youtube right now!
Devon always makes me laugh, love that guy. I'm really glad you guys got together and climbed the boulders.
I feel an immense amount of pride watching Devon climb, succeed and have fun all at the same time.
Devon seems like a really nice guy when he's not trying to rip your arm off
Magnus: "I'm gonna keep the climbing to minimum".
Also Magnus: "I'm gonna do this boulder that is the most difficult of this gym"
Arm wrestling dude is really humble. Gentle giant. Love their attitude.
Pausing halfway through this video to just say how much it's already making me smile - Devon is a beast for his first time and I love his positive energy, Juji has improved so much and it's amazing seeing how his technique has improved. Thanks Magnus, haven't been able to climb in about 2 months with the virus going around, but the videos are giving me just enough to hold out.
