Great stuff as always dude, I really need to give the Prime series another go. The controls have always felt odd to me and that really put me off giving them a proper go :/
Try the Wii version, the trilogy is like $30 on the Wii u Eshop which is a steal. The controls are extremely well done once you're used to it (which doesn't take too long).
Just for reference, I'd want to stream MPT at some point. Issue is when would be a good time.
Good job at debunking the various preconceptions people tend to have about this game. Sadly the new "Normal" mode introduced in the Wii version fails to highlight just how challenging this game actually is, although, and this is probably because the energy "draining" speed in dark areas isn't affected by difficulty, Prime 2 at least offers some tough boss fights while Prime 1 & 3 (1 in particular) are piss easy from start to finish.
factsfromspace Oh yeah, the other 2 are a breeze I find. It's sorta sad people automatically connect a more challenging game as a worse game.

Prime 3 on Hyper Mode is actually really fun because going into hyper mode (the other one...) is like gambling with your life here. Taking down enemies takes a lot longer so every shot counts. On top of that enemies will start using hyper mode against you more frequently (basically all the time) which makes combat even more unforgiving. The definition of a "veteran challenge"!
factsfromspace I remember Prime 3s hypermode being a massive step up from the more casual experience its normal mode offered. It felt like more of its elements should have been in it's normal difficulty (like risk/reward hypermode).
Looks like I need to replay Prime 3.
