Hi...I just wanted to ask you...I have my day 1 for the met police I 2 months and I am trying to find more examples to prepare myself..I bought the new book from Amazon but I was wandering if there are more or if you can make some videos...many thanks for your time
Answer to sample question 5 is actually B not E. It is not circled correctly, the correct answer that you also point to includes both arrows pointing down but you circle E inaccurately instead of B. Thank you for uploading these videos very helpful 👍
Dear Richard, I want to thank you for sharing these aptitude videos. I have tried most of your video to practice for my real test with AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE. I got the job! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and support. Ryan

Q2 - E - I started with the star icon; it goes left-side middle, left upper corner, top middle, right-side corner. The 5th image should be right-side middle, which knocks out answer A. I think I’m going to go with option E because it’s the first image, just reflected & flipped to the other side. Q4 - C - The first image has 2 sides, skip the second image, the third image has 4 sides, the forth image has 5 sides, and the fifth image has 6 sides. So the second image has to have 3 sides and since it’s doing shapes with the sides then it’s a triangle. Then if we focus on the last three images it goes black to white to black, so then the second image has to be a white triangle. The answer is C. Q5 - B - Based on images 3,4,5 it’s being rotated 90 degrees. To demonstrate this I used my hands; make two “L” signs and touch the thumbs together. Each tip of your finger is the direction the arrows are pointing. By doing this you can follow along with the images by starting with image 2. Going from image 2 and using my “L” signs I rotate 90 degrees counterclockwise. My thumbs are together and my pointer fingers are pointing downward, which matches image 2. When he explained it going counterclockwise, it popped up with the correct answer, so I think he just made an honest mistake when editing. Q6 - C - The first thing I noticed is that the dot in the upper right-side switches colors from black to white, so the 5th image would have a black dot in the upper right-side. The second thing I noticed was that the middle circle also switches colors but from white to black, so the 5th image should have a white middle circle. Based on those two things, it knocks out A, B, and D. So the answer is C. Q7 - D - I first noticed that they are all spilt in the middle, except for D. A could easily be split in the middle going straight down as well. Option D is the odd one out. Q8 - C - First I noticed the dot line and the cubes line stay the same when going through the pattern. Option B and D can be knocked out because they don’t follow this pattern. The triangle line goes through the same pattern, but switches colors each move. So if you follow the pattern, it should be the triangle line at the top with the first triangle being grey and the second triangle being black. Option C. Q9 - B - I started with the dot, it does black, dotted, stripes, repeat. So the 6th image should have a striped dot in the upper right-side. That eliminates C, D, and E. The arrow alternates colors each turn so the 6th images should have a white arrow. Option B is the answer.
Q4 is C because the sides are increasing in each square and the colors alternate. The first square is neutral because it cannot be filled in with a color…
Q7 may have 2 answers A and D, if you go by shading 50 percent D is the answer if you go by pointed corners A is the answer as has rounded corners and the shading has a pattern of horizontal and vertical shading to support H,V,V,H,V,V,H etc.
Thank you so much! Honestly these tests are unfair because it's just a case of who has been taught and who hasn't been taught. I was doing something else with them, which to be honest, doesn't show I can't reason abstractly, just shows I think differently. Thanks for taking the time to teach us, because now I know the 'way'! Isn't no.5, B and not E?
Right. They can be interpreted in any way. Perhaps my logical reasoning is the combination of the two first which equals an option. This has nothing to do with intelligence
Dear Richard Thank you for the an amazing videos, Kindly clarify the question 5, where when we turn the shape unti-clock wise, then the correct answer is B not E
Ans of 8th. Question will be C because all shapes on lines are shifting by one row and if we look at the triangle they are swaping their colour in each sequence.
