I’m sure that many writers would gladly take credit for the 25% of his writings that Billy Joel would throw away. Billy Joel’s music grabs at me, my heart and soul more than any other artist out there. When I reach my low points I listen to Billy Joel to pull me up.
I had the great honor to talk to Billy in 1991 for 15 min. at the lobby of an hotel after one of his shows. I gave him an album I recorded 3 years before. He is as humble as he is talented. I still can't believe I had a small conversation with such a LEGEND of our time. I cherish the picture I have with him. BILLY JOEL FOREVER!
I'm 52 now (1967). I started listening to Joel in 76 when I was only 9-years old. Hearing his music then, seeing his growing catalog over the years, an noting that everything he did was completely hoisted from his own gray matter (words an music by Billy Joel) gave me a tremendous respect for him. I only play three composers for family, friends, and the occasional piano house when asked do so, Beethoven, Chopin , and Joel. As far as I'm concerned he's the best lyricist + composer of my generation. That he did both just seals the deal. And of course, that he dated and/or married a slew of supermodels was just fuel to the legend.
I brought my dad for his 48th birthday in 2018 to see him play at MSG. It was the best concert he and I have ever been to (between the both of us we have seen over 100 shows) it was a night I will never forget.

I saw Billy Joel back in 1986 and it was freaking awesome. It was kind of funny he was joking with some guy in the audience he asked the guy to throw him his wallet and the guy did, and Billy said you don’t throw your wallet to a complete stranger. I’m thinking to myself you’re not a complete stranger he may not know you personally but he knows who you are.

I grew up loving his music. I sang his songs in concerts. He consoled me when I was hurt and lost. Billy Joel pretty much wrote and sung the music of my life. I love this man for all he has meant to so many people and especially what he has meant for music.
