F35 isn't THE dog fighter. It can dog fight quite well, but the role is different than a dedicated dog fighter like the F22. The F35 is multi-role, it can do almost anything to a very high degree, but its not a specialized weapon like the F22 is for dog fighting.
The F-35 is a single engine, basic-ass, semi-stealth fighter jet. The F-22 is a finely-honed and over-powered stealth violin. US Congress passed a law that made it illegal to sell the F-22 to anyone while the F-35 is for sale to any of our allies.
A Congressional Rep passed a bill banning the USA from selling the F-22 to even close allies. And the F-35 was buggered by all the tech that couldn't live up to the hype but now after massive money and work by the industry (engineers) the systems are pretty good and the F-22 just needs to be up graded with the newer tech.
@@MarvRoberts USAF has actually stated the frontal stealth aspect of the F-35 is superior to F-22. The Raptor's advantages are a more powerful radar, more air-to-air missiles, and vastly superior kinematics/ flight performance, specifically speed and ceiling, which massively increases its missile ranges in the thin air at 60,000ft and above.
To address the question at about 20:00, the answer is in the datalink. Similar to how the US Navy AEGIS system connects and can use any launcher in the fleet, the US and allies warfighting concept is to connect EVERY asset in theater in real time and use every sensor to identify and engage. example, a satellite can detect an enemy air formation, an F35 can get close for accurate ID if needed and provide targeting data, an F18 can then send the new missile from 100+ NM out based on the F35s target data. That multi sensor capability is why the US and allies are so scary right now, if anything can see it, EVERYTHING can see it.
@@RworldKMYeah! It’s a firing-data social media group. 😂 (Laughing at the mental image of a load of targeting computers on Facebook, discussing which bandit to prioritise and what type of asset to use to take them out.)
To my knowledge, the F-22 kicks in the door, the F-35 comes in to help with air but priority is to knock out the aa systems, and the 4.5 gen F-15 follows along with the ability to be a missile truck launching upon whatever the F-35 points out. We have a few systems that can lock on then tell someone else to fire if it thinks it has a better ability to take out the threat.
The f35 would go in first to destroy air defenses with the f22 following closely for air superiority then you’d have your f15 and 16 for multi role purposes and then you’d probably have the A10 in there too if there is a heavy tank presence once air superiority is established
Idc how much they spend on the raptor. It's the most lethal flying machine in the world. Until its obsolete...upgrade,upgrade,upgrade! The f22 should be the Grandpa Buff of the fighters
The Kid here can practically HOVER with how powerful his thrust vectoring is. For the job it was made to do - unparalleled manoeuvrability and pure stealthy A/A lethality.
Unless I'm mistaken, infrared search is less detectable than radar, if not undetectable. One of the ways to know an F-22 is in the area is detecting its own radar scanning and/or locking your aircraft. If infrared has good range, there's even less chance of knowing an F-22 (marble on radar) is sneaking up on you until a missile launch or gun shot, which isn't a good way to find out you're being engaged by an F-22.
F22 has passive sensors to track and target enemy aircraft, also it can utilize off board sensing like awacs or f35. Irst is the way to track and target stealth or LO aircraft which is why we saw f22 and others flying around with mirrored like body panels
IRST is a passive tracking system yes, as in it sends out no signals for any other aircraft or sensor to pick up on unlike radar. Alex Holling at Sandbox news on YT has a very good new video on the upgrades that answers all of the questions that this video doesn't
I know you're British and say what you will about the Spitfire. I respect it in every way, as the Mustang believe me. But the F-22 is the most beautiful and deadly aircraft in history. The F-35 is the chubby younger sister. There's a reason we don't sell the Raptor.
$77,464,788.732 per aircraft. But the 11 billion spread out over 10 years is "ONLY" 1.1 billion per year. A drop in the bucket for an $800 billion defense budget. From what I have seen your guesses for why upgrade the F22 are spot on. The next gen fighter is a little behind schedule. It's just cheaper to upgrade the F22, plus the remainder of the US fleet just cant do what the F22 can do.
