I just loved watching this voyage Lana! I lived in Ontario my entire life before moving to Québec and I have never heard of this magnificent train trip. Your tips are excellent - having to book 3-4 months in advance?! You were so fortunate to have had such beautiful weather, especially having to book so far ahead of time. The history was so interesting, the colours, the views were spectacular and the lake was so peaceful and calm. 10 hours is a long time, but it looks like it was worth it! You’ll love Québec if you could handle 350 steps - in Old Québec alone, there are 40 staircases that cover over 2,800 steps! lol I’m looking forward to watching more of your videos now. Thank you for sharing this wonderful experience!
Hello Catherine! I am so glad to see that you have started your channel as well! @theQuebecCityDiaries will be a perfect guide for people travelling to this city! I feel that this trip was just a little warmup before walking all the steps of Old Quebec 😅 Thank you for watching the video and such a nice comment! And you have a new subscriber to your channel 🤗
@@Shusts_in_Canada Aww, thanks Lana. I really don't post many videos yet on my channel because I'm too shy to be on camera like you do so well. But I really appreciate the support and you subscribing! That's very kind. 😍
I went many years ago and loved the journey. I am glad that it is still running. I took the train up to Hearst and back to SSM, but sadly, passenger service has been discontinued, so you cannot make that trip anymore. Very nicely done video. Brought back old memories.
Hello Gregory! Thanks for sharing your experience, I wonder how much time did such trip take? Yeah, it is sad that they closed that route, a lot of people lost the connection to their cabins and cottages
@@Shusts_in_Canada It took all day probably about 12 hours one way. I stayed overnight at the hotel across from the Hearst station and had dinner there. I went in August 2014. Passengers got on and off along the way at lodges and campsites and at one point loaded a canoe in the baggage car. The train was run by CN but they bowed out of the passenger business at the end of 2014. They tried to restart it in 2015 but it was not successful. There are still hopes it will be restarted.
That’s so interesting! Last year we had a chance to talk to a railway technician at Franz (now it is a ghost station) and he did say that there was still some hope in bringing back the service again. I hope that would happen. Thanks again for sharing your memories 🫶
