I will always be a fan of the Eldraine wishing well islands. Outside of that I have several boxes full of inlimited and revised basics, if I am not using modern horizon full art snow basic, then I am using original art lands from ABUR.

The year of the dragon mountains are "season 2 qualifier promos" so when MH3 launches you'll be able to compete for your 1. These will be probably some of the most expensive basics ever.
The person who taught me magic's favorite set of all time is odyssey so I only use odyssey lands, but of the full arts in recent sets the kamigawa neon dynasty are easily my favorite and I do use them for my cube I would only consider mismatching if it was part of a theme of the deck Edit: Exact lands below Plains 331 Island 335 Swamp 342 Mountain 346 Forest 347
In my humble opinion the actual best basic cycle of all time is the Seb McKinnon Dominaria United basics. The forest, island, and plains are especially good!
I played at an LGS with a 60 year old guy who self admitted that he had a fetish for the oldest basics that have the first tap symbol on them (that weird T symbol), and pulled out a mono black commander deck with revised edition swamps. Cool guy honestly
I think the Midnight Hunt lands actually look quite good. The Swamp is gorgeous with the light coming through the trees and the reflections on the water, I really like that one. The Plains and the Crimson Vow Plains are nice as well. It is absolutely beyond me how they can prefer the golf course plains to these 😄
Usually my basics are either all the same or entirely different. Nothing in between. I don't mix border types though. I've spend like 300 bucks on just the basics for a single mono colored commander deck before. Priorities!
If you read the original Dracula novel, all of the arts depict scenes from the book VERY well. They don’t look like Plains or Swamps, but the attention to detail regarding the book is amazing.
I’m offended by the cats and dogs ratings, not actually but I have that deck and they make me smile every time, forest for cats mountains for dogs and playing together on the plains ❤️
When I pick basics, I try to match the plane with my commander or a plane where my deck's theme features prominently (like Mirrodin Lands for my equipment deck). Then, I like to have 3 or 4 copies of each printing (whatever fits my land count) since that's usually how I stack my lands in play.
No love for the Phyrexian lands at all? I understand not liking the oil slick as it is too dark; but those Phyrexian full arts in All will be One and MOM are pretty sweet.
Also, in my opinion, the oil slick lands are amazing in person. They are definitely dark, but I love the texture. But I get the sense that there are many areas in which we do not align in terms of our tastes haha.
Mismatching for me is only ever gonna be a thing in mono colored decks. If every basic is the same anyway, I will most definitely get all the sweet artworks in there. Card is mostly black with red tinting and the art is still traditional art lol. Both Kamigawa Ukiyo-e Swamps are great. The darker ones *really* evoke the mood of black mana.
Seb McKinnon's art is always triple S tier. Best there is. Those secret lair swamps are beautiful. I'm glad I bought four of that lair. Damnation may have gotten cheaper, but the art of this one is still amazing
Re: the Heads I Win, Tails You Lose lands, not only was it was it a bonus land (the rest of the lands were regular Battlebond basics), you only got ONE of those two, so not only did WOTC take over a year to get it to buyers, you didn't even get both of the unique full art lands for buying the $100 first secret lair commander deck.

