Very nice. The slack adjustments are louder on an empty coal train, as the empty cars tend to amplify the sound. Big hoppers don't have a lot of slack in the draw bars, so it can be bang-bang as the slack runs in and out. Coal hoppers have special, high strength draft gear that can take that kind of punishment. :Loaded coal trains handle better than empties and actually power brake nicely. As always, a great video.
You hit the lottery with coal trains this video JT!!! And I've never seen a coal train that wasn't very LONG! Used to watch them in Montana when they would head up the mountains to go through the pass. They went on forever. Fantastic train action and great video! Thank you so much for all you do to bring the rails to us!! Until next time!!
Never get tired of watching coal trains my absolute favorites. That first one with those hard working DPUS was an absolute beast, 218 cars. And another going over and under was pretty cool too as well as all that slack action. Luck was on your side that day JT.👍🏼🤩✅
@@gheffzThat appears on UP, that's the corporate motto. It dates back To the Continental railroad completion in the 1860's. They built The east bound leg from California to Promontory, Utah. Great shots of the several EV Fuel trains! Like the NS horn salute! Love the architecture of that car underpass bridge at beginning of the video! Maybe next time you’re in Kenova you could do a short walk through of that bridge it’s got some style to it! Nice to see Brandi out enjoying the warm day with the youngsters.
Fabulous catch JT!!! The longest coal train I've ever seen at 200 cars hauling 40 million pounds of coal. It has to be the best train of the month!! 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Great video, JT. Loved the horn work by the NS mixed freight crossing the bridge. Engineer loves running trains. First video for me after just getting out of the hospital after getting my nutrition back into shape again. It got way out of wack, but, now I'm back. Love watching your videos while doing my jobs. Keep emailing coming. Thanks. Glenn
I really like seeing the trains crossing over and then under the trestles it's really exciting for all ages to watch trains they are more better than anything on television these days, also your train dogs in the yard having fun and playing with the train recaps are all really great to watch Thanks again Jaw Tooth.🇺🇸🤠🐕🐈⬛🇺🇸 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇸💨
That CSX loaded coal train was impressive with the two mid-train DPUs! The empty Norfolk Southern train that came across the Ohio River bridge and then going around the wye to come down off the bridge and come around to pass under the same bridge to head westbound for more coal was a different move. I believe you caught another Norfolk Southern following the same route earlier in 2023. Thank you for another splendid railfanning day in Kenova, West Virginian, Jaw Tooth!
The one coal train that really stood out is the one video that you made is here where it was Three trains in one with two DPUs in about every one third of the train I watched it and I,ll give it two thumbs up.
Thanks for the trestle panning on M.P 568 @ "17:30" which was clearer @ 17:40". That fire hydrant below @ ground level looks to be in the middle of nowhere 😮, thanks for the Defect Detector too ❤
Thanks JT definitely a great location , all the different prospectives , and the train wrapping itself all the way round and under , pretty cool stuff .. Thanks for sharing..
Awesome train 🚆 video, Brian. I thought that you were going to film only coal trains today, but it didn't happen 🤔. Keep up the good work 👍. I didn't know that a road went under the 3 railroad tracks at the beginning of this video. Thanks for sharing 😊
You sure can't beat it 3 coal trains in a row. One on the csx line and two on north folk southern line. Those long bangs over the bridge, I wonder if the conductor is trying to dump his load over the side🤣🤣
All the banging was the the slack tightening up as the lead engine either was picking up a little speed or slowing down...couplers can handle a lot but eventually either break in service or are inspected and replaced while in for maintenance.
JT left us fortunate viewers a great video with a trifecta of coal to help heat and power the homes. Even several Conrail hoppers made a guest appearance and then a regular Freight tested the prowness of the B&B gang maintenance on the bridge. The NS train said to itself it was so good it's worth seeing twice. Even that small street bridge is a classic probably from the 1930s where even The Pedestrian walkways look like a garden archway. Here in Wisconsin we do have a smaller scale Loop for coal trains coming west on the UP (old CNW) at Necedah where it curves around itself to go underneath to the CN (old MILW RD) track. This connection was installed by the Wisconsin Central to assist in serving the Wisconsin Public Service power plant in Weston WI near Wausau. A nice sunny day certainly yielded some great results in capturing that massive piece of Steel
It would be cool to know the area in WV these trains originate from. I was in Mason City, WV this week, and saw a large coal train heading south towards the Kanawha River. Makes you wonder😎
Jaw Tooth, I noticed those closed bottom coal cars, they look like the ones they carry to Sandusky Coal Storage in Northern Ohio to load on board of ships, They have a huge coal dump Facility to load ships or put in storage until the ships arrive. Saw a video last week about this place. It is owned by Norfolk Southern. The person who did the video has to use a drone to show how it all works, This place was built in the 1930's. Every close bottom Coal car is picked up in the air and dumped into a shoot then run on conveyor belts. Really Cool place.
Wow..two DPUs exciting to see. This is a long coal train. Cool capture.😊It really was a good one 👍. This made my day. Thanks Mr JT.❤😊oh yes sweet fur babies ❤❤❤
Another great video. JT and did you know that NS hauls more coal than any other railroad in the United States and Canada, and they also own 5 to 10 Coal mines of their own and they ship a lot of Coal overseas but anyway, my friend you stay safe out there and watch your back and will see you in your next video
A really cool mixed freight. I especially like the yellow covered hoppers. 😊 You said you hoped for coal trains and your wish came true! How awesome is that? Super video today JT! Thanks 👍 so much! 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Great day for railfanning in Kenova.👍Looked at the map on Google and the train that looped under the bridge probably looped under again as it left the empty coal cars in the yard for reloading. Looked like a bunch of barges deliver coal to be loaded on train cars.
Kenova is always awesome and the coal (electric car fuel) trains are a treat. When in doubt, dig it out. Just a wee turbo oopsident. Some duct tape, a little bondo, it'll be fine......... Cool slack action and great video. Enjoyed it much, thanks JT!
I think it's when the train slows down,. The cars are going fast at the end of train so what you get is stuttering cars at the end of the train trip to force.
Coal is King! Awesome catches on these trains! Have a great weekend all!
You could say that again.
Yes, our lives can't exist as it is without it... and the irony of pushing to "electric" is coal is needed to charge them... it's all a big con.
Good Morning to Brian and all the gang.. Have a wonderful weekend.. Be Safe!!
It's hard to believe all of that weight ,all that momentum and speed, can travel safely though it's route. Just amazing
My turf!! Coal, it keeps the lights on !!!
8:27 fantastic bridge ! I loved it!
Good morning everyone
Good morning!
That big trestle never gets old.🤘🏻
Yes, it's a great setting!!! Great visuals from there.
That coal train was a Monster! Still watching live.Thumbs up That over and under train catch was AMAZING!

Agree (sound).
Awesome banging sound of the train cuff links they were very loud. And nice double DPU S on that long coal train . Nice catch JT as always 👍👍👍

a real beauty that shot between 5.58 and 6.36. The coaltrain disappearing in the distant light. Many thanks fo r todays upload, JT.

Love coal trains catches. Locomotives work very hard with those loads .
