I read these comments before watching, and have been keeping an eye out. I'm 99% sure it is Wendy's mic. Mic on the left left side of shirt and her torso is angled toward the camera. The noise happens most when she's turned her head to the left, but sometimes happens when she's looking at Mike, too, as her torso is angled still. When her head is in a more neutral position relative to her torso, it never happens. Tbh, this issue doesn't personally bother me much because I'm usually only listening with laptop speakers, but I can see how it would be annoying people listening with headphones or a good audio system.
A Dominion app would solve my main complaint with Dominion. The constant counting of "I have 3 actions and 5 buys... Now I have 3 actions and 4 buys..." maybe that is due to limited experience and mainly playing the base game but that slowed the game down a ton for me a got annoying.
I think that the mic problem is a 5th mic that is being rubbed because I am looking at the panel and they aren’t doing anything to their mic that would make that noise, it’s something behind the camera
Do you guys know Richard Bartle's taxonomy of Player Types? Tool where he put players of MMOs like World of Warcraft into four different types (Explorers, Killers, Socialisers and Achievers). From the discussion here, I feel like Tom and Mike are different types, Tom being more of an "Explorer" type whereas Mike may be an "Achiever" type- not just because Tom likes exploration in games, but he's talked about co-op games being too hard and he just wants to experience all the content. So he'll play a game on "easy" in order to see that content, whereas for an achiever playing on easy would be cheating.
@@readilium3432 Yeah Richard has done lots of talks online for game conferences so you can find him pretty easy. He co-created the first MUD back in the late 70s (Multi-User Dungeon). Some other people have built off of his work to classify players into other groupings as well.

As an audio engineer I'm a little confused why the person behind the camera can't just listen to the mic's one at a time, without turning them off. Without knowing exactly how you're set up, but from looking at the equipment I see, I suspect there are simple changes you could make to your rig, that would make it much easier to identify sound issues like the ones in this episode. If it wasn't for the face that I live in Sweden, I would have offered to come by and help you out, but as it is it might be easier for you to find someone closer 🙂
Live Shows segment suggestion: Poll the audience. The war between Dominion and DC Deck builder made me think of it. Love all you guys since the first top 100. (I miss the high pitched tone intro sound)
Good point - I also saw this mistake but you were the first to comment on it 👍😊. In the end summary list between 70 and 61 there was also some inaccuracies - I believe between place 69 and 79 in Mike's list.
@@thedicetower when you did the check midstream, Wendy was facing straight ahead. the issue was being caused when she turned her head toward Tom & Zee, thereby directly breathing onto her microphone. The rule-of-thumb should be that lapel mics should always be placed on the side opposite where the wearer is facing. So in Wendy's case, since she was going to be turning her head to the left a lot, her mic should have been on her right side.
Wendy, I found out about Five Tribes from Tabletop as well! As a matter of fact I found out about a lot of games from that show. But not as many as from The Dice Tower, and that’s a fact!
Aren't there more than three games in Haba's family line? Adventureland, Karuba you mentioned, but there is a few more like Honga and Mountains? Or are those in some other line?
I guess we're just not meant for Rosenberg's games with an huge variety of resources and buildings, but Caverna's gigantic building option board was just too much.
It's weird that there isn't an app version of Dominion. I had never played it before but they released a digital version recently on steam and I've played more of it than any other game last year I think, rofl. There are a lot of deck builders out there, but seeing the kingdom cards you got in a game and trying to figure out which strategy or cards you want to focus on is so satisfying
Surprising to see Arkham LCG dropped for Zee…..I think this new Edge of the Earth campaign would really bump it back up! Easily one of the best. Hopefully he finds some time for it.
Tom: "The two main complaints leveled against [Dominion]...'oh look! All these new things deckbuilding games can do!' and that's great - that doesn't make this one bad suddenly." Also Tom: Caverna is better than Agricola and Agricola therefore should no longer even be on the Top 100.
Don't see it in the recent comments, but the People's Choice List at the end is wrong: Where it has 27 - Arkham Horror LCG, it should be Gloomhaven: JOTL, and G: JOTL at 28 should be Space Base. I was entering everything in my spreadsheet for s&g so heads-up to anyone else using the end lists.
59:00 What Mike said about Dominion is absolutely the case for me. I've already played games with deck building and so I wasn't really impressed with Dominion when I played it. Hell, I was kind of unimpressed. Having to buy a card that is JUST points to put into your deck that does nothing until the end when you score is pretty boring. I don't generally like deck builders anyway, but Dominion didn't really do anything for me. I'd rather play Star Realms or Mystic Vale over Dominion.