Gotta defend my boy Crim here on the Midnight Hunt/Crimson Vow full art basics. Yeah, they can be hard to distinguish from across the board, although I'll say the colored frame has helped in my experience playing with and against them. Plus, the art looks sick, especially the ones Dan Mumford drew! That old school ADTR album cover art will always bring a smile to my face.
Interesting opinion on the unstable lands, Phil. I wasn't a huge fan of them for a long long time but once I put them into deck lists, fetching for them made me fall in love. So so easy to find and if you have 2 or 3 of them all together then it's even more 🥰🥰🥰 I can only imagine how dope they are in foil 😭
Wow, I love those Standard Showdown basics. Might have to snag a bunch of these for various decks. Also unless I have a theme, I do the Richard method and mix & match my basics.
I love all the different basics and full art basics available. I collect them all, or at least as much as I can afford (cough, judge promos, cough) and I try to get some of the old border foils when I can. There are also a number of nice regular lands for LOTR that look great as well. I also love the panorama lands from Scars of Mirrodin, Worldwake, and (I think) Champions of Kamigawa. There are some other mini-panoramas in Lorwyn and Shadowmoor that I'd love to get, but some of the foils are pretty pricey. But yea, sometimes they fall short with the full arts, and sometimes the regular lands have gems. It kind of sucks that we get like, 2 new full art lands with each new set, but I still love the new art and variety. And sometimes you get some that are really special and have value. I think the whole idea for them is to create a variety of lands that can help people with all sorts of different tastes bling out their decks.
I have a dragon shield box for each of the basic land types. They are a large mismatch of lands from a multitude of sets. Full art, regular, even white border. Whenever I need lands for a deck I just grab however many I need, not paying attention to art or frame or style at all.
Richard and I dont usually share the same views on MTG, but he got my back on those Pixel lands. The only time I've ever bought basic land Secret Lairs was both sets.
What a coincidence. I literally put out a notice to my playgroup that I'm collecting basic mountains from each set very recently and will accept donations or just buy them .
For me #1 is the Unfinity Planets. #2 Theros symbols. #3 Dominaria stained glass symbols. #4 Thunder Junction symbols in landscape. #5 Kamigawa Neon Dynasty Japanese #6 Phyrexian Oil Slick. #7 Dracula Secret Lair #8 Brutal Basic Secret Lair (swamp only) #9 Brother's War Mechs. Edit for Richard: Yes I do missmatch, but in pairs. In multicolor I run the same number of basics for each color, each different art but all paired in their set (ie 3 different color theros, 3 different color dominaria, etc).
Phil, the first Judge full arts don't look great in person - they're still hazy (even unplayed). They just weren't great. The second judge foils seem to have normal foiling from the few ebay listings I could find. Tomer, the cup island is in both Zendikar and BFZ (also part of why I'd rate BFZ's full arts lower). Richard, the Seb secret lair came with 2 swamps actually, one was a sketch version that looks slightly different. The oil slick baiscs have the black parts slightly raised in person, which looks cool, but I agree they're hard to play with. Especially in hand, when you try and fan them, the colors are at the bottom/middle. For the MOM lands, there are better ones you're not showing (the other plains, swamp, and forest are great). The fact that the LOTR map doesn't make a map is a crime. The Jurassic lands are F for me because all the Magic: The Gathering basics are _single_ sided magic cards. I don't know _what_ they printed for this secret lair, but they're _not_ legal magic cards.
I wish you guys talked about the new lands coming out with the symbols disguised in the backround. I think they're going to be new favorites for a lot of people.
I'll defend the oil slick lands. They do lose some charm when you sleeve them up and you can't feel the texture, but they look great on a table. They are the lands of choice for my dedication to the great pringle, my only foil/shiny EDH deck.
I just ordered 6 oil slick plains to start foiling out the basics in my judge promo elesh norn commander deck. Its only got around 20-25 basics though, it also runs emeria, field of the dead, etc. It has means to turn on field relatively easily while keeping a decent number of basic plains. I'm looking forward to it being decked out. The dark background doesn't bother me in the slightest. I have an Ajani that is far harder to read, plus it's a basic land, you don't need to be able to read it to begin with lol.
Im a huge fan of jurassic park and I love the lands. I think the backsides of the lands "dinos escaping" are the best part. Spino iin a swamp with fire anazing. The raptor at night beautiful. Dead valley of apatosaurusus horrific yet cool. My favourite is the foil island on the backside is chefs kiss. The foil makes the light of the submarine really pop as though it was in dark depths. Other than the JP Lands Unfininity just has a unique look you gotta love

Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty and Theros Beyond Death are my favorite full art lands, I would run them in all my paper decks if I had the cards to do so.