@@MStrange88 , China's window of opportunity to seize Taiwan is closing. Our allies in Asia are improving their militaries. China's economic growth and population are stalling. The American military's ability to thwart China's A2/AD strategy is improving. If they are going to make their move on Taiwan, it will be in the next several years.
US has already been flying some F-35 and F-22 alongside its AI loyal wingman aka Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) XQ-58 Valkyrie and X-67A. The Merge is a podcast by a former USAF pilot that also took part in the AI vs Human fighter pilot dogfight competition. He recently had General Atomic and Anduril on the podcast together to talk about the CCA program.
The Air Force has put the NGAD fighter program on hold, which is what was supposed to replace the F-22. The decision was made for budgetary reasons, as well as some apparent disagreements regarding certain aspects of what had been planned, how it should fill it's role in the face of changing military threats, and how it should be developed moving forward. They haven't abandoned the project entirely, but are reevaluating what direction they want to take from the ground up. It's worth noting that, while the Air Force has the largest budget in the US Armed Forces, it is also spending billions on the new B-21s, F-35s, updated F-15s, the development of the SR-72, and any number of other projects (which the public does and does not know about), and many of those projects have experienced significant cost overruns and delays. This is also occurring while we have been having some not insignificant economic and domestic problems, geopolitical issues affecting the global supply chain, have/will be spending (conservatively) a quarter of a trillion dollars supporting Ukraine (both in direct aid and money spent within the US to support the war effort), and have started a multi-year, $2 trillion project revamping our nuclear triad (which is already seeing cost overruns). The F-35, despite its strengths and hefty price tag, falls far short of the F-22 in certain key areas, and was not designed to take on its role. The estimated cost of building those capabilities out for the F-22's NGAD replacement was resulting in an estimated price of at least twice what the F-35s cost. The Air Force wasn't comfortable with that, and decided to press pause while they reevaluate and try to get the costs down. They probably won't, but, even if they do bring the price down, the upgrades to the F-22s will be significantly cheaper, and can be done quicker. However, the Navy also has its own NGAD program to replace its F-18 aircraft (which have considerably less advantage than the F-22s do). That program is still moving forward, and the Navy is looking to take delivery/start retiring the F-18s in the early 2030's. Given the rising tensions and military buildup in the Pacific, the Navy views this as a top priority.
Keep in mind that most of these upgrades are stealthy pylons/hard-points which can be applied to other aircraft latter. The F-22 is the ideal testing platform due to its maneuverability and stealth. These upgrades can have a long lasting effect on military aviation.
F22 Raptor mechanic here- that 11 billion doesn’t necessarily mean it’d all to just those few upgrades. For every cool thing you see in this super Raptor video. Imagine the upgrades the public doesn’t get to know. I promise that just one f22 will handle every su-57 Russia has available
Upgrading is part of the program. All vehicles have upgrade programs and are always get more and more upgrades. Just how we role. And How the B52 is still a thing.
The issue is that some are more upgradeable than others. (Like the B-52) Some of the older aircraft can be modified with little loss for the most part. The thing stopping them is if it becomes cheaper to design a replacement than the upgrade. The F-22 and B-2 were pioneers of their time. Unforunately, the stealth coating and design limit just how much they can be upgraded. It is part of the reason so much money went into the F-35 as it was designed to be more modular with less that is hardwired into the system leaving crucial components that can be easily removed and replaced. This is not only great for repairs but upgrades. The F-22 and B-2 are not modular and therefore cannot be upgraded to the level that the USAF needs them to be. The upcoming B-21 is modular like the F-35. It is just the painful stepping stones of new technology. The 6th gen NGAD and FA-XX will also be modular to avoid these extensive costs in the future.
As others have pointed out - the F-35 is a general purpose airframe designed to be pretty good at everything, stealthy, and data link capable (which is huge-er than people realize). The F-22 was designed to kill absolutely everything that ever looked at a bird and thought flying was cool. You send 35's to handle lots of jobs and improve the capabilities of your whole theater. You send 22's to kill an air force.
As to the F35 Government Accountability Office report in September 2023 found that F-35s break down more often than expected and take too long to repair. The Pentagon has set a goal of 60 days for repair times, but as of February 2023, the average time to cycle an F-35 through the depot process was 141 days.