57:30 Tom screams for a Dominion app when there is one (and a PC version)! He must not know yet, but yeah, it took way too long to have a standard app version of this game. (The expansions on the app are pricey though!)
Everdell I REALLY wanted to like... and I DID like the tight worker placement, but the card goals and other goals just seemed like search the deck for a certain card and the luckiest player doing that had a HUGE point advantage. Maybe some of the expansions would fix it but I didn't want to invest in them without knowing.
The best traditional combat deck-builder: Shards of Infinity. Also @RoyCanaday calling back to a few lists ago, Spectre Ops Broken Covenant fixed that misprint a while ago. Unless you just don’t like the red board, I’d suggest people just buy it instead since you get more stuff. Same with Dead of Winter - Long Night has much better components + modules, just different characters.
I bought Broken Covenant a few months ago. It did not have the fixes. If you buy the game, assume it needs the stickers (pub got them to me withing a week)

I actively avoid Dominion since my first play, it has so much text and as a first time player you have such a disadvantage compared to regular players. For a few years I thought deck building wasn't for me, just because of Dominion. After enjoying Century Spice Road, El Dorado and Great Western Trail I realize it was just Dominion that stresses me out.
That’s a fair criticism. It really is a much better experience if someone who is familiar with the game explains the gist of each card before the game starts, but new players wouldn’t always have an experienced player available to explain the rules. The other option is for your first few games, just playing with cards that have simple text. You could easily set it up with only cards that have the vanilla +1 Card, +1 Action, etc. bonuses. But yes, I can understand it being a frustrating experience if you get one of those cards like Pirate Ship with a wall of text and you’re stuck wondering what the cards even do.
Ok, the bashing of Hansa Teutonica has come up a few times now...why? It's a perfectly pleasant board with wonderful detail, why the hate? Just because it doesn't have super heroes and fully saturated colors? Also curious as to what was 'broken' in Lancashire? I've only ever played that version of Brass and have never felt there was a problem with it. Curious as to what was so wrong that has led Birmingham to be considered the better version by so many.
It’s just an opinion. I am sure there are games they like that you don’t like (maybe over saturated games with super heroes?) that they do. Games by and large are opinion based and if they don’t like it and it works for you great. There are plenty of games they don’t like that I do, and it doesn’t bother me because there are plenty options to go around.
"Troops on a map"? But "Mates on a map" was right there! All fruit are vegetables (edible part of a plant) and a fruit is the reproductive part of the fruit, but not all vegetables are fruit.
I agree with Tom in 25... not about Dominion though XD... but about the fact that some "classic" games tend to become even better once the other "new reimaginings" past the hype... IMHO Dixit is better than Mysterium and Obscurio and it was the 1st one of that kind. I also like the 1st Azul to be honest, I feel even though more "basic" they also feel cleaner to a certain extent and I tend to enjoy their simplicity :) ... I am happy to see Five Tribes again (my #1) and I know it's going to be higher on Zee's list :P
The people's choice selections better reflect the games played by people who don't have a business account solely for purchasing games and who do not get free copies of games to review. The people's choice list should be called the realistic budget list.
Awesome lists! Not sure if the mic problem has been solved but it really sounds like there’s a mic on off screen that someone is close to. One of the previous videos I could here someone tapping their fingers and no one on screen was tapping.
Lol Birmingham didn't remove any mechanisms from Lancashire. If anything it removed one edge case, and added three in its place! It is more replayable in terms of variety though which is why it is more popular.
It removed the virtual connection link, variable loan amounts, and cut-off for taking loans. True there's some new mechanisms and edge cases added, I've always seen them understood easier than the virtual link connection.
@@thedicetower the new version of Lancashire doesn't have the virtual link either :p variable loan amounts are no big deal. But fair enough Wendy. You make good points.
Mezo is such a great game and the ability to change tactics on a given turn is awesome. Definitely worth picking up! 7th Continent may be the single most disappointing game I have ever played. The lengths I went to in order to get a copy, only to play it and not enjoy it. I really just did not internalize how much of a survival game this was when I saw it. definitely a case where a demo or watching the game be played would have saved me some money.

I was introduced to deckbuilding through Dominion and everything Mike said applies to me :) . I have moved to DC purely because I am a HUGE fan of DC comics and have the big multiverse box.
the new anniversary edition of Carcassonne is amazing and I got a few promos and smaller expansions and added it to the box. not going full on big box with this but a little variety is cool. DEF don't need to own everything for this game [same way I feel about Dominion]
You need like someone wearing a complete black suit to sneak in and adjust microphones when there is a mic problem. Or you zoom in on someone's face or on Tom's hat and secretly adjust it. ^_^
Don't be. I don't play very heavy games but the Steam version of Root has a fantastic tutorial. You learn the Cats first because they're the most straightforward and then go from there. If I can do it, you definitely can.