Gotta defend my boy Crim here on the Midnight Hunt/Crimson Vow full art basics. Yeah, they can be hard to distinguish from across the board, although I'll say the colored frame has helped in my experience playing with and against them. Plus, the art looks sick, especially the ones Dan Mumford drew! That old school ADTR album cover art will always bring a smile to my face.
Interesting opinion on the unstable lands, Phil. I wasn't a huge fan of them for a long long time but once I put them into deck lists, fetching for them made me fall in love. So so easy to find and if you have 2 or 3 of them all together then it's even more 🥰🥰🥰 I can only imagine how dope they are in foil 😭

Wow, I love those Standard Showdown basics. Might have to snag a bunch of these for various decks.
Also unless I have a theme, I do the Richard method and mix & match my basics.
I love all the different basics and full art basics available. I collect them all, or at least as much as I can afford (cough, judge promos, cough) and I try to get some of the old border foils when I can. There are also a number of nice regular lands for LOTR that look great as well. I also love the panorama lands from Scars of Mirrodin, Worldwake, and (I think) Champions of Kamigawa. There are some other mini-panoramas in Lorwyn and Shadowmoor that I'd love to get, but some of the foils are pretty pricey.
But yea, sometimes they fall short with the full arts, and sometimes the regular lands have gems. It kind of sucks that we get like, 2 new full art lands with each new set, but I still love the new art and variety. And sometimes you get some that are really special and have value. I think the whole idea for them is to create a variety of lands that can help people with all sorts of different tastes bling out their decks.
Omg... you guys have not seen the oil slick lands in person? They are sic!!
I have a dragon shield box for each of the basic land types. They are a large mismatch of lands from a multitude of sets. Full art, regular, even white border. Whenever I need lands for a deck I just grab however many I need, not paying attention to art or frame or style at all.
Richard and I dont usually share the same views on MTG, but he got my back on those Pixel lands. The only time I've ever bought basic land Secret Lairs was both sets.
I have a binder full of basics with arts that I love. I have a handful of the kamigawa mountains that tomer brought up.
New Capenna art deco full arts are S Tier, with Plains #273 and Island #275 being S+ tier.
What a coincidence. I literally put out a notice to my playgroup that I'm collecting basic mountains from each set very recently and will accept donations or just buy them .
Fully agree with Richard on the original Ixalan basics. SERIOUSLY underrated. Same with Ikoria and Throne of Eldraine for me as well.

Edit for Richard: Yes I do missmatch, but in pairs. In multicolor I run the same number of basics for each color, each different art but all paired in their set (ie 3 different color theros, 3 different color dominaria, etc).

Phil, the first Judge full arts don't look great in person - they're still hazy (even unplayed). They just weren't great. The second judge foils seem to have normal foiling from the few ebay listings I could find.
Tomer, the cup island is in both Zendikar and BFZ (also part of why I'd rate BFZ's full arts lower).
Richard, the Seb secret lair came with 2 swamps actually, one was a sketch version that looks slightly different. The oil slick baiscs have the black parts slightly raised in person, which looks cool, but I agree they're hard to play with. Especially in hand, when you try and fan them, the colors are at the bottom/middle.
For the MOM lands, there are better ones you're not showing (the other plains, swamp, and forest are great).
The fact that the LOTR map doesn't make a map is a crime.
The Jurassic lands are F for me because all the Magic: The Gathering basics are _single_ sided magic cards. I don't know _what_ they printed for this secret lair, but they're _not_ legal magic cards.
I wish you guys talked about the new lands coming out with the symbols disguised in the backround. I think they're going to be new favorites for a lot of people.
I'll defend the oil slick lands. They do lose some charm when you sleeve them up and you can't feel the texture, but they look great on a table. They are the lands of choice for my dedication to the great pringle, my only foil/shiny EDH deck.
I just ordered 6 oil slick plains to start foiling out the basics in my judge promo elesh norn commander deck. Its only got around 20-25 basics though, it also runs emeria, field of the dead, etc. It has means to turn on field relatively easily while keeping a decent number of basic plains. I'm looking forward to it being decked out. The dark background doesn't bother me in the slightest. I have an Ajani that is far harder to read, plus it's a basic land, you don't need to be able to read it to begin with lol.

Im a huge fan of jurassic park and I love the lands. I think the backsides of the lands "dinos escaping" are the best part. Spino iin a swamp with fire anazing. The raptor at night beautiful. Dead valley of apatosaurusus horrific yet cool. My favourite is the foil island on the backside is chefs kiss. The foil makes the light of the submarine really pop as though it was in dark depths. Other than the JP Lands Unfininity just has a unique look you gotta love
