Thanks for your efforts in putting this together. Watched every episode this afternoon and loved it. One of my favourite ever horses, possibly number one.
Thank you. My pleasure, sorry the uploads got bit messy, my old laptop wouldn't rip the whole dvd, so I uploaded part of it, then managed to upload the rest once I got my new laptop. I've done some videos of Neptune Collonges, my other favourite, and ill be uploading plenty of John Hales new grey Ittack Blue, who'll hopefully be a star this season. One Man was a very special horse, and this is a very beautiful video.
I was in the navy in my early 20s when he was running. I can place where I was watching back all of his races. I had persuaded some non-betting mates to get on for the Hennessay. I was in sickbay with torn ligaments for the RSA, got my mate to go into town and get my bet on. Had an even larger bet on the Gold Cup, watched it in Plymouth and was counting my cash with three to go. The following year I picked out Mr Mulligan at 20s, had the fear as the big grey loomed up behind. Felt slightly guilty as I saw him hit the wall and roared MM home. One thing I had forgotten was how horrific his fall was at Kempton. How fortunate the horse and all of us were. I'll keep my eye out for Ittack.
Thats a great story, I love hearing from passionate racing fans who love the horses as much as i do, One Mans Henessy win, was the day I got my first tattoo, and I always think of that, and his death, was literally the only time in my life, I didn't have time off to watch it as I'd just started a new job, bit for some reason, I looked at the clock and minutes later , I felt sick to my stomach, and I thought 'he's dead!' Was like a sixth sense, then 20 minutes later I got a phone call, and was so upset, I was sent home, the following day, I went to Aintree, but my other favourite Suny Bay was running in the Grand National on heavy ground with 12st and I was worried sick .
@@leighmerlin Yes he was ,love horses very much especially One man . Heart broken when he died ,never knew I could cry over a horse until that happened. I grew very fond of that horse over the years following him . Always look out for John Hales colours and hope his horse Protectorat will win the Gold cup for him ,its his holy grail of horse races to win .
John Hales is an incredible man, and he loves his greys like me, I'm hoping to go to ShawFarm Stud one day, to see all those horses in retirement, and pay my respects to One Man who rests there.
His death was certainly something ill never forget. Dark ivy's Grand National death when I was a 13yo boy, almost ended racing for me, I learned to 'numb it out' when anything happens, but One Man's death was the next one that broke my heart.
@@leighmerlin One Man made me love racing and hate it all in one. I remember that year well and just a day later one of my other favourite greys, Suny Bay, came second again in the GN. I really struggle to watch the GN these days incase there's bad falls. But i'm rooting for Bristol De Mai and Lakeview Lad.
@@carina914 SNAP!! I was so worried for Suny Bay the day after One Man's death. I love the Grand National and desperately wanted to see a grey win, so I'm glad it was Neptune in the One Man colours. Bristol de mai has the same profile as Neptune. I'm sure he can do it!! Fingers crossed.
@@leighmerlin Seeing Neptune win was brilliant, especially for John Hales who deserved a big Aintree success after the heartbreak in 1998. I will put a small bet on Bristol De Mai and hope he comes home safe next weekend
@@leighmerlin I loved this horse.. I was at work when he ran at Aintree.. I had taped the race.. When I got home I found out he had died.. I couldn't watch the race and still haven't to this day.. This excellent video takes me back to some marvelous memories of my favourite horse.. The queen mother at Cheltenham and his first king George are how I remember him.. Many thanks for the upload.
@@GeorgeFreeman55 i was working that day too, and the shop i worked in was opposite a tv rental shop, and i just saw the racing on, and saw the One Man colours, with an ambulance crew around him, and had an awful feeling something had happened. Ive never watched the race either. I love all of the John Hales greys. Am glad Neptune Collonges got his day in the sun at Aintree.
@@leighmerlin yes I'm watching the 4th part tommorow although only up until the Aintree race.. But I thank you for uploading this from One mans biggest fan.. Cried for hours when he died and I've watched him win the champion chase 100s of times on repeat.. Loved many horses since but no horse has ever penetrated my soul like he did..
W.A Stephenson said he be something specialnover the big black uns.