I’ll tell you a secret that isn’t such a secret. When the press talks about upcoming military gear, and by the time a view of tests, mock-ups, and testing. The item is already in use and being delivered in many cases.
20:43 pilots have been able to do this for 60 years, well ours have. A lot of the modern US stuff is also heavily interconnected. So you can have target acquisition on a boat, go hey theres a thing here, and then it pings the plane and says fire here. Or vice versa.
The rumors I’ve heard floating around is that they’ve kind of pushed back 6th gen because we’ve realized we’re so far ahead of our enemies that it’s basically pointless to keep working on 6th gen when our 5th gens are so advanced compared to everything else so they could put that money into upgrades rather than new gen aircraft. But that’s just the rumors I’ve heard
@@bravoA-su8xm the USAF just confirmed the existence of SR-72 Blackbirds. Just saying. And they already have a "son of the Blackbird" called the Darkstar. So we might already be making "7th Gen" aircraft.
F-22 like the new gen fighters will have a pack of drone "wing men" (quite literally) and the new missiles will loiter until the pilot or the drones claim a good, verified target. For example F-22 pilot might say "D47 Alpha" drone has identified an SU-57 inbound 110 miles and target is now acquired, then "Charlie Bravo 6" (an F35 pilot) is out of missiles and an SU-27 is rapidly approaching him at 92 miles and we are now locked for him. It will be teamwork among AWACS, F fighters, and packs of high-end expensive drones and UAV. The big drone wing men will also internally carry some missiles from what I hear so an F-22 or F-35 is the equivalent of a "carrier group in the sky". That is the new doctrine.
The F-22's main drawback is the fact it wasn't made to be modular, like the F-35. It means that any super-secret stuff the government wants to throw into it is in it gets shipped off in an export. It's this why I believe it was made illegal to sell abroad. Also, the F-22 was built on old philosophy: dog fighting. Since the creation of radar-guided missiles, air to air combat is essentially a sniper duel, meaning that the most important things to have are great radars, reliable missiles, stealth, and effective countermeasures. Since the F-22 couldn't accept modular upgrades, it was always at risk of falling behind without a massive infusion of cash. Honestly, the F-22 didn't even fulfill the military's own requirements when they were putting up a contract for bidding. The competitor for the F-22 was the YF-23 Black Widow, made by Northrup Gruman. It wasn't as maneuverable, but reportedly much more stealthy, which is what the government wanted. However, Lockheed & Martin won the contract. One speculation as to why this was the case was the fact that Northrup Gruman already had a contract for the B-2 Spirit and Lockheed & Martin had nothing. So allegedly, the government awarded the contract to Lockheed & Martin to keep them from going under, not because their design was better. Growling Sidewinder has a great video on the YF-23 and its history and features a simulator battle between the YF-23 and F-22.
AWACS would see the target and verify it before the F22. A benefit of beyond visual range is that a squadron of say F-18s could be miles ahead of the F22 and target the enemy first. The enemy will think there's only F-18s in the area meanwhile the F-18s already targeted them for the F22 and there's a Mach 5 weapon solution heading their way and they don't even know it. It's pretty smart.
At a certain point, you're not building to fight other Humans. You're building to fight Cylons, or Klingons, or The Empire. It's nice to be better, but second place cant even keep up.
The Chinese stealth fighter is no way near as stealthy as the F22 and F35. We've tacked it on radar several times. Neither is the Russian stealth fighter, we've tracked it as well. Both have a radar cross section of square meters unlike the F22 and F35 the size of a marble or bumble bee.
I don’t think these upgrades have anything to do with problems with the NGAD. The US has been updating planes like the B-52 bomber for over half a century because it’s just that good so having a better upgraded F-22 is just par for the course.
12:13, if I remember correctly, they are upgrading the raptor because the leap in capability between 5th and 6th gen fighters isn’t enough to warrant the high price tag YET
It's a deff a good-looking jet, but personally, when the F-15 EX has its wheels tucked and wings swept back. Man, that thing looks really, really nice!
The difference is the f-35 is a multi-role fighter that can do air superiority missions but it's not what it was solely designed for, the f-22 however is a air superiority fighter that can carry ground attack weapons.
