    This is great Jon . Oddly enough when wearing my other hat , I did an out of the box and assembly guide for this very unit this week . I will share your findings with the factory to address the short power lead and axle issues and see what we can do about protecting the manual .
    These units do have two straps on the outside when they leave us but they tend to get torn off by conveyors at transport depots.
    I agree that the word silent may be strong but I was equally impressed with the "quietness" when I heard one run for the first time. Thanks for taking the time to share your findings . Cheers Ade.

      You'll love it when you do it Matty. Only thing I haven't got around to doing is hard piping from well house though shop wall and having the water separators in a controlled environment. I do drain tank after every use, but real pain in the butt to route a 50ft air hose into the shop 😞. Jon's new one is really nice and quite.

    Great review John, I’m sure it will be of great value to anyone looking to buy a small home shop compressor. I was fortunate enough to buy a well loved second hand Bambi 150/700 a number of years back and it’s been great, as I don’t have any room to put a compressor outside I needed a silent one.
    I paid about the same price as the model you reviewed is advertised at online, I know Bambi have always been expensive but as we used them in a factory environment and never had any issues or breakdowns it seemed the obvious choice for me, the alternatives were unknown to me but with open and honest reviews like this it may have made a difference. It’s interesting how you found the lead an annoyance I had to smile as I nearly always have to shorten leads on items I consider fixed as they are usually far too long for my liking.

In truth though, the footprint of mine was a bigger issue than the noise. So under a bench it went. I turn it on when I need it. I do have airtools but I use them infrequently so it's no big deal.

      Hi, not posted an update but not really had a lot of use being honest. Good bits are it still works as well and as quiet as when I unboxed it. Bad bits, it doesn't look man enough to run coolant mister without the compressor running constantly which is no use when you are filming, and will also kill it fairly quickly I think. I need to adapt the coolant mist idea to work with much lower pressure and be gravity fed with the liquid......an upcoming project. Cheers, Jon

    Hello Jon,
    It seems that you are happy with your new toy so that is one good point. That short power lead is bad. Also perhaps a 90 degree bend before the hose connector, instead of the straight one, would be a useful alternative. Also they could have added a length of plastic pipe, so the drain from the water trap dripped on the ground rather than the machine.
    One non-compressor suggestion - unwind your extension cable if drawing a heavy current or it may overheat and melt.

    • @jonsworkshop
      @jonsworkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Richard, thanks for the comment and suggestions, all of which are very good. Once I know where I am going to site the unit, I may play around with the output pipework to make onwards pipework routing easier. On the extension lead, spot on, I see lots of people not doing this. Mine was over 50% unwound for this test (I was tripping up over it all behind the camera lol). This gave me 1.5 kW rating which was well over the two compressors combined current draw. Cheers, Jon

    I would have liked to have a typical diagram detailing where everything is. If you are a beginner you don't quite know what everything is. They said for you to empty the maintank of water at the end of the day but without the diagram you don't know where to go to do it. Also they need to detail how to let the air out of the tank before you drain the tank of moisture. I have the 27550 and that is huge. I was struggling a bit to put the wheels and feet on without scratching the living room floor. The box was quite big and well packed. I wish the power lead was at the other end as I don't want the cabling to rest against the hot cylinders so I have to route the power cable away from the cylinders. I got mine to do airbrushing but to occasionally blow stuff out of machined work, spray large RC models and to pump up my tyres. I do think that you'll appreciate the larger tank and the quieter operation when it is actually topping up the tank. Mine is quiet too.

  • @matspatpc

    Seems like a fair review (before thousands of "miles" of use). I wish my compressor was quieter, but it's a bit larger and regular piston version. It cost less, definitely made in China. But has been working flawlessly for what I need, about 4 years no.
    One thing I did was to fit a timer to it, so I press a button and get about 3 hours of runtime. They are sold for heating and ventilation fans. That way I don't have to remember to turn it off - when I forget, the compressor starts at some crazy hour in the morning (subject to what is plugged in - some things don't leak, others do... :) )

    Do keep the compressed air away from your fingers mate, it's all too easy to impinge even at low pressure. It hurts like hell (like a hammer blow) for hours and a serious one can see you off. I heard of a bloke that lost a finger because a pneumatic grease gun filled his finger up with grease whilst he was trying to lube an undercarriage. Nasty.

    Looks good for the money Jon. Shame that both outlets are regulated. Would be nice as lots of more expensive one have is to have 1 outlet regulated and the other Full Tank pressure. Saves yo having to keep cranking the regulator up and down for different things. You will find that you only need about 10 PSI for the Coolant mister units. Bummer is if you then want to blow odd the part or tapped holes you will need to crank it up again. Option is a separate regulator for the Mister and leave the blow off about 70 ish. If you are competent with electrics, pop off the starter cover and add a new cable. Bung the compressor out in the outhouse if you want Total Silence😊 and more space in the workshop. With regards to the auto drain on the filter, dribbling down the tank, go and pinch one of Dawn's cleaning sponges and put it on with a bit of silicon or double sided tape, directly under the outlet. Good luck. Regards from Australia.