“Give me an app!” Want to make a ton of money within a year? Begin to train to be a developer. In response to Tom, you may not realize how short we are as a people on developers.
I'm glad to finally see some love for Unsettled. I freaking love that game
pretty sure the mic noise is comign from someone not on the video
I was thinking the same thing. It almost felt like there was another mic on somewhere or some other ambient sound being picked up.
@@seymour_krelborn or it's something on their feet, could be when they're moving their feet around
Second list in a row that I've crossed over with Mike and The People!
#30 - Cartographers
#29 - Paleo
#28 - Aeon's End: Legacy
#27 - Spirit Island
#26 - Space Base
#25 - Brass: Birmingham
#24 - Stuffed Fables
#23 - Everdell
#22 - Above and Below
#21 - Horrified
As an audio engineer I'm a little confused why the person behind the camera can't just listen to the mic's one at a time, without turning them off. Without knowing exactly how you're set up, but from looking at the equipment I see, I suspect there are simple changes you could make to your rig, that would make it much easier to identify sound issues like the ones in this episode. If it wasn't for the face that I live in Sweden, I would have offered to come by and help you out, but as it is it might be easier for you to find someone closer 🙂
I agree Sleeping Gods is his masterpiece.
Not sure someone addressed it, but there is an app for Tom’s #25. Implementation is great.
#Mikefanclub Honestly Tom's "hate" towards Mike is the catalyst for some of Mike's best jokes! Keep it coming!
Live Shows segment suggestion: Poll the audience. The war between Dominion and DC Deck builder made me think of it. Love all you guys since the first top 100. (I miss the high pitched tone intro sound)
In the end summary, People's Choice 28 is Space Base, and 27 is Gloomhaven JOTL
Good point - I also saw this mistake but you were the first to comment on it 👍😊.
In the end summary list between 70 and 61 there was also some inaccuracies - I believe between place 69 and 79 in Mike's list.
I had been thinking of ordering the retail edition of Radlands, but after seeing Zee's #27, I ordered the Super Deluxe version.
Good call, the playmats for this are excellent and helpful when playing.
I think the sound issue is placement and they are rubbing / breathing.
New mics are not needed.
I promise you that is NOT it. We checked.
@@balbright 100% correct.
Zee probably compared Death May Die to Arkham Horror LCG and decided one is more easier to get to the table.
Zee + Root = make it happen! we will be there!
...and so we interrupt today's top 100 list for *Top 10 Cave Games*
It's nice to see Masmorra getting some love. I totally agree with Mike on that one.
Yes Mike with the Petrichor love! I really like it but can never persuade people to try it.
I had a very brief phase of liking Dominion but found the online presence a little too serious for my liking
It looks like there is a fifth person somewhere messing with their mike all the time :)
Hey Tom, I’m curious as to why Dominion over Shards of Infinity?
Surprising to see Arkham LCG dropped for Zee…..I think this new Edge of the Earth campaign would really bump it back up! Easily one of the best. Hopefully he finds some time for it.
Tom: "The two main complaints leveled against [Dominion]...'oh look! All these new things deckbuilding games can do!' and that's great - that doesn't make this one bad suddenly."
Also Tom: Caverna is better than Agricola and Agricola therefore should no longer even be on the Top 100.
*Listens to Tom’s Dominion app rant while using the iOS app* 😁
It’s been in beta for months, it’ll be out soon
57:30 Tom screams for a Dominion app when there is one (and a PC version)! He must not know yet, but yeah, it took way too long to have a standard app version of this game.
(The expansions on the app are pricey though!)
Where? I just checked the App Store and I do not see dominion available?
So has Sleeping Gods been on everyone's list this far?
People 86, Tom 82, Mike 29, Zee 24
Hey I like this people's choice girl! Please come more often!
Is the retail version of Marvel United worth it? Or is the game need many or all of the kickstarter-exclusives to be worth it?
Tom starting off strong with the negging
Everdell I REALLY wanted to like... and I DID like the tight worker placement, but the card goals and other goals just seemed like search the deck for a certain card and the luckiest player doing that had a HUGE point advantage. Maybe some of the expansions would fix it but I didn't want to invest in them without knowing.
I got Adventureland from a friend. Really enjoy it. Wish i could get the expansion for it.
They just do the "mics make noise" so people will go and support the Dice Tower kickstarter!
Love the hat countdown
The best traditional combat deck-builder: Shards of Infinity.