Since the raptor is the most lethal thing in the sky can we give it an unofficial nickname like the A-10. Call it the grim reaper. Or some good of death from some mythology. The Morrigan from Celtic mythology is perfect. Goddess of death and war also referred to as the Phantom Queen
It's because we have the jet now instead of waiting for the NGAD, we probably also chose the F22 because it is faster and just slightly more stealthy than the F35. With the Tech we have now, we can get the full potential from the F22 that was always meant to be. As well as we only have 186 F22's. There's a damn good reason why we have never and may never export the F22. The AIM260 can also be used as an Anti-Ship missle we well.
Couldn't agree more with you on your bit about the negative effects of distancing yourself from the enemy in warfare. The further away you place yourself, the less real it is. Wiping a village off the map is a lot easier when it's on the other side of a screen and it would make it a lot easier to lose any semblance of humanity. Whilst I understand a need to prevent losses for your own forces, this seems like a slippery slope.
The F22 and F35 hold different roles and to some extent shouldn't be compared. The decision to upgrade is simple. Reduce maintenance, not take on cost of releasing a whole new series of dogfighter, also look at the improvements made made on the A10 for example. For less than 1/10 of the cost you can reoutfit/redesign and upgrade lethality tremendously. I think this is a good call to extend this aircraft for another 15-25 years while being in development stages of a new air superiority fighter.
Shooting beyond visual range... Generally there are systems that are monitoring and tracking entire large areas of airspace. In theory, all friendly pilots will know where all other friendly pilots are, and we should also know where all commercial traffic is as well. Plus commercial air traffic will avoid an active warzone. So in theory, anything else in the sky is an enemy. That is a simple overview, but there are a ton of systems to monitor an airspace and link that information to all assets.
20:17 IFF is your friend. The jet will send a signal, and if it is friendly it will get a signal in return saying “I’m friendly” It’s easier to know who is friend or foe when your jet does the work for you.
The reason they were going to cancel the f22 is because the lack of near peer adversaries to use them against. They are super expensive to build and maintain and if you don't need that level of absolute air power than there is very little reason to keep them. Basically we have been focused on fighting folks who can't fucking fly anything bigger than a amazon drone so we had no need to be able to out fly them.... Until Russia and China decided to start fucking around again and now there is a chance that we might need them so we are bringing them back and upgrading them for the possible threat.
I know what the pods are for. Any one ever heard of the Ghost bat? Autonomous drone wingmen that drop up to eight decoys each. The pods can control up to five Ghost bats. Let's do the math. Enemy radar sees 45 aircraft and they don't see the f22. The second pod is for IR sensor array and cooperative communication between peers. This means the F22 can target using another aircrafts lock or lock a target for ship to air/shore attack. Any questions? Hit me up.
I wish people would stop talking about the SU-57 “5th Gen” as a competitor ,..they ONLY HAVE between 5 and 7 of them left and 2 of those are air show aircraft. They cancelled their program nearly a decade ago after producing only 10 and several crashing in accidents . It’s not a threat and never will be becasue they only have 3 combat ready jets ,.PERIOD! Also becasue as we’ve seen in Ukraine , Russia won’t even fly them near the ukraine border in fear of getting shot down and getting one captured for the US to get a look at.
THe US Military ALWAY underestimates his combat capabilities during fleet exercises and land exercises. So, them saying that no one will have air superiority is a red herring.
People often don’t realize that stealth not only helps with making it much difficult to detect, but it makes it particularly difficult to get a radar lock onto the aircraft. Imagine that if it’s difficult for a large and powerful SAM site has just detecting it, the stealth makes it especially difficult for the seeker head of a missile to get a lock onto the aircraft.
They have to completely remake the computers and comms systems for the F22 to be able to talk to other systems and be better than F15-EX and F35's because they were originally built as it was. They didn't make upgradable parts per se.
‘Super Raptor’ wouldn’t be the first ‘super combat plane’. The F/A-18 Hornet fleet we fielded at sea back in the 1980s has been entirely upgraded to F/A-18 Super Hornets, which are less like upgrades, and instead are entirely new airframes. However, the primary limiting factor upon our F-22 fleet to begin with is our inability to build new airframes. When the program was cancelled, Lockheed and Co. repurposed all F-22 factories, making it impossible to build more.