    Appears to be a good unit Jon. 5 CFM is a handy size and quite enough for spraying with a low pressure gun. I have a single diaphram oil less Binks Bullows compressor and it's noisier than this one, so I think yours is pretty quiet. It should go for many years as there's not much to wear out in these units. Being oil less also prevents contamination.
    The only recommendations I would make are to turn up some longer axle spacers, and also mount an external/independent water trap at least 2 metres away from the supplied regulator. Having it mounted directly at the tank won't do anything as the warm compressed air is above dew point and can't condense any moisture out. Why they insist on mounting them at the tank appears to be a marketing thing as it's entirely useless. Even better is to run the air though some metal pipe to lower the temperature and condense it out. I have a video on this system. You definitely need dry air for tools and spraying.
    One of the main air uses in my shop is blowing crud out of collets and chucks. Gotta keep precision stuff clean.
    Good video.

      @@chris01479 I have sprayed a car roof with my larger 7.5 cfm compressor OK. Bigger is always better with paint spraying, in relation to gun size and air flow. However, low pressure guns (30 psi) work fine provided the compressor can maintain a constant pressure. All my diaphram compressor spraying has been limited to motor cycle tanks and guards, which is all short burst stuff . Being a tankless diaphram unit the compressor is a type that only delivers low pressure, but at a reasonably high volume. Spray guns all perform much the same within their intended pressure range, so brand is not a huge factor. Cheers Rob

    Certainly an improvement on non acoustic piston compressor, my piston one has a 1450 rpm ( 4 pole) motor, this reduces the noise compared to a 2850 rpm (2 pole).
    Sub 1 metre cable is very short, at least 1.5 m, as you say, though most portable and non portable equipment are restricted in cable length.
    Honest review Jon, bit noisy to start your dental practice though 🥺🤔🤪.
    Thanks for sharing.
    Regards John.

    nice one Jon, I bought the smaller 8-litre one as I only need it for tyre inflation and blowing rubbish off machinery. I also only have space for the footprint of the small one. I bought it in February this year so it's not had much use as you know in March I started my many trips to the hospital put the mockers on playing with the motorbike and visits to the man cave. 🤣

    Came accross you channel as thinking about this compressor. I currently have a Wolf 24ltr which is bloody noisy. My only concern is the Wolf is 9.5cfm and the Hyundai only 5, is this a problem

      Hi Petrol head, thanks for the comment. Difficult question to answer unfortunately, it all depends what you want to use it for. As I said, it will be fine for the odd tyre, blowing down, micro spraying etc, not really up to high volume air tools though. Cheers, Jon

    Hi Jon , I have a piston compressor, it’s about 5 times as big as that one and very noisy , only saving grace is it’s in a second workshop so don’t hear it to much, I have run 8mm plastic around my workshop with 3 air gun outlets and mist spray on mill and lathe, all purchased from Amazon probably cost me £100 all in, cheers 👍👴🏻

    Just bought this off the back of your video, does yours slightly leak down when it’s reached pressure? Also when it gets up towards full pressure it chugs a bit almost like it’s struggling. Any ideas?

    Hi Jon, I have got a questions. Do you recommend if I should use 24L or 50L hyundai air compressor to respray on car body parts using LVHP spray gun?
    Does it work well for you if you have used 24L to respray on your car? I'd love to know!

    • @jonsworkshop
      @jonsworkshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Chris, I have no idea if it will stand up to LVHP as all I use mine for is blowing down components etc (short sharp bursts). I would definitely recommend the 50l version though if you are going to try it, as the 24l tank is pretty small. Cheers, Jon

    Hi Jon, well, if you have to have one that looks about right to me. Having said that the only thing I have ever used my old set-up for is inflating my car's tyres. A friend gave me an old compressor head to which I added a motor and tank(?), plus sundries. Cost zero, near enough; use zero, near enough. 🤣

    Hi Jon.
    I got a new compressor just last week, it's a twin piston and very noisy. I looked at the Hyundai compressors but I could only see them upto 50 litre tanks and I wanted 100 litre. I too want to use mist coolant on the mill and lathe, I will be interested to see if you make the mist unit or just buy a Chinese one. I think you should make one from scratch, then I can copy it.😉
    All the best
    Gary.

    • @jonsworkshop
      @jonsworkshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, if only 7 months old, you should be covered by warranty, 1st action is to contact Hyundai in your area, explaining the fault and ask them to repair or replace. If this is not possible, search for the faulty item, order a new one and replace. Sorry I can't help you much, its quite difficult to diagnose the issue without seeing or hearing the unit. Cheers, Jon

    bought a simulair compressor but bigger (100L and from the aflatec brand )
    there all the same manufacturer it seems , so i would just go for the cheapest available with the cfm and size you need
    only thing i dont like is that it doesnt make 10 but 8 atm so it misses some oompf when using with airtools and a sandblaster (seems all hobby compressors have that problem ) other than that im pretty happy with it ,
    i have a workshop in the bedroom of an apartment and when the door is closed you cannot hear it running in another room
    and to keep youre hart rate at a reasonable level there perfect , no concentrating on fitting a small item and having it fly off the moment the compressor kicks on and sounding like the china cabinet is falling off the wall...... been there done that
    if youre looking for one cheaper (at least in the netherllands / european union) look intoo the vevor brand online , youre size was listed at 143,99 euro on there
