Lol. Tom’s number 17, Quacks. Aldie accidentally sold me two bags of the same upgrade bits for Quacks, but 2 of the same bag for the 1st expansion. I asked BGG about the mishap. When I told Aldie he asked if I would send my extra expansion upgrade bits to Tom so he would get it for his copy and he would get us a bag of upgrade bits for the base game. We unfortunately never got a bag of upgrade bits for the base game from Aldie or BGG, but it wasn’t that much money, so… … we just bought the bits for the base again. Either way, I’m so glad I was able to help Aldie, BGG and The Dice Tower. Thanks Aldie for being so awesome. Mike, my hero brother. And glad I could help Tom 😁
Arnak will fade while dune imperium rises. Mark my words. After 3 plays of arnak, it felt very samey to me. DI is always requested and always interesting. Can't wait to see what the expansion adds.
It's in my top 3 as well, amazing game! It also has gotten me into the Dune universe, went and saw the movie twice in theaters. I am honestly surprised that Dune: Imperium did not make the top 10 in the peoples choice. Granted it's only one spot short, but with how much people love it and how it's risen so far on BGG, I thought for sure it would be in there somewhere.
@@JingleAllTheWhey Consider the top 10. In my gaming group, none of the women are interested in learning gloomhaven and TM. They play and enjoy all the other ones. I would like to see what percentage of male vs female voters have played dune imperium. I suspect it's a game that primarily appeals to men and so loses out a number of voters that have written it off because of it's theme.
An Idea for a Top 10. Most played games of 2021 While it's nice to see Top 100 games and all, I would like to see what people played the most in a given year. My top 10 games certainly don't hit the table as much as some others.
This might be the one time you could get away with a title like, "Top 100 of all time, 20-11, and number 11 will SURPRISE YOU!!!" Yes, that was a surprising number 11 for three lists!
His choices and Mike's are honestly the reason I watch. I have no reason to hear about the top kickstarters and popularity contest winners. I'm here for tips on great games I haven't heard of.
The problem I have with Zee's picks are that they are usually a unique mechanic or a twist that works well, but the other area of those games tend to suffer. I will check a game he recommends if it's a mechanic I love with a twist that sounds interesting. Otherwise it will likely be a miss.
I used to have a lot in common with Sam, specially when just starting in the hobby. But each year I find my tastes are more and more similar to Zee's and now also Mike's.
So Tom mentioned only 1 more new game on his list (and we didn't see it later this same episode). I'm going to put it right out there that I'm guessing it will be Ark Nova and will probably be pretty close to the top based on other videos I've seen.
I finally got Spirit Island recently after wondering about it for ages and so glad I did. Such a great game... however, I haven't tried it multiplayer yet and a bit scared to... I can see the spirits comboing being awesome but worry there'll be a lot of analysis paralysis esp with new people...

Zee is right. Blue Moon is an undersung gem of a game. Dr. Knizia makes some great games but this one might be my personal favorite of his many, many, MANY designs.
Adventure Tactics has become a huge sleeper hit for me. I never heard of it until recently. Once I played it, I can’t stop thinking about it. So good! I’m looking forward to Vagrantsong, as well.

I'm surprised no one mentioned one of my favorite aspects of Dune Imperium - worker placement you want to go first and get the spot you want before it could get taken, the combat you want to go last after everybody else has committed so you have as much information as possible. It's a wonderful tension to the game.

Solo Wingspan is a lesson in masochism. Oh, you want a bird card that just got placed in the bird tray at the end of your turn? The Automa's going to take it or get rid of it. It's uncanny.
Agreed. I find it is almost better with 3 people than with 4 simply because with 4, nearly every artifact is available somewhere and once you find certain combos, the game can be over very quickly before it even starts. I think it would be a better game with more expansions if for no other reason than it forces you to work with whichever cards you happen to have in the rotation that game. I do really enjoy the game, but 75% of the game happens in the initial card draft. It's certainly a fun game, but I don't think it is anywhere near a top-20 of all top.