The Super Hornets are new airframes and not just upgardes! The super hornets are way bigger and beefier in every way. The hornet was made at the same time the F16s was, they was actually in a contest against each other to see which the USAF was going to buy the USAF chose the F16 but the Navy wanted a 2 engine jet so they got the F18. The F18 was named the F17 in the contest!
They’re saying that there’s still no other fighter today or that will be built within the next 15/20 yrs that will ever be equal to the raptor . But I’ll bet the DoD wished they would’ve built all 700 fighters today. Had we built all 700 fighters there would be no country on earth who could’ve bet us in a fight. Especially when you consider we still have our F-35 , New F-15EX , F-15 ,F18 ,F-18, and F-16’s still in service today. Our military would’ve been unstoppable by China or Russia. We would’ve been able to defeat fighting both countries at the same time easily too !
You know with the state of things I fully believe we could easily take them both now as far as tech, equipment, and info sharing to all our troops and different strike groups not on man power(total infantry size)but as far as the individual soldier we have better but I'm not putting down the spetsnaz they are well trained but not the hole of the Russian army

I think the F22 is as cool as anyone els but The only reason we’re upgrading the F22 a plane we can’t get new parts or airframes for because we stopped production so long ago is because we’re expecting a major power war before we can have the NGAD 6th gen fighters AND there drone wingmen/escorts ready
I'd agree that the F22 is one of the most beautiful fighters ever made--just in my opinion that prize is still held by the WWII Spitfire. It was visual poetry in the air
BVR, beyond visual range is considered eye ball range, so radar will likely pick it up, while two stealth fighters will likely got so close they might just mutual kill. But when it's Raptor vs non stealth it's radar can find it and then IFF (Interogate Friend or Foe) does it's thing
F-35 does actually contain generally more advanced tech than F-22. The law banning F-22 export was created in the late 1990s, when the tech was a lot more sensitive, and these export restrictions tend to almost never be reviewed later down the line, even if the tech is no longer as cutting edge as it once was. Classic example, the USA couldn't send Ukraine M1A2 Abrams tanks because the depleted uranium armour was subject to an export restriction nearly 30 years old, and absolutely irrelevant in the present day, when more modern and advanced armours have been produced, and the USA's adversaries have a pretty solid idea of how that depleted uranium armour works already.
@@Steve-318 F-35's stealth is more modern and advanced. The US just tends to never lift export restrictions, even if the passage of time renders the original reason for them obsolete. F-22 being export banned in 1998 made sense. Being export banned in 2024 doesn't, but as they're not making more, there's no reason to lift the ban. Basically... F-35 is actually more advanced, but the US is now willing to export that level of tech when in the 90s they were not.
In a Jet you can fire on Beyond visual range because the targeting computers in the plane as well satellite and awacs can tell by the direction speed and altitude that what you are shooting at is an enemy plane.
I think the F22 upgrade is a "smoke and mirror" tactic, this is to make our enemies possibly think the Gen 6 fighter is having problems when it is actually not.
A drone can now identify and lock a target and then piggyback the information back to and launch platform (a plane, himars, ship) via any system connected to said drone
21:00 my guess is that soldiers are in a combat space with non combatants so shooting at only people who shoot at you reduces collateral casualties. In contested airspace you dont have that worry. Plus I think modern computers can tell what a plane is based on radar signature.
I've been trying to tell people for the past 2 years they weren't going to drop the raptor when everybody said. But he's sitting here talking about it isn't done yet but it is. The raptors upgrades were finished in 2023 of August. At least that's when it was scheduled to be done this upgrade would have gave it new electronics, a battle helmet that locates the targets and you visually lock onto them with your eyes and destroy them. The others is a much higher defense system which can locate any radar system and basically make it look like the raptor doesn't exist. I've also heard they upgraded the raptors speed, and the ability to carry more weapons.
I question the air-superiority match with China, they are 'assuming' that the Chinese fighters really match what they put out on paper. As we have seen with Russia, that ain't always true.
