As someone who works on railways for a living seeing the long distance services is interesting. Saw The Ghan during a Gawler commissioning in January and was impressed by it's length as it entered the Dry Creek area. Keep up the great work Rory!

"The Overland" is NOT a 'commuting' train. Where did you arrive at such an inaccurate statement? Given that the service is limited to twice weekly, it's surprising that the passenger numbers are as significent as they are. We crossed "The Overland" whilst travelling aboard "Great Southern" ex Adelaide on Friday, 23 February, and were surprised by the number of passengers aboard. Nitin, who is the Service Operations Manager on "The Overland", was on holiday. He waived at his staff from "Great Southern".

At first glance, this sounds like a strange train. From a hard-to-reach terminal in Adelaide, to a freight terminal in Brisbane, where the centrepiece is Canberra, with no access to the two biggest cities in the nation despite travelling straight through them. But it looks great! Fascinating as always!
Awesome, Rory. I really enjoyed taking the trip with you. I travelled on the Indian Pacific 4 years ago and this October I am taking a tour on the Ghan from Adelaide to Alice Springs with several days of travel by coach to visit Uluru and the surrounding sites. So looking forward to it. Now, I want to do tis trip as well.