Wow! I’ve never in all my 50 years, ever been able to understand or work out these shape sequence tests, but just watching this film, I am amazed that I’m getting the gist of it. You’re a brilliant teacher! Just by telling us what we can rule out makes you feel as though you might get it right. Then when you look at your choice, you can see the logic in it. You explain it so well that ANYONE can do it, not just boffs. I can’t believe that what used to look like puzzles only a hero trapped in an Egyptian pyramid could decipher and manage to escape with seconds to spare! lol. Sorry for rambling but I’ve been on several sites trying to learn then I found you and now I’m going to practice and post answers to see if I’m getting there. Xxxxx
With these types of tests there isn’t really any set rules, it’s just pattern recognitions. Sometimes the pattern may not be obvious but it’s always there. It’s just a matter of using your logic and pattern recognition to solve these. Doesn’t matter of your age either :)
Awesome video. Enjoyable & instructive. Thanks greatly. Sample question 5: correct answer is B not E. 90 degree counterclockwise rotation gives L lower black arrow downward (as in B), not upward (as in E)
Question 4 Answer is C.A dark element is followed by a light element and the next element increases in the number of sides by one. Your channel is very helpful.
Sorry please clarify the question 5 again because I see the answer to be C. If you check it well u will see that two arrow are facing each other whiles the opposite two are all facing away in one direction but option E is facing opposite direction and option C is facing same direction.
Thank you for the help! I've noticed a lot of IQ tests online use this format and I'm somewhat puzzled by that, because this is very much a skill you can practice and get better at, half the "test" is just knowing which patterns "count" and which don't. My problem the first time I took a test like this is that I saw TOO many patterns leading to several potential answers, I was essentially overthinking it, which isn't accounted for despite how abstract the test is when you're just given the instruction of "find the pattern" and nothing else. And I know that's a very lazy measure of IQ because I've taken long-form IQ tests with multiple forms of questioning that test different abilities and done better on that, so I don't understand why some online tests (and companies that employ them) are so one-note.
yeah i took an IQ test for my psychiatric evaluation which took at least an hour (dont remember if it was 1 or maybe even 2 hours long) and IIRC my IQ result was 121 - and yet, these tests stump me routinely. i don't think i'm stupid, i just feel like this isn't actually a logic test since it follows pre-determined rules that are set by the test designer, not falsifiable logic
Thank you Richard for this effective video. I have not any idea regarding Abstract Reasoning tests and now I hope that I have get some ideas regarding this. How come number 1 is D? Its E. Take a look at the box 2 and 4. That is the big clue they look like in mirror effect. Imagine that the first box is the image in the mirror. So that perfect answer is E
Question 7 depends on how you look at it. It could be A, but it could be D, because a is horizontal while the rest are vertical. While D is vertical, but more than half is shaded. Just depends,
Richard, in so many years I never understood how this was working - Thanks so much and love your passion in interview field!! - keep the up the good work - Cheers
would it be possible to provide the answers to the test questions immediately after pause with the reasons like your competitors do? it makes learning faster especially for a test. Right now we have to wait never knowing if we are right until you get back to us. Thank you.
Came here to say this. Little bit pointless not knowing whether we got it right without waiting for answers, by which time we'll have forgotten what we even did.
Thanks for this great tutorial. My answers are as follows: Q2 = E Q4 = C Q6 = C Q7 = A (only shape not triangle-like shaped) Q8 = C Q9 = B Thank you once again
For the groceries thing a better analogy is like moms are really good at remembering grocery list because each item is linked to a meal they had already planned on making days ahead for the week so each essential ingredient is linked to the that meal ex : Taco Tuesday/Thursdays so she gets all the items that would be required for tacos instead of thinking of the individual items on the list but she knows that they are individual items and spreaded throughout the store
Dear Sir, first of all I’m very much glad to knowing your website and it’s absolutely very helpful. Just I noticed that the sample question 5 is elaborately explained well. The answer would be B instead E, according your explanation. Hope u may have look. Tqvm,