The J20 might actually be pretty good. If we look at only the specs we know for sure, its actually pretty competitive. While the layout do compromise dog fight, it does improve range and carry capacity. Where the real question is in the electronics and stealth ability. The thing is that we will not truly know that either until its war, or like 30 year into the future when both planes are in a museum. We really just recently get to know some of the secretes of the F14, and its over 50 years old. Before the super raptor, it was she super hornet, and before that there was like 5 other planes that got the same treatment.
Imagine being so advanced, you never get to fight, lol. "But it was downed in a war game," yes. Because in war games, we use drop tanks so they're slower, and the stealth features don't work.
the reason for bfr missle launch is due to american sensor being superior to what the chinese may currently have. The idea is through the upgraded comms the f22 along with any f35 and awacs aloft in theater of op will be able to id friend or foe. Basically if you're not connected, chances are you are foe, therefore a target. Therefore warranting a fire and forget missle
The US has a 6th generation fighter near complete, but there is just no reason for it. The US is still 20-30 years ahead of Russia and China when it comes to something like this. See the US made the F-15 to counter what Russia said their aircraft were capable of. It turned out Russia lied and the US made the F-15 so it could beat something that never existed. It was so much better than anything Russia has yet built...40 years later. The F-16 was even better than anything Russia had and could likely even beat the Su-35. The F-35 and F-22 were made solely to add stealth. There was no major reason to justify the cost. So they have put the 6th generation on hold until it looks like Russia or China might have a serious threat against the F-35 and F-22. They were not planning on upgrading the F-22, but decided it was far cheaper to put the 6th generation on hold indefinitely and just upgrade the F-22.
The goal of a missile that can shoot further than sight is to waste money. We had them in Vietnam and we couldn’t use them until we got visual confirmation
I think if you're in the air and allow the enemy to fire first, you may never get a chance to fire at the enemy. So you either fire first or you may die quickly.
Sleep deprived and over caffeinated design engineer: "Ok, so hear me out. You might wanna sit down. So you know the Warthog, right? What about a Super Warthog? This might sound crazy, but just think of it. One GAU-8 is cool and all, but what if we could give the Warthog TWO OF THEM? We could even give it a third engine shaped like a cape..." United States Airforce: "Did you forget your meds this morning?" Turns over its shoulder and mutters, "Write that down..."
One of the absolutely gorgeous art of any plane I've ever seen, the military found out that the F-22 is way better so they upgrading weapons and electronic warfare and I'm pretty sure some other things that we will not know about. The world is getting worse, not better, when the F-22 went up and gets the F15's in dog fights the F15's all got shut down
The rules stay the same with beyond visual range. You cannot fire unless you’ve been fired upon or you have declared war. A lot of effort is put into ensuring that it’s not a friendly aircraft. You can do this without being able to see the aircraft up close. The reason you want a missile that can score beyond visual range kills is because when you are engaging, you want to be able to outrange your opponent. If you can fire a missile from 30 miles out but your opponent can only fire 20 miles out, then you can park yourself outside of the range of their missiles and fire missiles at them. But it’s not so you can lob missiles at random radar contacts just in case.
Maybe they have the ok to shoot beyond visual range because there is a bad guy jet in the battle space? Also shooting drones and missles without having to make eye contact?
You should have known that they were never gonna retire the F22. Anything that is so classified that our government passed a law forbidding the sale of it to anyone says everything
16:30 $77M per airframe, so that is pretty cheap considering a F35 is closer to 100M. And the $77M include R&D for a aircraft that is considerably more capable than the F35. SO basically they get more for less in steed of scrapping the F22, that it self would carry a certain cost.
Point is the same as to why the a10 is still in service. If it's not broken don't fix it. We have the airframe and it has no rival. Just make them better and hold back your highest tech until the time you need it. It made no sense to park them when you have so much invested to begin with.

Tax money well spent in my mind keep us safe raptor
The regular F-22 is too super that it’s illegal to sell it to our close allies. A super F-22 must be mind boggling.