20:23 No. Please read the reviews on the iOS store before bothering. The developer totally re-wrote it and has destroyed it. It was a solid 5 star app but now it is a 1 star only because you need to give it a star before complaining about it. And the complaints are many.
Good lists guys, though a few games are for me mediocre at best. Brass Lancashire/Birmingham is such a great game. Shame it's only on the People's Top 100.
Feast for Oden is less complex than it looks. My wife figured this out quickly and enjoys it and she's a light/medium player. It can get heavier but I'd say it's a heavier medium. The massive number of options actually make this lighter for me than some of his other games. it's easier to do what you want as long as it's not what everyone else wants.
I couldn't come up with 100 games to save my life,maybe a top 25,but I've been playing board games since the late 79's. I don't like Euro games and have never played big ones like Catan ECT. My number one game is still Star Trek Frontiers. I just can't get enough of the game. Return To Dark Tower is in my top 10 as well. Interesting that Tom and the others haven't talked about it yet. Maybe it's too new even for them. Lol.
Mike, you're not alone on Res Arcana. I don't get it. I've played it 3 times and that initial deal is so beyond frustrating. Every time one person gets an undeniably awesome deal and one person gets garbage and there's no way to fix it! Res Arcana gets no love from me. I'm going to play the draft variant before I sell, but I'm annoyed I'm playing rules that weren't presented in the rulebook to fix how terrible the original is.

Great to see Concordia that high on the list. One of my all-time favorites. In particular with the Salsa expansions added.

I agree 7 Wonders is not a GATEWAY. I tried to teach it to my inlaws. It did not go well. Too complex.

I do like Deus more then Wingspan. For me it uses the cascade mechanism in a more satisfying way.
What's with Spirit Island? I tried the app, it was ok at best, honestly kinda forgettable. There are many area control games that are more fun and better looking. Anyone please tell me what the allure is? What makes it so much better than others? Thanks.
Solo Wingspan is a lesson in masochism. Oh, you want a bird card that just got placed in the bird tray at the end of your turn? The Automa's going to take it or get rid of it. It's uncanny.

Agreed. I find it is almost better with 3 people than with 4 simply because with 4, nearly every artifact is available somewhere and once you find certain combos, the game can be over very quickly before it even starts. I think it would be a better game with more expansions if for no other reason than it forces you to work with whichever cards you happen to have in the rotation that game. I do really enjoy the game, but 75% of the game happens in the initial card draft. It's certainly a fun game, but I don't think it is anywhere near a top-20 of all top.
@@ericbess5917 Yeah and I'm not a huge fan of having resources converting to more resources being a major part of a game. That is just a personal preference though.
I love the theme of Wingspan but the solo mode must not be the best indeed for this sort of games. I'm lacking the Oceania expansion for it.

I agree. They don't feel as amazing as the geek bits but they are MUCH cheaper.

20:23 No. Please read the reviews on the iOS store before bothering. The developer totally re-wrote it and has destroyed it. It was a solid 5 star app but now it is a 1 star only because you need to give it a star before complaining about it. And the complaints are many.
Number of choices does not make Feast for Odin a heavy game. And that is all there is to this game, a large number of similar choices.
I'm pretty sure Pandemic Legacy is rated higher than Pandemic :)

Good lists guys, though a few games are for me mediocre at best. Brass Lancashire/Birmingham is such a great game. Shame it's only on the People's Top 100.
Feast for Oden is less complex than it looks. My wife figured this out quickly and enjoys it and she's a light/medium player. It can get heavier but I'd say it's a heavier medium. The massive number of options actually make this lighter for me than some of his other games. it's easier to do what you want as long as it's not what everyone else wants.

I couldn't come up with 100 games to save my life,maybe a top 25,but I've been playing board games since the late 79's. I don't like Euro games and have never played big ones like Catan ECT. My number one game is still Star Trek Frontiers. I just can't get enough of the game. Return To Dark Tower is in my top 10 as well. Interesting that Tom and the others haven't talked about it yet. Maybe it's too new even for them. Lol.

Mike, you're not alone on Res Arcana. I don't get it. I've played it 3 times and that initial deal is so beyond frustrating. Every time one person gets an undeniably awesome deal and one person gets garbage and there's no way to fix it! Res Arcana gets no love from me.
I'm going to play the draft variant before I sell, but I'm annoyed I'm playing rules that weren't presented in the rulebook to fix how terrible the original is.