Q7: All of them. 9:58 A: The only one with rounded corners. B: The only one with an angle that appears without another of that same angle that is identical. (A has zero angles. B has 2 different angles, one of which appears only once. C has 2 different angles appearing 5 times each. D has 1 angle appearing 5 times) C: The only one with an angle greater than 180 degrees. (A doesn't have any angles. B+D angles are all sub 180.) D: The only one that is not shaded in half.
Correct answer is B, and he does show the shape matching B, he has simply overlooked the direction of one arrow when giving his answer. Good lesson for everyone- even if your problem solving is correct to double check your final answer because we can all make mistakes.
Question 5 I was confident it was B using the rotation in my head (the blue arrows never also "point" towards the same circle in the rest of the patterns) but seemingly was wrong Lol
@@CareerVidz It cannot be B as that is the same as the last square. The answer is the same as the first square because it is simple rotation: the fifth must be the same as the first. Not one of the possible "answers" is correct.

Q7 is indeed D, this was the answer I was looking for, Good work! Keep this up for the rest of the questions within the video. I also appreciate the feedback on the video and I am pleased to hear that you are enjoying the video.
First of all, I would really like to thank you for this grea vedio tutorial. It helped me for I will be having exam on this....However, for the Sample Question #5, the correct answer is B. Because the black arrows go against one another in choice E which can cause a mess in the sequence
Hi, I was aware of the incorrect answer being displayed in the video. The correct answer should be B. Good work though on finding this. Good luck for your exam!
Firstly thank you for posting this type of material. As others have mentioned Q5 answer has to be (B) NOT E. Also would it make more rational sense to word the question 'Which Shape Starts or Commences the Sequence versus 'completes' the sequence, especially if the other questions have been moving from left to right and using the phrasing 'completest the sequence' as they are actually completing the sequence, not beginning the sequence as in Q5. Find it just adds a level of ambuity around the english being used. Yet again thank you for having this online , it is appreciated as may my unsolicitied feedback be also appreciated. Yikes!!
Q4=C because each time the sides increase by one and it alternates white black white black.... Q6=C it's C because the inner and outer color alternates from black to white and every 2 shapes you add an extra line Q7=D each shape is filled with half black half white except for D Q8=C because the 2 triangles move up and down but when it reaches the bottom it goes up to the top, the rectangle and square have the same rule, same with the white circle. Q9=B the arrow moves 45 degrees clockwise and changes black to white each time, the tiny circles change black to dotted to striped, so if the arrow was black and pointed to the dotted circle the next one will be a white arrow pointing to a striped circle.
Thank you for your answers. These are all correct. Well done. Please would you subscribe to my channel? I'd appreciate your support. Thanks! Get free access to our new FREE Psychometric Testing Suite: www.how2become.com/free-psychometric-tests/
I like the idea of practicing these, but the reason they make tests like this is to test raw IQ and solving problems with multiple components to see how people do it under time pressure in your head. It's a pretty tricky situation.
Only they forget that there’s ppl with childhood trauma due to abusive teachers that physically n psychologically abused them (not sexually thankfully) and still are horrified of exams so … i would really hope they would NOT time exams >.< n they didn’t called them exams >.

A: The only one with rounded corners.
B: The only one with an angle that appears without another of that same angle that is identical. (A has zero angles. B has 2 different angles, one of which appears only once. C has 2 different angles appearing 5 times each. D has 1 angle appearing 5 times)
C: The only one with an angle greater than 180 degrees. (A doesn't have any angles. B+D angles are all sub 180.)
D: The only one that is not shaded in half.

Q6=C it's C because the inner and outer color alternates from black to white and every 2 shapes you add an extra line
Q7=D each shape is filled with half black half white except for D
Q8=C because the 2 triangles move up and down but when it reaches the bottom it goes up to the top, the rectangle and square have the same rule, same with the white circle.
Why is 9 B
I like the idea of practicing these, but the reason they make tests like this is to test raw IQ and solving problems with multiple components to see how people do it under time pressure in your head. It's a pretty tricky situation.
Yes agree but it helps tremendously to practice
Only they forget that there’s ppl with childhood trauma due to abusive teachers that physically n psychologically abused them (not sexually thankfully) and still are horrified of exams so … i would really hope they would NOT time exams >.< n they didn’t called them exams >.