Exactly
Unless I'm mistaken, infrared search is less detectable than radar, if not undetectable. One of the ways to know an F-22 is in the area is detecting its own radar scanning and/or locking your aircraft. If infrared has good range, there's even less chance of knowing an F-22 (marble on radar) is sneaking up on you until a missile launch or gun shot, which isn't a good way to find out you're being engaged by an F-22.
can you elaborate?
F22 has passive sensors to track and target enemy aircraft, also it can utilize off board sensing like awacs or f35. Irst is the way to track and target stealth or LO aircraft which is why we saw f22 and others flying around with mirrored like body panels
IRST is a passive tracking system yes, as in it sends out no signals for any other aircraft or sensor to pick up on unlike radar. Alex Holling at Sandbox news on YT has a very good new video on the upgrades that answers all of the questions that this video doesn't
@@mccoybyz1099 It only got those after a recent upgrade and it isn't IRST, more like EOTS. The F-22 does have MAWS.

Plus, if we need that added capability before the NGAD arrives, it will be priceless.
Or is it the NGAD is so advanced we don't want to risk the plans getting out until we have to make it........
And they think we need an upgrade sooner rather than later which is a little scary.

The Buff will be around for the heat death of the universe.
As to the F35
Government Accountability Office report in September 2023 found that F-35s break down more often than expected and take too long to repair. The Pentagon has set a goal of 60 days for repair times, but as of February 2023, the average time to cycle an F-35 through the depot process was 141 days.
You seem like a good dude so i subscribed. I believe good people should receive good things. Good luck man
I’ll tell you a secret that isn’t such a secret.
The 6th Gen is already out . In fact it’s been around for a while. All those UFO sightings people see across the country is the 6th Gen fighters .
Or we want them to think the 6th gen is decked but is actually roaming the sky's 🤔
@@bravoA-su8xm the USAF just confirmed the existence of SR-72 Blackbirds. Just saying. And they already have a "son of the Blackbird" called the Darkstar. So we might already be making "7th Gen" aircraft.
The new F 15 EX is so far ahead of the foreign competition that the F 22 is icing on the air supremacy cake.
Ah yes, our proud 900 billion dollar defense budget. We may be in debt to other countries, but who’s gonna collect it lmao
LMAO thanks I needed that that's a good one all of no hate unlike the F-22 raptor which is fuck shit up don't love it
The F-22's main drawback is the fact it wasn't made to be modular, like the F-35.
Same with the A-6 as well.
The F22 was slated to be retired in 2030 but that decision has been reversed
The f22 will probably be our first gen 6 fighter. It’s almost 35 years old and and technology is still catching up to it.
12:13, if I remember correctly, they are upgrading the raptor because the leap in capability between 5th and 6th gen fighters isn’t enough to warrant the high price tag YET
My best guess is that the F22 upgrades are the prototype gen 6 equipment for testing and improvements infield testing
It's a deff a good-looking jet, but personally, when the F-15 EX has its wheels tucked and wings swept back. Man, that thing looks really, really nice!
The f15 doesn’t have a variable swept wing. But the F-14 does
The difference is the f-35 is a multi-role fighter that can do air superiority missions but it's not what it was solely designed for, the f-22 however is a air superiority fighter that can carry ground attack weapons.
Since the raptor is the most lethal thing in the sky can we give it an unofficial nickname like the A-10. Call it the grim reaper. Or some good of death from some mythology. The Morrigan from Celtic mythology is perfect. Goddess of death and war also referred to as the Phantom Queen
Could go with the sky reaper instead of grim reaper what do you think?
Raptor itself is already badass
If they get the drone wingmen to work, there may never be another air superiority fighter as we understand it. Not maned.
The jet will send a signal, and if it is friendly it will get a signal in return saying “I’m friendly”
It’s easier to know who is friend or foe when your jet does the work for you.
Hit me up.
General Atomics and Anduril got the first 2 contracts for the USAF CCA program. Ghost bat is not mentioned at all by USAF.
The military probably hired Kirby Smart to get a team together for something like this.

NGAID IS ALREADY FLYING.
THe US Military ALWAY underestimates his combat capabilities during fleet exercises and land exercises. So, them saying that no one will have air superiority is a red herring.
