    Thanks for the video, good info. Started mine today, there is a 5 foot walk way between the side of the house and the fence, I made the frame out of PVC pipe short of like yours then attached it to the wall and the fence to make it more stable. I have to wait until next payday to buy the plastic. It makes for a good storage area as well. I like using this because I figured I will have about $100.00 in it by the time I'm finished. It is not a permeant structure so I did not have to get a building permit. I just have to take the plastic off once a year take some photos and then put it back up to prove that is it not always there.

    I've used nylon zip ties in place of the pvc connectors. Same pattern but use really long zip ties.

    • @SouthernGypsyFire
      @SouthernGypsyFire 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did it hold up that way? Did you also use acres or just zip ties?

    • @WRMonger1
      @WRMonger1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SouthernGypsyFire
      The zip ties worked well to hold the cross supports in place but what really made the whole thing able to withstand the weather (high winds, heat and rain) was the use of spring clamps. Clamp the plastic sheeting around the pvc pipe and it holds up to whatever comes your way. It also makes it break down easily for storage if you have to do that.

    • @SouthernGypsyFire
      @SouthernGypsyFire 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! That’s very helpful! I live and Florida so the weather is crazy here.

      Any tape is temporary at best and anything that puts holes in the covering weakens the integrity of the plastic (and adds leak paths in both directions). With the spring clamps you can also make future adjustments to the structure as needed. Not to mention that they create easy access doors/panels wherever you require them. It was a learning curve that I’m glad didn’t break the bank.
      Good luck with your greenhouse/arboretum/aviary or whatever you’re constructing.
      One more item... you can add ducting to introduce various elements into the contained atmosphere such as a slightly higher CO2 content for plants or oxygen content for ladybugs or butterflies, if that’s what you’re cultivating.
      One last, last thing... I made a “greenhouse” to use as a paint booth to paint cars. Worked out better than expected. Very versatile structure.

    Thanks for this video for a simple DIY greenhouse \(*-*)/ I watched a few other videos that were more detailed, but also more complex-so if other viewers have questions about attaching doors, windows &/or wood, check those. This is as minimal as it gets and it doesn’t require many tools/supplies. I’ve been seeking a simple and temporary design, so this is perfect. Only question I have, is about the plastic ties you used. I saw in another comment you got it from a gardening supply store but would you happen to know the name of the “ties”? If I can’t find them in my local stores, I’d like to search for them online. Thank you!

  • @russbadessa431

    Great vid...short but informative. Two questions please: 1. Where do you find those neat joiner gadgets (ties) you show at 1:26? & 2. What did you use to attach the rectangular plastic sheeting to the sides & the 1/2-circle-shaped ends (glue, double-sided tape..."C - none of the above" ? ;-) Thank you for putting such a helpful video togther!

      Tehami Khan - Some people use greenhouses in colder climates to protect against winter frost, others like myself need a greenhouse to protect the plants from heavy rainfall & wind. I live in Florida and from June-September we get heavy rainfall frequently. Some of my plants are getting beat up so I’m looking into building this, especially for seed-starting + baby plants.
