My mother loved classical music. When I was in my early teens and playing the "Paranoid" album - War Pigs in particular, she came over and told me that she liked his voice. She said when he sings, he sounds like he's crying - she could hear the emotion. I think there's some truth to that - he has a very unique mournful quality to his voice.
I agree with you Ralph. Man i hope one day they release some concert footage of Blizzard of Ozz live with Ozzy, Bob, Randy and Lee. 🤘 that would be freaking incredible! Also Love UFO The wild, the Willing and the Innocent Rules
Ozzy is a great and unique singer. Perfect melodies. Iconic timbre. He's not an American Idol singer and none of the greatest vocalists in rock have ever had that bland cookie cutter style. It's about character. Ozzy is the X factor in his success. It doesn’t matter who is in his band, he always sells records.
You either get Ozzy or you don't. He's the lunatic who escaped the asylum, and found himself somehow in front of a microphone in a rock band. That's all you need to know. Don't try and overthink it. He can sing music box inspired melodies over thunderous guitar riffs, and weave a kind of magic and madness that blend effortlessly together in song. Can he sing YES!
Just cause Ozzy doesn't sound like Freddie, doesn't mean he wasn't a good singer! I saw him with Sabbath on 3 tours, saw him with Randy on the Diary tour, and lastly with Jake at the US Festival! He kicked ass every time! The only thing wrong with Ozzy is Sharon! This guy should zip it.
What he's saying is true, but misses the larger point. On the one hand, Ozzy had a ton of musicians that were the true creative juices of the band. Ozzy doesn't write. BUT, Ozzy as a front man is up there with Plant, DLR, etc. Maybe not now, but back in the day Ozzy had the most unique voice in heavy metal. You know it's him the first line of the song. He entertained like Alice Cooper or KISS in showmanship with the his outfits, his stage antics, and the way he interacted with the audience. I don't agree with the way Ozzy treated so many of his bandmates, but his talent can't be denied. Just because he didn't write, doesn't mean he wasn't important. Jack Nicholson didn't write his parts, but his acting can't be denied.
Really? Why didn't you support their other work then? They do ish without Ozzy. Not even Iommi who is top 5. He sold 100 million albums based on his guitarists? Malmsteen would be bigger then the Beatles if guitar work is all that mattered in music.
Is he Dio... No. Is Dio Ozzy? No Did Ozzy get alot of help? Yup Everyone gets alot of help. Is Ozzy a Shitbag? Maybe. Is Sharon the Devil... Absolutely. I bet that's his problem.
I am kind of surprised at the idea Ozzy cant sing....I have always loved his voice within the genre. while I am sure he has used some studio trickery to boost his voice, theres only so much they can do to mask someone who truly cant sing. say you dont like his voice as in the timbre and tone, but he sings great whether it be metal or ballads.
He is totally correct! Look, I LOVE Ozzy, but lets face it, he cant sing, he really cant. His voice made Sabbath sound even more ominous. If you listen to first album as great as it is, he is FLAT on alot of the tracks. Geezer wrote all the great Sabbath stuff, Daisley wrote all the Blizzard stuff. I have always maintained that Ozzy was the luckiest motherfucker in rock history. I am not saying he doesnt have talent, he just as the man said was surrounded by very talented people.
He absolutely can and no vocal coach would ever agree with that statement. Having a unique timbre doesn't make you a bad singer. His technique even improved as he progressed through his career. You can judge him based on the first album of his career bud. Also there was no vocal processing and they made the album in a day. His vocal melodies alone made many of the songs iconic. Bad singers don't come up with great vocal melodies. No one can listen to sabatoge and call that bad singing. If he is lucky then obviously the people he's worked with would be successful without him. None of them have come close. Micheal Jackson surrounded himself with great musicians and producers but you would never use that as a slight on his career. You're just repeating what others have said.
@@mr.brenman2132 I agree with much of what you. Ozzy had a unique voice and wrote great melodic vocal lines. He had good vocal range but lacked technique and control. I think when people are arguing whether Ozzy was good or not, they’re confusing the two separate aspects of singing… Technical and emotional/ creative. Ozzy was poor technical singer but he was a great emotional/ creative singer, which is more important. I love Ozzy voice and melodic vocal melodies.
Ozzy has the most unique singing voice ever in my opinion. No one sounds like Ozzy or even close to him. Musicians like Don Airey, Jake E Lee, Tony Iommi and even Bob Daisley have all said that Ozzy wrote all the melidies and that it came easily to him. That is definitely a talent.
Yeah sabbath bloody sabbath. Sonofabitch is he singing his ASS off on that song. fucking slayed me the first time i heard it on 8 track and it still does to this day.
When people make greatest metal singers lists, you don’t usually see Ozzy on them. Don’t get me wrong I love Ozzy. In high school I sang for a band, I had no problem being able to sing old Sabbath and Ozzy songs, but it was difficult to sing Priest and Maiden.
