- Welcome to our new flower studio.
We've lived at Common Farm for twenty years and for all of those twenty years there has been a falling down barn in the middle of the field, almost suffocated by bramble. So after many years of building the business and saving our pennies we've finally turned it into a useful building and I'm moving the flower farming business up there. Now, after fifteen years of running the business from the house, where I shared my studio space with the family bicycles, Fabrizio's wood working and art supplies, and had to rearrange every time anyone wanted to hold a big family occasion, I will have a space which I can leave at the end of the day and find the same upon my return the next morning. For the first time in fifteen years I'll be able to shut the door on work at the end of the day and physically walk away from it. I have a commute!
Bon, welcome to my new flower studio. It is anything but finished, but at some point one must just move in. There is plenty still to do, but I've made the leap up the field and it feels great, even if most of the contents of the old studio still need putting away.
This will be my new flower farming, floristry and vlogging space. From here will come all my online workshops and demos and this is where I'll host students when they visit the farm. Visit the website for details of workshops and tours taking place at the farm www.commonfarmflowers.com/col...

The hedge, is a hedge not a piece of topiary. The insects,.birds etc are very grateful.

Straight line angle, winky wonky hedge with the odd weed, old table with a hole in it, we don’t care, we think your videos are fabulous and don’t care a hoot, (also said by the wise old owl). Loving the new studio, you have done so well to get this far, I know from my own experience that building works always take twice as long to do as you think and always cost more than originally quoted. How wonderful to at last have your own space. I wonder if Googie and your Dad watch your videos they must be soooooo proud of you, I know all your viewers are too. With love from Tina and Richard xx

Love the new studio, the door and flap arrangement is ingenious to keep the heat in, the design overall is very well planned. I always thought the hole in the table was for dropping rubbish through into a compost bucket !

Congratulations on the new studio & moving in to it. I love the soft pink plaster colour & finish. I hope you hang stuff to dry in the loft space, as I think it would look & smell lovely. It will be great seeing it develop. x
PS if your tripod has a hook underneath it hang a bag of rocks from it to make it more stable/less top heavy

I so relate to wanting a space of your own. I have a 18 yr old at home and I'm raising two grandchildren by myself at 55. Some days I feel ran out of my own house. What I'd give for some alone time but how alone I'd be without them.

Georgie, the new studio looks great. I like the idea of the store room. Take your time to arrange it the way you want it to look. I think that you will miss the occasional disturbance. I can just recall you saying:"I am filming" 😂. Tea-cake will find you very easily out there. You are a pro in flower arranging. I watched you make that beautiful huge arrangement. You are a natural. Some people now don’t understand what a hedgerow is unlike our forefathers who relied on them for a myriad of reasons. A good teaching lesson Georgie❣️❣️❣️love celebrating your new workshop, it’s lovely…congratulations!!

Brill new studio - although all that concrete flooring would murder my feet and ankles! Would putting down a couple of those thick, bouncy rubber standing mats on the floor, beside the tables, help avoid this? We had them in the book trade, where you're standing in a bookshop all day, and they make life bearable for your poor feet. They just provide a bouncy barrier between your feet and the hard floor - you know what they say - happy feet means a happy day! They might also help with the echoing room. As far as the messy hedge goes - I loathe tidy gardens! That wonky hedge looks very inviting to lots of insects and birds. Anyone who objects to a lack of perfection, probably trims their lawns with a pair of nail scissors! I'm a big fan of Prof Dave Goulson's books - 'The Garden Jungle', 'A Buzz in the Meadow,' and 'Silent Earth - Averting the Insect Apocalypse' - he writes so passionately about just leaving nature alone to thrive and bloom, and is a defiantly untidy gardener. No spraying, no pruning, just let it run wild as far as your acreage will allow, and you will be rewarded with an eco system that sustains itself - and nourishes you.
weirdly I've been working on exactly the same surface for years in the other space and my feet don't mind it - my theory is that because I'm short in stature and broad in back my centre of gravity is low so balance easy so feet don't hurt - xxx

Georgie, it is your hedge. It is your right to have the hedge specifically for wildlife. This is more important than looks. Some people are so opinionated. It doesn’t make them right it is just their opinion.
