    You seemed to have missed the part early on in the movie when she’s watching the news and they mention a serial killer.. who is her. As a serial killer she goes to the extreme to stay on the run. You missed so much tension in the second half too, between what does the father actually think (we’re not certain) and how far is all this physical touching going to go. But what I dislike most about your review is how much you rely on other examples in film, mainly one film in particular.. to make your point. It’s almost as if you said absolutely nothing in the thematic elements on the piece itself but rather just said everything it is not that other direct example of films are.. which honestly you could’ve included lion king too on your approach. This one flew completely over your head and honestly I’m glad.

    I am just tired of the unnatural behaviours of some of the characters in contemporary cinema. I want some normal natural reactions some normal behaviours and the magic in them. This is why i like tokyo story i know it wont dissapoint everything makes sense in the movie it is a pleasure for the soul.

    Strawberry is not shallow. She's 17. When I was 17, in 1983, I had a year-long affair with a much older man, Lew, 34 and I also didn't challenge him. You don't when you're 17, you just hang out and give the guy sex, laugh at his jokes, and give him massages when he wants them. It's not until later, that you figure out how dumb you were. So, no, Strawberry is not shallow, she's just a young girl, trying to figure shit out. It's a great film though and Simon Rex dominates it, with his incredible looks, charm, wit and natural inclination for hilarity.

    • @samtysoe
      @samtysoe วันที่ผ่านมา

      Also, this is a film from Mikey’s perspective as evident by the ending. He doesn’t see Strawberry as a layered character. At the end of the day, she is an object for him to sexualise for his own personal gain, hence why I think we learn so little about her as a person.

    You know I was always assuming the ear bleed and handwriting thing was a side effect of more than one individual existing in a universe suddenly breaking the laws of thermodynamics and conservation of matter etc. Maybe the earbuds becoming a causality violating object and their hands writing down future information did the same and that is why they lose coherence.

    Regarding lack of inter-titles during long scenes, in this era people were actually used to reading the lips of actors and few minded. Some people would even complain if title cards didn't match what characters said or if actors mouthed jibberish because many could accurately read the lips! It was a different era and culture long passed.

    I mean it is a great movie but it is most definitely overhyped, I think partially due to the fact that there is a big portion of casual people on social media that put a24 on a pedestal. This was also one of their most heavily marketed films in a long while. It will always go in one ear and out the other if you criticize this film, Hereditary, or The Godfather. I am sure I am missing others for sure but those three in the age of social media are pretty much institutionalized and people have been forced to pick sides "if you don't think it is a masterpiece your perspective is irrelevant".

    As soon as the movie introduced Joy as gay i was like that will be plot relevant, then when they wouldn't show jobu tupaki i was like oh thats going to be her daughter and i knew the rest of the plot would just be about Evelyn standing up to Gong Gong and supporting her and everything else would work out the movie had no real stakes for me

  • @balqisnashita6627

    This movie made me genuinely believe that the idea of "multiverse" was created just to excuse and justify a not very coherent story. They probably intended to create a complicated story with a lot of meaning, but i can't help but feel that the writing is lazy, it feels slow but also rushed at the same time.

    Many people said the director intended for the audience to not like Alexia, but watching the movie it doesnt feel at all that way. It's okay to have a serial killer as a protagonist, but it has to be part of the plat in a more interesting way than just "and now she is on the run from the police". American Psycho also has a serial killer as protagonist, but each killings atleast require planning and are interertaining to watch instead of just slasher movie action. And you are definitely supposed to care for her as she is doing her disguise, developing a relationship with the fighter fighters and ultimately dying from giving birth. After all the mindless killings that she's done she goes out the easy. She has no remorse and receives no punishment, like what? And if people say: "you are not supposed to side or care about her because she is bad", then why would i watch a movie where i dont care about the protagonist? Go watch breaking bad, are you supposed to root for Walter White at the end? Not really, he is a similar criminal. But damn you really care about what happens to him and his family and all that know him. And if were supposed to care for alexa, then why she doesn't get consequences for her actions of murdering bunch of innocent people. Instead she dies from an event that has nothing to do with her crimes