I used to kinda feel this way too but over the years i have grown to respect ozzys talent. Of course he has had killer axemen from top to bottom holy shit they're all so badass. But you can say he can't sing, until you try to sing his material. It's hard as shit! And oh man did you guys see them at the rnr hall of fame singing his songs? Omg it was bad. Gave me even more respect for what he has done in his career. I admit I don't really know shit about singing. Im a guitar player. But don't make the same mistake i did and underestimate the prince of darkness.
Umm, if I'm not mistaken, every great vocalist has great musicians around them. All of them Plant- Page, DLR- EVH, I could on and on here. Ozzy has the most unique sounding voice in all of Rock/ Metal. Even if it's a song I've never heard, I only need to hear one or two lyrics and I know it's Ozzy. He's also a danm fine song writing as well. Show me one great singer who doesn't have a great band behind him/her.
Ozzy has a uniquely eerie bluesy soulful golden voice, the young Ozzy 100% nailed his vocals accurately live in Paris in 1970. Kevin Dubrow of Quiet Riot never broke through with Randy Rhoads, yet those 3 rare Quiet Riot reunion show bootlegs from 5-29-80 and 5-30-80 when a leveled up Randy Rhoads came home on break, after the Blizzard of Ozz album was recorded, lit the spark that eventually pushed Kevin over the top…Randy Rhoads fans should check out th-cam.com/video/XVhcuO13tAU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=YuYquqar4lzO6hTp🎸🤟🏼
And yet always the most successful. Talent is subjective. Skill isn't. Joe Holmes Should have sold more albums then Ozzy if he was more talented. Ozzy wouldn't be able to replicate success over and over again with different musicians if he wasn't the X factor in his success.
So many great rock vocalist couldn't hold a proper note like a real singer to save their lives. Ozzy and DLR I would put somewhere toward the top of that non-singer vocal stylist heap. Ronnie Dio was a real singer. See the difference? A singer vs. A vocal stylist. Who's the clown hittin' all the proper notes? That ain't rock-n-roll man! Oh, it's just Graham Bonnet. Meh...Gimmie Ozzy and the like anyday.
I kind of agree. Ozzy isn't even my favorite Black Sabbath singer. In my humble opinion, Gillan improved on Iron Man and Supernaut when Ian sang those songs. Sabbath got popular because of Iommi's brilliant compositions and songwriting. And I'm not saying all vocalists need to have insane vocal range. But they need to have a unique sound when they sing. Ozzy was blessed to have always been surrounded by great musicians.
Ozzy may not be as good of a singer as Dio or Serj Tankian but, his voice is still amazing & he's one of my all-time favorite singers. Maybe if UFO had Ozzy as their singer, they'd be more than just a footnote in heavy metal history.
The most false thing ever said. Something you would never apply to any other musician or singer. No vocal coach would ever call him a bad singer. His melodies are genius and made the legendary songs he's been apart of even more iconic. If he had nothing to do with his success then the musicians he has worked with would have had equal or more success without him. None of them have. None of them have Cone close. Not even Tony Iommi.
Somebody sounds butthurt that somebody basically just told you the truth about Ozzy. He doesn't have a great voice, his stage presence is goofy. He is talented, but not talented enough to do anything without all the talent that he had around him his whole career. So don't cry, it's okay, you'll get over it, and tomorrow is a new day lol
That's completely false. Ozzy is a great singer. Excellent and unique timbre. His technique improved over time. His vocal melodies are genius and enhance every song they are apart of. His stage movements might have been quirky in his dotage but in his prime he was one of the best. He's a star because he has the it factor. Sharon knew that from the beginning. There have been a lot of great musicians that have written a lot of great songs. Why weren't they as popular as Ozzy? Ozzy didn't make top 40 music either. No one he has every worked with has ever been as successful without him. Everything he's ever done has been successful regardless of the musicians. It's plug and play. You could literally apply your logic to Michael Jackson but you never would. It's a ridiculous statement.
I love Ozzy. But he's not a great singer. Neither is Bob Dylan, Neil Young Kris Kristofferson and Vince MEAL 🤪. But all are popular and successful!! All these guys have talent. And I don't like Dylan or Young !!
You're right. He's an excellent singer with unique timbre and great vocal melodies. Imagine comparing Ozzy to Bob Dylan 🤦♂️. Neil Young is also a great singer. I guess you think the only great singers are on American idol.

While i agree Ozzy isn't technically a good singer. I'd say that the sound of his voice is unique and recognizable.
OZZY is a Bad Man he's a very Bad Man...
Pretty much, I never thought he was that great. Jake E Lee on the other hand, now that’s a fuckin talent!!!
UFO didn't need a saxophone. Thankfully he didn't bring it out when I saw UFO on their Last Orders tour in late 1999 and early 2000 right before COVID