Also @RoyCanaday calling back to a few lists ago, Spectre Ops Broken Covenant fixed that misprint a while ago. Unless you just don’t like the red board, I’d suggest people just buy it instead since you get more stuff. Same with Dead of Winter - Long Night has much better components + modules, just different characters.
I bought Broken Covenant a few months ago. It did not have the fixes. If you buy the game, assume it needs the stickers (pub got them to me withing a week)
@@simonadams yikes that stinks! Maybe it’s a matter of checking how old an edition is?
The mic issues I think is from something breathing out of their nose directly down.
looking forward to the top 20
My top 30-21:
30 Sheriff of Nottingham
29 Star Wars: Rebellion
28 Super Mario: Level Up! Board Game
27 RoboRally
26 Ingenious
25 Dream Home
24 Sub Terra
23 Acquire
22 Mice and Mystics
21 The Republic of Rome
Time's Up (Title Recall) is my #91 (Tom's #29).
Deception: Murder in Hong Kong is my #80 (Mike's #27)
King of Tokyo is my #54 (Zee's #30)
Sub Terra is my #24 (crossover with Zee's #29)
Orléans is my #64 (People's Choice #25)
Any others mentioned may be higher on my list...
Thunderbirds is great...sometimes.
Others you just get bad luck with hood rolls and the game crashes to a halt with nothing you can do about it, which is hugely unfortunate :/.
zee is not realizing that DRAFTING cards Plus the polyomino game makes for a really amazing game. Lots of tension too as people snatch up the color or shape of cat tile you NEED lol. This is by far the best polyomino game made, and it's a great drafting game as well.
Tom played the Root app tutorial live and we watched so... I think we can handle Zee doing it. Only difference would be that Tom played Root irl prior to the app.
#30.Road to the Whitehouse
#29.Rail Baron- old Avalon Hill game ❤
#28.Command & Colors "Ancients"
#27.Acquire- old Avalon Hill game 😁
#26.Shogun- old MB game 💯 better than "Axis & Allies"
#25.Smash up
#24.Bunny Kingdom
#23.Roll Player
#22.Splender this game will always have a place at my table.
#21.Formula- D
That's my 30-21 games
That's very fair, true of almost any card game.
@@Therisktaker3 Yes. But what about Lancashire/Birmingham?
@@Therisktaker3 I also realized I edited out the line that made it clear this was mostly tongue in cheek.
What's up with Zee at the end of #27? LOL!
What’s going on with the noisy audio mikes yikes.
I think Tom may have been thinking of Jump Drive when reviewing RftG at #27.
Oh, I wasn't! Jump Drive is a fine game, but Race for the Galaxy is a GREAT game.
Zee’s comedy is perfect
"Troops on a map"? But "Mates on a map" was right there!
All fruit are vegetables (edible part of a plant) and a fruit is the reproductive part of the fruit, but not all vegetables are fruit.
I expect a stretch goal for the 2023 Kickstarter to be Wendy and Tom spelunking. Or maybe just a live play of SubTerra.
There is a Dominion iOS app in beta currently. seems pretty good and expansion support is planned
Soooo... what deck builder is better then Dominion?
I personally like legendary, but infinity shards is also pretty fun.
I'm really curious what the bet was that Tom lost to Mike.
The people's choice selections better reflect the games played by people who don't have a business account solely for purchasing games and who do not get free copies of games to review. The people's choice list should be called the realistic budget list.
That is exactly why it's there. But "People's Choice" is catchy.
@@nzcamel3 Also the removal of the distant market mechanism is one of the best improvements from the original.
@@DTChrisYi that's probably fair. I do prefer the interaction of player owned ports with cotton mills.
@@readilium3432 I watched part of a playthrough, but we did learn it mostly at the table. I would look for some player aids on BGG as rules as written are not great
Would 100 percent watch Zee do the app.
Does Dice Tower publish a composite rankings list?
There's a problem with the mics......oh no tom always sounds like that
My #24 is Everdell as well, Zee! Huzzah!
DEF don't need to own everything for this game [same way I feel about Dominion]
also splurged and got the set of 7 maps shipped from EU to further change up the game. very different feel playing in a restricted area
You need like someone wearing a complete black suit to sneak in and adjust microphones when there is a mic problem. Or you zoom in on someone's face or on Tom's hat and secretly adjust it. ^_^
I'd like to see Zee playing the Root app!
I am intimidated by the root app and would watch Zee learn
We are in a severely short supply, so old games, like Dominion, don’t get the priority.
We just don’t have the talent to do all the development that’s needed in all sorts of areas.
I absolutely love Cthulhu death may die!
Why does Mike gets so offended about the mic...