It's the down play syndrome
People often don’t realize that stealth not only helps with making it much difficult to detect, but it makes it particularly difficult to get a radar lock onto the aircraft. Imagine that if it’s difficult for a large and powerful SAM site has just detecting it, the stealth makes it especially difficult for the seeker head of a missile to get a lock onto the aircraft.
They have to completely remake the computers and comms systems for the F22 to be able to talk to other systems and be better than F15-EX and F35's because they were originally built as it was. They didn't make upgradable parts per se.
I enjoy your channel a lot
‘Super Raptor’ wouldn’t be the first ‘super combat plane’. The F/A-18 Hornet fleet we fielded at sea back in the 1980s has been entirely upgraded to F/A-18 Super Hornets, which are less like upgrades, and instead are entirely new airframes. However, the primary limiting factor upon our F-22 fleet to begin with is our inability to build new airframes. When the program was cancelled, Lockheed and Co. repurposed all F-22 factories, making it impossible to build more.
I didn't know that thank you
The Super Hornets are new airframes and not just upgardes!

The whole idea of beyond visual range is normal for aircraft combat. Think about how limited your eyes are compared to radar and misels.
As a New Yorker from Long Island, I loved that he used us as a measuring stick😂
I'd agree that the F22 is one of the most beautiful fighters ever made--just in my opinion that prize is still held by the WWII Spitfire. It was visual poetry in the air
That's equipment, installation, maintenance over 10 years. $20k a day lol
They use AWACS aircraft that point out targets hundreds of miles away
BVR, beyond visual range is considered eye ball range, so radar will likely pick it up, while two stealth fighters will likely got so close they might just mutual kill. But when it's Raptor vs non stealth it's radar can find it and then IFF (Interogate Friend or Foe) does it's thing
"If looks could kill they probably will in games without frontiers, war without tears"...Peter Gabriel.
F22 is so good that the US govt passed a law banning their export, F35 however is wildly exported
The F-22 remains exclusive to the US due to classified stealth tech to prevent foreign threats. We also just can't make any more for various reasons.
The F35 is jointly developed by the US and its allies, hence why it’s also exported.
In a Jet you can fire on Beyond visual range because the targeting computers in the plane as well satellite and awacs can tell by the direction speed and altitude that what you are shooting at is an enemy plane.
They are STILL upgrading the B-52 for crying out loud!
The Buff is Forever😂😂😂😂
I think the F22 upgrade is a "smoke and mirror" tactic, this is to make our enemies possibly think the Gen 6 fighter is having problems when it is actually not.
A drone can now identify and lock a target and then piggyback the information back to and launch platform (a plane, himars, ship) via any system connected to said drone
Great job on your reaction video... Love what you are doing...
21:00 my guess is that soldiers are in a combat space with non combatants so shooting at only people who shoot at you reduces collateral casualties. In contested airspace you dont have that worry. Plus I think modern computers can tell what a plane is based on radar signature.

Supah dupaha troopah. Raptor is insane
Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) with also Datalink is how they will identify targets. Its what they use now for BVR combat or Beyond Visual Range.
With the AIM if I'm not mistaken the F22 can fire the missile and an aircraft or drone within sight of the target can pick up the AIM and target it.
The F-22 is unmatched in air to air combat. It's never even had a live intercept because every other country is scared to try it..

The “fly away” cost was around $150 mill per plane.
Would you intercept me I would intercept me

I can assure everyone there is already a Gen-6 Fighter already in the us arsenal
USAF doesn't settle at parity, they only deal with overmatch
Maybe they have the ok to shoot beyond visual range because there is a bad guy jet in the battle space? Also shooting drones and missles without having to make eye contact?
We are still 40 years old overall ahead of most countries and the ones we aren’t are vital trade partners
The NGAD program is the developement program to make the Raptor's Successor and the F-22 is being used to develope some of the NGAD systems.
Joyeux Noël is the name of a movie that covers the 1914 Xmas truce. Worth watching.
Point is the same as to why the a10 is still in service. If it's not broken don't fix it. We have the airframe and it has no rival. Just make them better and hold back your highest tech until the time you need it. It made no sense to park them when you have so much invested to begin with.
