I’ve been listening to EC & imposter’s since 1977 first American album and never stopped, if I could change just one thing it would be there sound system, it needs to be MORE Robust! Elvis is one the best singer song writers of all time.

I was so sad I didn’t get tickets to see this show Elvis! It was a brilliant concept… Same with the GramercyPark in NYC in February 2023. 10 nights with 250 songs I would love to have seen several shows!! Sadly I couldn’t fly In from London. You continue to be an inspiration! 😊 Thank you x

I saw him in '78 when it was 'The Attractions' and he was somewhat edgy, but a great show if you like that sort of thing.
'Watching the Detectives' was the song on the charts at the time.

I wish he had stuck with his own name (Declan MacManus) instead of buying a hollywood name

    • @peterowen9183

He needed a stage name because Stiff Records didn't think 'Declan MacManus' would make people sit up and take notice. So, like countless other popular musicians, he chose a stage name. But he didn't 'buy a Hollywood name'. He chose 'Costello' because it was his grandmother's maiden name (his second name being Patrick, he'd performed as DP Costello at various point in the early 1970s). And he chose 'Elvis' because everyone around him thought that would be good for a laugh - there really only being one famous Elvis at that point. And it *was* good for a laugh, and got him noticed, which is kind of the point of showbiz. Around 1986/1987 he briefly played with changing his stage name back to Declan MacManus - and added in 'Aloysius' as a tribute to Tony Hancock. So a lot of his writing credits from that period are 'McaManus', not 'Costello' (and several records were given the catalogue number DPAM001 and so on). He's also recorded as Napoleon Dynamite, The Imposter, The Costello Show, The MacManus Gang and Eamonn Singer. It's all part of the fun. 'Sticking with your own name' isn't really a thing for pop singers.

@@peterowen9183 In the context of 1977, no-one would have bought singles/LPs by 'Declan MacManus.'
