Yeah recently took me and a buddy 6 hours to play 2 rounds... in our defence we both started playing 40k in 10th edition and we had more like 12-15 data sheets each. We where playing Tyranids vs SM and could likely have played highlander mode.
Played a tournament yesterday and your dice trick saved me 5ish minutes every game! Usually played with 36dice(abox) and some rnd dice to add. This time used 36 and another 14 of one colour. Man i finished my three games in 1h06min, 54min and 1h02min. ALL Games played out till R5 (i mean R5 takes 2min usually but still^^) Thanks a lot, this gives some free minutes wich could save my ass in harder/more chaotic games!
Great tips as always! One I thing I might add (as someone who has timed out at tournaments before) is to consider time as a resource in list design as well. Some units are going to just play slower than others, if I am playing sisters with 30 arcos that have 2 wounds each, a 4+ fnp, and a bucket of attacks I know that will be a heavy investment of my clock so I look for places I can save time in my list elsewhere.
@@theblackantonio the struggle is real for sure, I dont know of any app and I think if you're playing in a tournament you have to roll them. My best advice is do batches of 30, precount dice like mentioned in the vid, and get a dicebox if you dont have one already.
One piece of advice for playing while your learning your datasheets. Activate your units systematically. I have a binder that I have all my cards in. Leader is always on top of the body gaurd. I start with the unit and go through the stack. It might not be ideal strategically, but as you learn your sheets, you can start mixing things up. At that point, I try to keep my sheets in the same order so they are easy to find if needed.
The first game I played was infinity. It was very easy to overthink because of all the risks. As I was learning the game I realized I would rather make quick mistakes vs taking forever to think things through and so making a mistake.
I played with a clock for the first time at a team tournament last weekend! Orks against nids and it definitely made my game speed up, I also feel like I handled the pressure pretty well and took a big win for the orks! Thanks for the content dude!
Great advice. It also is the core of why I play slow - I try out new units and have a lot of different dataslates. This results in looking up stuff all the time. And for stategy, I try to accomplish ALL the secondaries. Food for thought. Beerhammer or 2 hour games 🤔
@@Happykrumpingwargaming007 actually... I don't play tournaments and am unlikely to in the future, however I play a weekly 2k game that takes us a ridiculous 10 hours to play, which means we have to split it into 2 sessions and it doesn't even feel like we're spending lots of unnecessary time doing anything in particular. I haven't watched the video yet, (I'm about to), but it sure would be great to cut our time in half at least, so we can play more often.
Some ideas - if you are playing with your buddies, have the host setup terrain ahead of time (you can adjust before you play) - use squad bases so you don't have to move individual models - use the dice your opponent rolled to wound your guys to make your saves - exchange lists the day before the game so you can read up on your opponent's army rules - print out a cheatsheet with your army rules (quicker than looking through index or book)
I think you will be SHOCKED how much time you will save. There is essentially no reason to ever have a game go longer than 3 hours outside of a learning game!
So, after watching, my biggest take-aways from it for me personally, are, 1, memorise the frickin' data sheets and stratagems etc, (yeah I've been struggling with that and always end up spending time flipping through, trying to find the sheet that I need each time), 2, have an overall game plan and 3, plan my next turn during my opponents turn. Ive known someone who used the clock as a weapon in the most unsportsmanlike way, he would roll hits, then wounds and leave the dice on the board and say "whatever of these dice are 4 or higher" then hit the clock over.
My first 2000pt game of 40K was back in 1994, took two evenings on my dad's pool table vs my brother, probably 8 or 9 hours 😂. Now I can get through a 2K game in 2 hours vs an opponent who knows their list well.

Yeah its part of the balancing on the game. Endless swarm is extremely powerful, but can you move it fast enough? Its a soft balancing
You've mentioned your second channel. Could you please tell me its name? I'd gladly check it out.
@Happy&Healing regular uploads are starting there next week!
I find that custodes are great for playing fast. But when my friend plays CSM he loses on clock all the time lol
I play horde orks on a clock with no problem :P it just takes practice! The clock is our friend!
Great content A++
Cheers buddy, i appreciate the support :)
Memorising my thousand sons list is borderline impossible 😂 so many leaders
hahaha in this edge case of Tsons, that very well may be true :P
@@Happykrumpingwargaming007 the very last thing I want to do is screw myself on my opponent by forgetting the strength of damage of a psychic attack. They are a huge part of my output and can swing games.
DATZ KUNNIN AN BRUTAL
sneaky sneaky
Is it appropriate to send this video to people at my game shop? 😂
haha please do, i wont say no to having the vids shared :P
I lost a RT tournament game to a tau player by 8 points because he got to burn 2 hours and 30 minutes of our 3 hours. It didn't matter that i was going to table him by turn 4. He got 3 turns, i only got 2. Really disrespectful to eat time like that on purpose.
yeah its nonsense, always use a clock
I all but refuse to memorize the indomitor kill team sheet -- because dear god... they are mixed beyond belief! lol
haha i can respect that, i am pretty much set on normal kill team vets for my deathwatch :P
I don't agree about asking someone if they can see you, line of site is on you unless its a gotcha.
i dont expect my opponent to memorize every single movement profile or special ability in my army. If i have a unit that has the ability to get to where they are asking about, and it has the ability, i will tell them when they ask
My problem is rolling about 76 dice at a single time...
take it in 40's haha
There's me looking to save 30 minutes on a 4 hour game, and I'm reading people playing 10 hour games, I couldn't play with people going that slow, what are they doing on their opponent's turn. Sleeping?
haha, well sometimes people use the game as background noise to just hanging out
I like the faster games! But it favors elite armies and punishes hoard armies…
i run a 130 model ork army very easily using these methods my friend.
@@Happykrumpingwargaming007 I don’t doubt it but as a new player (playing infantry guard) I’m still very slow and the person training me played knights lol
When planning your turn during your opponent's turn, do you measure movemet, threat ranges etc while your opponent is doing their attacks? Or do you make a plan and then make quick measurements and some small adjustments during your turn as needed?
always! I do all of that stuff while my opponent is thinking
I think i have shot my self in a leg. 13 SM/BA unique datasheets.
haha, but be honest with yourself. how many of those datasheets come up more than once or twice a game?
@@Happykrumpingwargaming007 true. To be honest i already remember most of them. Only problem is when i swap stats(sv and move) of ballistus dred and Baal predator. But i will get there.
Is the discord purely paying members
No there is a free side as well
@@Happykrumpingwargaming007 might just join properly next week
Would love to have you
@@Happykrumpingwargaming007 thanks bro you're sound
To speed up FNP rolls just roll as if it were an armour save then reroll successes until you run out of damage.
Say I take 5 D2 wounds on my 1w Death korps of krieg with death korps marshal I just roll 5 dice and reroll any 5's or 6's
ahh this is actually not the correct way to do it, although many people find it acceptable :)
And if you play high model armies you are screwed.😂
no sir, i easily run a 130 model ork army with 0 issues
Hmm why its play time manly a issue with gw systems…
Its an issue with any competitive game. Every single one i can think of at least
I got much faster since I am able to Play one Game per week.
The reps certainly help my man!
Risk players and 8 player 50 turn Mario Party 7 players: 3 hours pathetic.
:P
