    THIS IS AMAZING! THANK YOU!
    I'm new to 3D Printing and for modeling, I'm not even a novice yet, but I try. This was the best tutorial I've ever seen for something! I know it's something simple for some more advanced users, but this saved me a ton of time and effort. Again, THANK YOU!.

    another way is that you can just delete them, then use Shift-Alt and click to select all the edges, then press F to create a new face between them.
    or in some cases, like if there are holes you want to maintain and create the face around them, then use Alt-F after selecting all the edges you want to join, including the edges of the hole.

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you do when you try to select a ring of edges, and it doesn’t go all the way around?
      Or - this one drives me nuts - let’s say you have an “O” or some other donut-like hole. i cannot, for the life of me, get Blender to close that up properly when pressing F.

    I really wish someone would do this for RAISED letters given how much more simple it is to duplicate group and fill. it's always the reverse etched letters. are raised letters even possible to isolate? i want to print them seperate and remove them from my existing model. this way i can paint them then epoxy them back on

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! If you're using Blender, TAB into Edit Mode on your object, press 1 to enter vertex mode, and then select all the vertices that describe the lettering, and press P. Those verts will get split off from the object, and will become their own mesh. Then you can export the lettering object as an stl file and print it on its own.
      If you are splitting out recessed lettering like this, your lettering will be "inside out." To fix that,TAB into edit mode on the object, then press 2 to go into Edge mode. Hold down ALT and click one of the edges around the "opening" of a letter. With any luck, it'll select the whole ring of edges. Press F to make that whole thing a face. (You might have to do extra annoying, picky work here with letters like "O") Repeat for all your letters.
      Then press 3 to go into Face mode. Press A to select all faces. Press shift+N to flip the normals so they're no longer inside out. Now it'll be ok to print.
      This is a great question, btw! i should do a follow-up video showing you how to do exactly this.

    Usually inserts have these "95% there" parts because at the time of designing the insert the game is not in a "definitive" final form of the production - doing things this way makes it so you can produce and ship everything faster and you also have some wiggle room when it comes to last-minute changes, additions and promos.

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes - i distinctly suspect that was the case with the Trickerion Collector's Edition, where everything fits absolutely perfectly, except for the Dawn of Technology expansion, which i think was being designed concurrently, and which you just kind of have to... throw on top.

    Is there an easy way to select the font/logo vertices without disturbing structure underneath it?

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One approach i use is to select verts i don’t want to mess with and press H to hide them. ALT-H unhides all hidden things. Pay attention to whether or not you’re in x-ray mode (ALT-Z) or else the things you think you’re selecting throughout the model may not actually get selected.

    That M in the chosen font is very different to the On Mars typography as it dips down to the descender line.

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does! And i didn't notice it until i was editing the video. But the font i chose a replacement (after discovering that font to be hella broken) is a much better match. i think it may even be the one E-G Games used for On Mars.

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      But let's say i didn't find a decent replacement... the M is easily tweaked in the step just before extruding the text to make it thick. TAB to enter Edit Mode, and then select the vertices at the problem part of the M and pull them up a bit!

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you’re in Blender, you may have forgotten to Apply the Boolean operation? Also, Blender likes to export everything when you export as stl. You have to specifically check a box to make sure it only exports what you’ve selected. So you might be exporting both the object, and the letters you had cut into it?

      3d software can be taxing on a computer. i’m not up on which programs are more or less demanding - apologies. i will guess, though, that if you find software that runs on your machine because it’s lighter, it will probably also be less capable than Blender.

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you applying the Boolean to your text mesh, or the piece you’re indenting? It can work both ways, but try applying it to the insert, and then selecting your text mesh as the target. Make sure there aren’t any holes in your text mesh. The moment you pick your Boolean target, it may look like nothing happened… remember to press H to hide your text mesh so you can see the effect.

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm… instead of dissolving the vertices (which kinda “melts” them away but keeps the surrounding geometry), did you delete them (which leaves a giant hole in the model)?

    I always hate the text, not because its often offensive per say, but more so that it over complicates the print, making the print time go way up for something that doesnt need text on it at all.

    • @NightsAroundaTable
      @NightsAroundaTable  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i totally hear that. i'm going in the opposite direction, and am putting MORE text on my inserts, particularly where the text can help with setup - for example, in situations where you have to put x/y/z things on the board depending on player count. Why not etch that directly into your insert so you don't have to crack the manual?
      Anyway, the crucial task imo is choosing a font that matches thematically with the game's text treatment. It's not difficult.
