this christmas ive just put you on for everyone to listen and everytime a rendition from you has come on a new person asks who sang it! you have a voice
Likewise. I bought a banjo because of bury me not on the lone prairie by him. Spent a few years practicing and I'm still not close to this good! Thanks, Sam
This is awesome. I hope you record this one and put it out there. I would love to listen to you playing this stuff while I BARREL DOWN MY COUNTRY ROAD. o/// I am descended from Texan Scots who got kicked out of Scotland for being Jacobites, and your music gives me a determination to keep trucking brother.
Mr Shackleton, another beaut! I can’t wait for another album. Know you the song “Bonnie Charlie no awa”? One of my favorite Scottish folk songs! Anyways, may God bless your heart! Cheers!
Well done Sam! I love your playing. I have Scottish-Canadian ancestry. My great X 3 grandfather came here from the Isle of Lewis in the early 1800's, and settled in Canada. I love Scottish fiddling, and folk songs.
This has been my jam since you put it on youtube. Perfect energy an tempo for the song. An rasp in the voice. Just a great gritty version of an old rebel ballad. The song also goes by the name "the news frae moidart". Just about all the old scots folk groups did versions. I love the Alastair McDonald an Corries version. Silly wizard also does a great version aswell as the McCallmans. But this version stands on its own.
The other versions are excellent (I especially like the Silly Wizard version). But I love the way this version sounds, like this could be your (musically talented) friend talking to you.
I've really come to love your music over the last few months. I'm a beginner player who runs around in Clifton Hicks' circles. I'm working on a rendition of Lone Prairie based on your arrangement. Ramble over to North Carolina sometime soon, I'd love to hear you live! Thank you and keep the songs coming!
Thank you!! Regarding a new album, I’m working on it now, but being completely independent as I am it’s been very hard to juggle releasing an album with touring etc. as a lot of work is involved to make a decent album & make sure it does well! Hope to get one out soon though, most likely some time in the summer!! Cheers!! 🤘🤘
@@sorleythebard That's the best news I've heard all year so far! I hope your touring has been going well. It must be wildy busy for you running the whole show. If you could add more Canadian dates we'd be glad to have you next time you're here, but worst case saves me an excuse to come to Scotland and track down some of my family's history and their stories. Nonetheless looking forward to your next release. Cheers!
Just recently started listening to your music and this song is absolute fire🔥🔥🔥 would love to see you make more records with music like this! You are a beautiful singer and your banjo playing is killer! Truly my kinda music. So happy I found your videos! ❤❤❤
Keep the great music coming! Im from the states and love hearing all your music! I know its Irish not Scottish but I would love to hear your rendition of Mary O’conner
As a Orange man from Northern Ireland, loyal to the protestant faith and all the revolution delivered us. I'd buy that man a pint, fair play, I respect true Jacobites if he is as such. 🍻
If you were to inspect the rank an file of the Jacobite army of 1745, you'd find the majority of them, aswell as some of the leadership, were non juring Episcopalians. Protestants. By the time the 45 started, Scotlands population was less than 5 percent Catholic.
Great song and well done! As to Cherlie, if he hadn't been such a pisshead he'd have made better friends with the French, left a Jacobite bairn after him for the throne, and the world would be a different place today. But here we are 😅 And at least we've got good songs to remember the numpty by 😂🍻
I was gutted when I learned you were on the east coast US with the Mary Wallopers and I missed it! Come back soon!

Great clawhammer technique, your beautiful, wonderful vocal projection. Big Iron is ACAB though unfortunately
Any plans to come Manchester ways Sam?

The masculine urge to travel to Liechtenstein and convince Joseph Wenzel to invade Scotland and reclaim his ancestral throne.
Is this in mirror image, or are you in fact playing a left-handed banjo?!
I'll buy the pints and the food for the night if you come to paris
Didn't know Scott's like the banjo. . .

Very nice version, I thought I'd heard every possible iteration of this one but you really make it your own.
