Thanks for this series on the 40’s. I like that you’re talking about the films from a filmmaking perspective, talking a bit about structure and so forth. My cinema knowledge pre 1960 isn’t very good so it’s wonderful to find out about a few of these films. I’ve never heard of the Setup and I didn’t know about Melville’s first film. I thought he just did those elegant crime films before Army of Shadows. That’s exciting to find out about. I like that you like watching a lot of noir. Best to you and your channel!

My favourites of this year is Battleground which is a great war film of this era, and ofcourse the first film you mention The Third Man. When I watched The Third Man about a year or two ago, I had actually seen The Lighthouse (2019) first, and what struck me was that the scene where Harry has been shot and is crawling up the spiral staircase is extremely similar to the one at the end of The Lighthouse where young tom is crawling up the spiral staircase in the lighthouse - have you noticed this aswell? I don't know if anyone else has picked up on this or if I'm just imagining things, but those that lighthouse scene almost seems like a reference...
Also I was a bit early in commenting but I personally disagree with your take on Twelve O'Clock High, I really really enjoyed that one, it doesn't stand out compared to other airforce themed films but the drama is impeccible imo, Gregory Peckible.

I did enjoy it as a whole. Might like it more on rewatch.
